Therefore it's fair to say that their statement "[t]he economic landscape continues to deteriorate for most..." is dishonest and misleading.

2. I laugh at the blatant logic-fail here:

"The gifts of the early Christians were voluntary...'not...under compulsion'...BUTTTTT.... Congregations have resolved to send a specific amount to support Kingdom Hall and Assembly Hall construction". I'm pretty sure a congregation passing a resolution by vote counts as compulsion since it forces the hall to write a certain sized check to WT each month.

3. "Congregations have resolved to send a specific amount to support Kingdom Hall and Assembly Hall construction worldwide each month, and some (emphasis mine) have resolved to send an additional monthly amount to the worldwide work."

The are slowly but surely building the case to support the a future-state where ALL congregations must commit to a certain dollar figure in donations each month for the worldwide work, based on a per publisher "recommended" amount. In other words a guaranteed income stream WT can count on each month.

i was a jw from infancy.

we had a melting pot type of congregation.

i grew up with all types of witnesses , all with different backgrounds.

I never really saw signs of overt racism in the congregation I grew up. Granted I lived in an area with lots of universities and diversity, so that could help.

The only thing that could qualify was during the big annual Spring and Fall cleanups at the KH. The members of the Spanish congregation would show up to help in droves, which sounds good except that most of them were unfamiliar with even the most basic landscaping and simple construction and maintenance tasks (e.g. raking out garden beds, mowing the grass, painting, etc.)

Most in the English congregation chalked it up to the fact that most of the Spanish congregation was rather poor, and almost none were homeowners so they didn't grow up doing yard work and working on their own homes.

Frankly it made everyone's job a little harder because the Spanish friends would struggle through the assigned tasks rather poorly, necessitating the friends from the English hall having to closely supervise, coach, and re-do much of the work. There was a measure of unspoken resentment on both sides, I think.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed that they've recently started referring to their Warwick exhibits as a "museum"?

I wonder if there are longer-term plans to build a separate building at Warwick that is a standalone "Bible Museum". Just imagine the tour groups flocking to that! A purpose-built structure that houses exhibits and special events, maybe even with event space that can be used for special events (e.g. Annual Meeting festivities), or maybe even a new fancy theater / auditorium to host special events. "Spare no expense!"

1934 Yearbook hard to find

Yes, the Declaration of the Facts from Rutherford to the German government/Hitler letter was published in the 1934 Yearbook.

Do you think that this ever factored into why the WT has never caved on the whole 587/607 BCE issue?

After all, if they followed the 587 date, it would buy them an extra 20 years, moving 1914 to 1934. And given the number of historical events that occurred in 1934 (basically Hitler becoming "Hitler" and starting his reign of terror, Soviets joined League of Nations, etc.), they'd easily make the argument that it was because Satan and the demons were cast down that year and started the events leading to the largest and deadliest war the world has ever seen.

If what the WT was doing in 1934 was suddenly put under a magnifying glass as organizationally significant, perhaps these views on Hitler might not look too good.

Anyone have someone move in and take over the congergation?

i have been in two congregations where someone moved in from the big city and took over with the attitude of the northerners when they go south, i come from where they do it right.

like bulls in china shops they remove people and do the house cleaning like the political org cult it is.

He soon found out that our Congregation had scant regard for the " Society", and thought Circuit Overseers were a joke to be endured until they moved on somewhere else.

That reminds me of a CO from the 80's...David Suitor (sp?). Rumor has it, he would carry his letter of appointment as CO in his briefcase. During his Elders Meeting, if any elder challenged him on something, he'd just reach into his briefcase, stop the brother and direct said brother to read his letter of appointment aloud to everyone in the room. Alpha move, right there.

Museums growing at the branches especially Warwick

i am not sure if this has been discussed but last night mid week meeting about organisational accomplishments really got my goat as the example of the temple was used.

people contributed to the building of the jewish temple and now the museum and bethel in warwick.

this supposed .be evidence of god s guidance.

They could always install an exhibit called "The Light Gets Brighter!"

The physical setup of the exhibit would be a long hallway you walk through. Along your walk you pass various displays showing how various teaching have changed. At the beginning you'd pass a pretty Christmas tree, a staged birthday party, etc...as your walk down the hallway progresses you pass other scenes...refusing vaccines, a dying child refusing a blood transfusion, "Stay Alive 'Til '75!" slogans, a poster of the famous WT cover from the '80s "1914 The Generation That Will Not Pass Away". To ensure the full concept and mood is captured, the lighting will continue to dim, then brighten; dim, then brighten. And of course to ensure peoples' shoes do not damage the floors, they'll have you wear special WT-branded flip flops as you walk through. (Get it...flip flops?)

I also chuckle a little bit at these types of videos.

How often do the WT lawyer claim in court cases that the GB is only an ecclesiastical body and that they have no authority over the management and decisions made by the WT's various legal entities? These types of videos seem to tell a different story.

Anybody else see KH sales lagging?

there is a large kh in my area, a nice neighbourhood, that has been up for sale for well over a year now.

the old cong that used to go there travels miles to go to their reassigned hall.

i swing by the old one now and then to see if anyone has bought it.

As other posters have referenced, the size, layout, and semi-residential style of most KHs limit the pool of buyers. In my experience, they usually end up being sold to either another church, or to a day-care center or a medical office. In general, though, commercial property takes much longer to find a buyer than residential.

I'm sure that came into play when they came up with the new design a few years ago. The typical "retail box store" design would appeal to a much broader set of potential buyers.
