The tone of that exchange of words was one of personal superiority, haughtiness and arrogance rather than a tone of concern over what they perceive as a lack of obedience to God's law.

All in good time....all in good time but the disillusionment is a sad thing to see when it finally occurs.
I remember different ones over the years who were like this. When reality strikes, it really takes a toll on them compared to those who saw certain flaws and dealt with things realistically all along. It's sort of like a case of arrested development. They stop progressing once the magical thinking takes hold.
I remember a sister who was absolutely floored when she got into a fender bender while out in the door to door work. She had the notion that Jehovah wouldn't allow anything bad to happen to her while she was in service, especially since she was pioneering that month. This woman became a JW as an adult, is a college grad and an RN who's husband is an unbelieving Medical Dr. It was quite a blow to her to face the fact that Jehovah wasn't providing a force field around her while out in service.

I would be curious to know how many of the 263,131 baptized were raised as JW's . This would tell you how effective or ineffective the door to door work is compared to the "in house" indoctrination we have all been a part of.

Lots of JWs out at tables this morning!
by AuntBee inso, i actually stopped at two different tables that i saw.
the first was 2 elderly men - they were so sweet and open to discuss.
i brought up the topic of the divine name and why the wt inserted it into the nt with no evidence from greek manuscripts.

I mentioned that I was out preaching, contrary to what they say that no one else preaches, but she said it didn't count because it's not door to door. !!
An odd thing to hear coming from someone counting time in the ministry by sitting at a table...or was there a door attached to the talbe ?

Very heartwarming. Talent is talent and the talent here lies not only in the dogs abilities but in the trainers ability to teach the dog and choose the right music and steps to make it enjoyable.
What would we do without our pooches ???

Dressing up is all they've got....it's not about pleasing God, it's about their own image and P.R. Still, that was a nice thing for the author of that article to say however if he'd have said anything to the contrary, he'd have been dismeissed as a tool of Satan. Nice comment or not , JW's on the whole still trust that the author and his loved ones will soon be destroyed at armageddon.

Where Are They Now?
by minimus inyou know they have that question about stars that were famous back in the day and they went from child star to porn star.. my question---regarding all the witnesses you knew from years ago, where are they now?.
these "true believers"---are they still around or are they long gone by now?.
when i think back to many of the elders that i knew, many are no longer around and those that are are ready to recieve their "reward"..

My best friend growing up who I met when we were in the 1st grade (no longer a JW) made a comment to me about this. "Exwhyzee....did you ever notice how so many of the kids we grew up at the Hall who's lives are now complete train wrecks? "
This past Monday I saw a headline about one of one of the kids I grew up with who was a shining star...go getter who would go out in early morning street witnessing on Saturday mornings and come back in time for the regular meeting for service having already placed dozens of magazines. He was the kid that Moms would say "why can't you answer or give talks the way "D" does? "
Apparently D crashed his car into a moving van. He stole the van from the man driving it and took off with the man's wife still in the passenger seat. The Police were behind him in a high speed pursuit until he lost control of the vehicle. The woman was badly hurt and was hospitalized with a broken leg and lacerations. The article said the driver [D] was arrested and the report said he was rambling on incoherently about his Herion addiction.
This is one of many examples I could tell you about where they not only leave the organization but they go out and become the extreme opposite of what they used to be. JW's would tell you that this is because Satan is working harder on ex JW's. I think it's becasue born in JW are often such misfits and have little or no real coping skills on the outside and are often disillusioned or consumed with guilt and fear based on the beleifs they often still hold even after they leave. They have had only the extremly wicked ones of the world held up as an example what is typical wordly behavior and they have such a low self worth because of leaving the "truth" that they head straight for things that are not worth having. It becomes a self fullfiling prophecy.

3.5 years vs. a lifetime of going door to door.
by tootired2care indid it bug you as a witness that jesus only had to go from door to door for 3.5 years, and he was done; while he demanded that you do it for your whole life without preparing for the morrow?
i just remember a few years back reflecting on the daunting prospect of doing it my whole life if the end didn't come - "sooner rather than later".
what are your thoughts?.

There is a difference between "storing up" treasures and having the necessities on hand to live on when should one become unable to provide for oneself due to illness or old age. Having several fine houses filled with antiques might be thought of as storing up treasures. Having a retirement account available to live off of when one is 80 is another story. To me Jesus was saying not to count on these things as a solution to the big picture issues and not to get so caught up in obtaining the necessities so as to loose sight of our spiritual needs or obligations.
As usual, there are those who take something that was intended as a reminder to be balanced and they go overboard with it. Despite all the evidence around them that we need to be prepared to care for ourselves, they'd have you throw all common sense aside and have you live by the seat of your pants without a back up plan other than hoping God will solve any problem that comes along.

What kind of pics were there? Could you give me more information about that display?
There was this Kiosk or display off the waiting room where you waited to go on tour. They had a display of photos and JW memoribilia from the early days of the organization. Like a mini museum, it showed old photos of long dead little kids and adults wearing sandwich signs announcing the nearness of the King and his Kingdom being established kind of stuff. Old book bags and old literature that isn't used anymore because the information is incorrect. It had a display of the old phonographs they used to use at the doors, photos of imprisioned Witnesses and old literature etc. I had the feeling that all these people in the photographs who believed they wouldn't die are gone now and all the hardships they suffered because of the "Truth" was for nothing. If they lived today, they wouldn't have had to be so hard core about everything and many of their beliefs would have had to be "adjusted". It made me wonder depressingly if someday when we're all gone if people in the future would be gazing at the items we use today as we rearrange our lives for this organization and await armageddons arrival. There was a palpable air of an altered state of reality there at Bethel that I had forgotten about until I returned. Yes, everything was very nice...very clean etc but it was like a funeral parlor. Artificial flower arrangements, occasional tables and comfy wing backed chairs, very stuffy old lady style that sent the message that one should sit up straight and be on ones best behavior. Everyting looked like those idealistic photos in the magazines very studied and very much trying to send some underlying message or give the impression that they are a perfect organization. There was something very off putting about it. There were other groups of JW waiting for thier tour dressed in assembly clothes who were all a twitter because they thought they were in God's waiting room.
Anyway, I thought it was just me that was getting weird vibes until this sister turns around and said she wanted to get out of there. She said " I know that they work really hard here and we're supposed to be appreciative but I just don't want to spend any more time in here." Later my Wife and boys said they felt the same way.
