2014 means nothing

i know there have been many comments over the recent past about 2014 being potentially a key point in time for the wts as it's 100 years since 1914 but my view is that it means absolutely nothing.. people are people and history shows the psychological hold that organisations like the wts has just carries on captivating people.

the org survived the 1975 debacle and they will potter on for years to come regardless of things like 100 years since 1914, especially since this is something the wts are simply not talking about.

it means nothing to anyone other than people looking for something to bash the wts with.. it's not mentioned in the literature and is unlikely to be anytime soon - why the heck would the wts want to remind people of the length of time?.

Little JW children will still be told they can look forward to having a pet lion someday. 2014 will come and go without any significance to them as they weren't around when all the previous dates failed. They will continue to trust that the all adults in the limited JW circle that their parents associate with, know what they are talking about.

Teen and young adult JW's will continue to secretly hope the end doesn't come just yet because life and it's newfound freedom is still fresh and fun. They have one foot in the idealistic world of the very young, where childhood notions and adult realities haven't quite clashed yet. 2014 will come and go and will mean little to them, just as 1925 meant little to us who saw 1975 come and go in our own youth.

Older JW's , mostly out of habit, will still carry the hope that the end will come before they die. Even though they've spent decades convincing themselves it will happen, on some level they've known all along it may well be just a fantasy. At this point in their lives, they are too tired to care or change. 2014 will come and go but they'll ignore the voice in their head that is telling them they may have been duped. To some this may be a relief since they no longer have the energy anymore to keep up the urgency of the times routine. Facing this reality is not something they can easily walk up to and wrestle to the ground. They'll continue on as they have and rationalize it all by saying "oh well, at least it was a good way to live if nothing else".

...sneaking into my hospital while i'm there and leaving magazines in all my waiting rooms?.

it's like they have predator suits or something.

pesky boogers.. by the way, if the person or persons who are doing this ever read on this site please know that i pick them up within 30 minutes of your leaving them.. .

It could be someone who works of volunteers at the hospital that sort of slips the magazines out of their pocket while going about their normal routine. Could be a custodian who has access to the whole place and a cart to stash the literature in.

Along with the Sister Paine in the rear legend / joke, there was the legend / story about the "brother" saying a concluding prayer at a meeting and asking Jehoober to forgive our "falling shorts".

We DID have a Sister Payne, in our Confregation and every Pain/Payne remark possible, was made including the Payne in the rear joke. in fact, she "Payne-stakingly" made a point of not sitting in the back of the hall for that reason.

We've all heard the one where supposedly after the Sunday talk the Chairman said " Thank you for that fine talk Brother Jones...and now while the microphones are being set up, we'll have a five minute intercourse" (he mixed discourse and intermission together and came up with intercourse)

I've told the story of how my Mother used to be the Piano player at our Hall. For that reason we always had to be to the meeting on time. One time she was in such a rush to get dressed that she put her coat on right over her slip. She dashed up to the front of the Hall as soon as we walked in and it wasn't until she had her coat part way off that she realized she wasn't wearing a dress. We never let her live this one down.

The story about the smurff storming out of the Kingdom Hall on his own always made me wonder how he was able to get the door open by himself. Maybe the attendant turned the knob or pushed the bar for his since he was only a few inches tall.

I heard one tale of a burglar who broke into a home, only to have the owner come home, he hid under the bed and so heard her read the bible. He escaped, taking her bible with him. Eventually he starts a study and gets baptized! I can't believe I was gullible enough to believe that one.

And as if that wasn't enough, he hears her say her nightly prayers and steals the bible and sneaks out when she's asleep. He studies, gets baptized and recognizes the woman at a District Assembly and identifies himself to her and returns the stolen Bible. Instead of freaking out, the woman embraces him as she would a brother and the whole audience breaks into tearful applause.

Another Pet Peeve About District Conventions

well,i haven't been to a convention since i started posting here.

but,since my family is attending one soon,i was having flashbacks.. one of the many things that would irritate me would be running into old, so-called friends.

these are ones that while in the same congregation we were close,but then,once they moved,nothing.. and it's usually them just still living five minutes away,but since they go to another hall and can't be bothered now.

I have never felt more lonely that sitting by myself through a convention. It was good though, because I started to see the religion for what it was.

You find out what you are made of or what is really important to you when you are alone in a crowd. One of the hardest things for some people to do is to sit by themselves in a restaurant or go to a movie alone. Some adults have never done this. I think if every JW attended an entire assembly alone in a place where they knew no one, they wouldn't be distracted by the social niceties and would pay more attention to what is really being said. They'd be able to examine their true motives for being part of this religion and determine if they are part of it based on the merit of it's doctrines and teachings or because they are going along with the peer group they happened to be part of. If you are sitting in a auditorium full of strangers you are able to be far more objective about the program than you are when you are surrounded by individuals you know well and have social or emotional bonds with. There is a group mentality at assemblies that is nice in a way but when thousands of people are clapping their hands in approval of something that was just said but three quarters of them weren't even listening, it's a little scary.

they don't really want to end their days with the constant drudgery of the jw life still going on, they want something different, but must "wait on jehovah".

sigh.. i wonder if this is a small opportunity for us to sow some small, niggling doubt, why not ask, when they spew out the "it is soooo close" nonsense:.

I'd rather live this life to the full than waste time wishin' , and waitin' on another Life is a gift. It's foolish not to appreciate this one then look for another

Spending the life you were given waiting for the New System to arrive is basically like keeping your eyes shut through a movie you really wanted to see, in the hopes that the Theatre Manager will give you your money back at the end.

they don't really want to end their days with the constant drudgery of the jw life still going on, they want something different, but must "wait on jehovah".

sigh.. i wonder if this is a small opportunity for us to sow some small, niggling doubt, why not ask, when they spew out the "it is soooo close" nonsense:.

My wife's Uncle is in his high 70's, I've known him for decades. A nice guy (elder) but he always sounds so exhausted by life. You can never get through a conversation with him without him saying at least once in a sad tone "Boy....we sure do need the new system, don't we ? I tell ya, it can't be much longer now" Sometimes we time him to see how long it takes for him to utter this montra. I usually bite my tounge but sometimes I want to say, "but what ever will you have to talk about " or "Either we need the new system or maybe we need to not expect life to be so perfect".

JW Grammar is...

*we are all from different cultural and educational backgrounds, we all experience different circumstances in life, and i don't mean to offend anyone on this forum in any way.*.

with that said here are my observations, and i want to know what you have observed.. in my experience i have noticed a trend: zealous witnessestend to exhibit the worst grammar when compared to non-witnesses!.

i want you to think back, or check it out for yourself if you haven't noticed it.. on social networks: compare comments on anything by jws (especially the uber-zealous ones) with those of your atheist or other religiously affiliated friends.

I have to chuckle all these posts about poor grammer that contain gramatical, punctuation, typing and spelling errors.

(Including some of my own. LOL) On another note, I once heard a brother give a talk where he referred to the arrogant religious leaders of Jesus day as having a certain self sat-is-fa-cation about themselves. This totally blew his credibility.

i made an effort to plow thru the latest bullsh*t from the wts in regard to the faithful slave, etc.

i must admit that, their latest set of interpretations make more sense than formerly.

they seem to have done away with 4-6 different 'comings' of jesus and they pretty much stuck everything in the future, so they are off the hook in the present.

Maybe Fred Franz was one of those millions then living who would never die..
