I proposed that same question to my elder dad one time when we were discussing all the child abuse lawsuits being faced by the Society. I asked him "Would you call the authorities if a child in the hall was being abused?" His response: "Only if the Legal Dept. told me I should, yes." "Would you call the authorities if you discovered the little girl next door was being abused by her father?" His response: "Of course!!!" CD was kicking in big time. -

Another case of information control!
by username ini decided to have a look at jwtalk to see if there might be any news on the australian royal commission investigation into child abuse.
there was a message posted regarding the news.
another case of jws not being able to handle bad news against the mother ship!.

Not sure what was posted there originally, or on what part of that site, but the Australian inquiry discussion is now in an existing "child abuse" thread in the "Alt News" part of the forum, which is behind the log-in.
This matches up with previous protocol on the site, where negative news stories regarding JWs (especially child abuse) are moved by the mods from a public part of the site to behind the log-in.
Can't have the public seeing negative factual information about JWs!!

done4good14 hours agoI have to say, I work in NYC and have yet to see one of these things.
I also have not even seen JW in my neighborhood in NJ in several years.
d4gThey're usually parked outside the 42nd St./7th Ave. subway entrance in Times Sq across from Walgreen's. I've also seen them in Port Authority bus terminal pretty frequently.

Angelo Catanzaro
by Room 215 ini recently heard angelo catanzaro, a rather prominent figure in the organization .. a long-time district overseer and a favorite of knorr's, died recently.
there was some indication that he and his wife figured out ttatt in their latter years and turned "apostate"... .
does anyone out there know what happened to them?

I thought I read a few years ago that Angelo also learned the TTATT. Don't know where I read that though.
For what it's worth, this thread from 5 years ago mentions Catanzaro giving the opening prayer at the 2010 AM:
Hmmm...pretty sure I had him as a DO when I was very young.
Out of curiosity, what is leading you to say he may have learned TTATT? If so, it must have been very recently based on BoC's reference to his role at the 2010 AM.

Band Green Day and JWs
by hardtobeme ina few years ago i heard of a story about two jw's being at a green day concert.
i think that the witnesses were bethelites.
the person that told me that story said that the band was about to play but they couldn't.

Random fact: The band Zebrahead used to tour with and open for Green Day. The lead singer of Zebrahead was raised JW. -

All quiet on the western front
by campaign of hate inrecently it seems very quiet in jw land.. jw broadcasting has been in full swing for months now, nobody bats an eye lid at that anymore.. so the question is, what is next?
the next organisation change, the next doctrine change.
it seems like this is the quiet before the storm.. the way things are going, it's almost like they try and one up their last change, things in jw land get that bit more crazy every year.. i'm hedging my bets toward a monthly public talk broadcast straight from new york.

I think the next Nulite will be them proclaiming the great tribulation has begun, so expect imminent persecution.
In reality they will just replace the overused "last days' with "great tribulation" to get people active and productive.I agree. It's a win-win for them:
1. The Great Tribulation is of an indeterminate length. Therefore, they could milk this for DECADES.
2. They don't have show any actual proof. Something along the lines of: "Only Jehovah's people were able discern that Jesus began ruling in 1914, even when world events made it obvious. As before, Satan has 'blinded the minds of the unbelievers'. The world does not yet recognize that its governments have already turned on Babylon the Great-- stripped her of the power and its wealth she once enjoyed. Her waters are indeed 'drying up'. Through their rhetoric, the nations declare 'peace and security', while the reality is anything but. Therefore it is with great confidence we can declare that we, as Jehovah's named people, are in fact living in the time period foretold in Revelation as the 'Great Tribulation!'"
3. Such a grand revelation that "the Great Tribulation has in fact begun" would send the vast majority of J-dubs into a frothing-at-the-mouth frenzy. Conventions and assemblies for years following the announcement would be re-framed around the GT having already begun, and therefore we are that much closer to the Big A.
There would be zero downside for them.

Education Level of GB
by The_Doctor10 inafter seeing so many topics about the stupidity of the gb, just got me wondering, anyone know the secular education levels of the gb?
are they high school level religious zealots or are they college educated manipulators?

I seem to remember Herd telling a story about going to college after he got out of the military (in Michigan, I think?). Even if he did, I'd be surprised if that made it into his printed life story in the WT. -

Reliable source - new round of US Bethel layoffs coming soon
by sir82 inwas talking to an ex-bethelite who is still very well-connected to those in the ivory tower.. he says that there will soon be a(nother) large number of us bethelites who will be "reassigned to the field" as pioneers and special pioneers.. he did not give his source, but he is pretty reliable.
incidentally, he was "reassigned to the field" in the last big purge about 7 years ago.. i imagine those so reassigned would be pretty teed off.
let go just before the golden lakeshore palace was completed..

...and he rides around in a car 6 hours a day with middle aged women who blather on about menopause or guacamole recipes or some such.
Funniest thing I've read all day!

Comparing JWs to Jews
by CalebInFloroda insome have asked how my views and convictions have changed over the past 15 years or so after leaving the watchtower behind to return to my familys roots and embrace judaism.
the best way to explain things is to allow both the religion of the watchtower and my life as a jew today to stand side-by-side for comparison.
while i cant guarantee this will help prove to others that the jehovahs witnesses are truly a crazy religious group, i am sure it will prove to most that jews probably are, and are quite aware of it.

The only difference between Jws and Jews , is, .........wait for it, .........the " e ".
I was once told by a Jewish friend that being a JW is almost as cool as being a Jew...we are only missing the "e" for "exciting".

An elder once asked me: "Why is the Truth like a crescent wrench?" Confused, I replied "Huh, what do you mean?"
His answer: "Because it fits all the nuts."
