How many would still be in if.....

i always wondered.......how many would still be in if there was no fear of being shunned?

i really believe the very few of active witnesses believe that the big "a" is right around the corner.

but, the fear of losing family and friends.......very powerful to keep people in line.

Wish I could be like and do that Flipper! Well done! My problem is my mom.....she's older and fragile (bad heart). To see me walk away from it, i have no idea what that would do to her....

What if your Mom is thinking the same thing? "Oh...It would just destroy Flg8ter if he/she knew that I think this whole religion is B.S."

I wonder how many JW's are staying "IN" for the sake of someone else and that someone else is staying "IN" for the same reason ?

There are 7million JW's but if each of them know as many people as I do, who have come and gone out of the religion, there must be ten times their current 7 million. Each one has his or her own story to tell and the repercussions of their collective experiences must be astounding. Until recent years, people just left and were never heard from again. They didn't get to tell their story and that's how the whole thing survived. Times are different now with the Internet and hopefully if people want to leave, they will do so knowing they aren't the only ones out there.

Got Accosted by 2 JW Women While Pumping Gas Yesterday - Weird

absolutely weird.

minding my own business while pumping gas - this 60 year old short jw lady with fluffed bun styled 60's hair and her 30 year old attractive 5 ' 10 inch jw lady partner came straight up to me as i'm pumping.

they picked the wrong hombre .

This caused the 60 year old lady to get flustered at me and she asked me, " what is your motive for telling us this ? Are you trying to turn us against the elders ?

She , a complete stranger, walks up to you in a public place and out of the blue expects you to tell her who you think " control's the world". She was fully expecting to tell you what's what and who's who, but had the tables turned so instead of her being the authority in the conversation, you were. Then she wants to know if you are trying to turn her against the Elders. Ha ! Do they even expect to sensor the public as well as their own members ? This kind of thing really rocks their world and probably shook her up for the rest of the day. I'll bet the younger one went home and Googled "Candace Conti". Hopefully she will wonder why the organization she supports, hadn't told her about this landmark case. Hardly any JW's know about it.

Way to Go Flipper.

Sorry to interupt this post.

I'm unable to post a new topic for some reason. The "New Topic" button hasn't been showing up on my side of things for some time. I've tried logging onto the site using Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and have tried accessing it on other computers. I can log in and post comments but can't seem to find the "New Topic" button and I have so many facinating things to talk about (not) LOL ! . Simon hasn't responded to my email or my private message to him about this. Is anyone else having trouble with this or have I maybe been blocked for some reason?

Where Do You NOW Think Wickedness Comes From? The Devil or... ?

i think wickedness comes from evil people.. there are many people in between the two extremes of, overly good people and overly evil persons.. i do not believe in a devil.. i think he is a concept dreampt up by evil ones to blame bad behavior, as a red herring, on anyone but themselves.. the watchtower makes up attrocious lies, brow beats good people not to better themselves,.

all the while, they are building their own empire.. they say, do not isiolate yourself.

it is not good for you.. but if you don't agree with them and their current teachings, you will be shunned, disfellowshipped.. that can and does, have earth shattering results.. so many things, i was taught as a born in, are now considered apostate teachings.

Faders shunned now?

hi all so my family had their c.a.

last weekend and my mother dropped this one on me, she'll now be treating me as a df'd person per info she received from a talk at the assembly.

apparently a fader should be treated as "bad association" given the fact they up and left the holy "truth" to splash around in vomit.. .

JW's always pick up and run with any information regarding punishment. Ask them an indepth Bible question....you'll usually get a vague answer or blank stare. Ask them about anything to do with Watchtower policies regarding any kind of punishment, they'll know all about it.

Shunning is the only power JW's are allowed....especially for the sisters.

If I were you I'd let it fade....in a few weeks it'll probably be business as usual if you don't make them draw a line in the sand about it, now.

How Do I Explain To My TalkTherapist That JW's Believe They Will Never Die?

i know for us exjw's that have awakened from this religion, it seems incredulous that we ever.

could have believed we were going to live forever and never die.. not just never die, but never die, like i was raised to believe with.

the millions now living will never die, garbage.. i said that to my highly educated professional therapist last week.. her eyes got big, and she said gently as to a child, "loislane, we are all going to die".. yes, i know that now, but that is not what my religion taught and i believed, for 60 years.. any thoughts on how i explain this lunacy to her?.

There will be no more death’ [a] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

The bad thing is not so much that God planned to eliminate death, but that it was going to happen any day now and there was no need to plan for a future in this world and that if you didn't follow their direction, everyone you know will turn against you and he will kill you and in many of our cases, we'd break our Mother's heart if we ever left the organization or expressed any doubt.

2014 Event

i know its a year away but i wanted to inquire about the hundred year anniversary of 1914. it would be amazing to have a world wide event reguarding all exjws.

i am nowhere near capable of putting this together but i'd like to propose the largest assembly of exjws ever on october 1st 2014. can it be done?

am i the first to bring this up?

Wouldn't it be something if the tens of thousands of former JW's out there showed up at a single District assembly in a major city? They'd outnumber the regular attendees. They could, at a prearranged time, stand up and chant over and over STAY ALIVE TILL 75 or THIS RELIGION IS A SNARE AND A RACKET. Maybe they could even storm the stage and gave a stirring TTAT talk.

Or maybe it would be easier to hire a plane to skywrite above Bethel... THE 1914 GENERATION DIED...SO WHAT HAPPENED ?? They'd probably think it was the fulfillment of the propehcy in Luke 21:11 about "fearfull signs and great sights from the heavens".

Do you detect an underlying sadness ?

whenever i talk to jw's, and even in some of the jw official videos, i detect a definite vibe of sadness coming off these people.. i am very sensitive to "atmospheres" and to peoples emotional state, you wouldn't think so, because more often than not i do not react to what i detect, i just let people get on with it.. but i do get this feeling that they are sad, probably because very, very, very deep down they realise that it is all false, maybe ?.

The constant harping on JW's are exposed to that details how bad things are compared to how good things could be or will be some day, causes (IMO) a condition called Weltschmerz . Weltschmertz is the depression that arises from comparing the world as it is, to a hypothetical idealized world that one envisions in thier own mind. The steady diet of talks, literature and meetings where the flaws in ones current existence are highlighted and then compared to an existence of idealized perfection that is never attained or is repeatedly postponed, is bound to foster an atmosphere of discontent and rather than one of gratitude and appreciation of what one really has. If you want to see this on a large scale, spend a little time at Bethel and notice the altered state the residents there are in, especially the long time ones. It's certainly not what you'd expect to see at the world headquarers of God's happy people.
