My other half (who is not "awake", btw), looked at the schedule, saw who was delivering this part and informed me we would not be attending the meeting that week because of it.

so i was lurking on jwtalk after trying to read the thread on there about the broadcast about the conti case...and holy moly there are some bat ish crazy talk on that site!
they also blocked the thread about the broadcast, lol!

hey people, .
i am soon going into a kh for the first time and i could use some advice around etiquette etc.
i know next to nothing besides the fundamental beliefs of jws, i personally dont believe in any religion, and that stance isnt ever going to change, however i don't want to come across as rude or disrespectful.
Expect something along these lines:
if the witnesses have the truth and have been going to meetings for many years and every week they learn how to be effective in the ministry and learn about the bible on sundays and every week have a family worship night, why are they afraid to talk to anyone who doesn't agree with them or question their beliefs?
if they have the truth then nothing can refute it.
the truth is the truth.
So JWs do all that supposed study, and they can't defend the Bible and their theology.
That's one of the reasons the GB is so afraid of "higher education".
Take someone who has spend 18 years of his or her life-- spending 6+ hours a week listening to Bible instruction at the KH, plus Circuit Assemblies, plus Regional Conventions, plus personal study, plus Family Worship, plus field service-- all that time, all that "reasoning", all that indoctrination and building of faith.
Take that person and put them into one "Intro to Philosophy 101" their Freshman year in a university. It's a class that meets 2-3 week, for 50 minutes, for a total of 12 weeks. By the end of the semester (less than 36 hours of total class time) and suddenly 18 years of all that JW instruction goes out the window.
36 hours vs. 18 years...and the 36 hours wins most of the time. (Luke 6:49) Wonder why.
wbt$ gb rock star popes and their fancy watches... .. are "extremely expensive" rolex watches being forced on the wbt$ rock star popes?!!...
are the watches just rolex "knock offs" so the wbt$ gb rock star popes only "appear wealthy"?!...
.. geoffrey jackson.
I'd be awfully surprised if any of those watches had a retail price of over $500. Even if they were gifts, I think that they would be non-luxury brands with a luxury look. The GB isn't that stupid that they would open themselves up to criticism by wearing some luxury brand as well known as Rolex (or similar).
What is hysterical to me, is that as much as the WTS loves to bash educated, white collar executive jobs, many of them clearly yearn to project that image to the outside world (and to boost their own egos). Instead of wearing a $10,000 Rolex or $3,000 custom suit, they wear flashy Michael Kors watch they got on sale for $109 and the Chaps by Ralph Lauren suit they got on sale for $199, both at Marshalls/T.J. Maxx/Kohls.
Even their pocket handkerchiefs betray them. Roam the halls and conference rooms of any Fortune 500 company, and you'll see some nice linen pocket squares or the occasional Hermes silk pocket square-- not some 1990s Men's Wearhouse version like most of the GB wear.

What are the Witnesses Afraid Of ?
Critical thinking skills.

There's another topic there in a members-only folder titled "sad abuse news". Is that on the same topic? More of the same there?
That is a thread from 2014 talking about the Jose Lopez case...another $13.5 million judgement:
The responses are an expected combination of sympathy for the victim, accusations that Satan/apostates are out to smear Jehovah's and the organization's name, questions as to whether the WTS's policies are adequate, and blatant "blind faith" defenses of any-and-all things WTS.

How many of you are members on jwtalk?
BTW,
If anyone can post specific comments on JWtalk, please do so. It needs to be exposed, it's a piece of the puzzle.

I'm a member who reviews it for laughs on a regular basis. After they moved they thread to the Members Only area, I posted the first two pages of posts here, but Simon pulled it down, with the reason that the intent of this site isn't to ridicule members of another. It's his site, so I respect his decision.
I've actually posted on this particular jwtalk thread a number of times...heehee... (sprinkling an adequate amount of Kool Aid on it to avoid the moderators' wrath), however that thread has gone completely bananas with members really going after each other, apostates (obviously), Conti, and even the WTS policies. I can't believe the moderators haven't locked that thread up yet.

reading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?
i bet its very minimal.
naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.
If the carts are found to really not be that effective in the end, why on earth would they stop.
Heck, if effectiveness was the measuring stick, they would have stopped door-to-door 20 years ago.

In 1969 there was one baptism for every 1,983 hours of preaching. During the 1980s it had risen to 3,000 hours. From 1990 to 2011 the number of hours preaching required per baptism increased from 3000 to 6000, an increase of 100%.
More significant is the number of hours required for an additional publisher. Due to the large increase in Witnesses leaving the religion, the number of hours preaching required for an additional publisher doubled from 4,000 in the early 1990's to over 8,000 in 2000. The difference between 4000 hours in 1995 and 12,000 in 2014 is a change of 300% in just 20 years.
