The problem is that the GB thinks that sexual preference is like a switch that can be turned off. It's not a choice!

Recent Research on Gay JWs
by laverite inthere an interesting academic article that came out in 2010 on gay jws.
it's based on empirical, qualitative research from the perspective of the sociology of religion.. i'm posting the article citation and abstract below.
i can't post the article because of copyright restrictions, obviously.

The WT Headship Principle (tm): Did you ever REALLY buy it?
by Open mind ini believed that god was the big boss and his first-line supervisor was jesus.. .
everything beyond that got a bit shaky for me throughout my jw life.. .
but this bit, i never bought into for even an instant: the husband is the head of the wife.. .

Even as a man I never agreed with the headship principle. It is a partnership, is it not? In a partnership, both parties should be equal.

The Danger of Credulous Research of Jehovah's Witnesses on the Internet
by Spade inhttp://www.watchtower21.org/2011/02/danger-of-naive-and-credulous-research.html.
it's been my experience so far, that anything a person wants to find out about jehovahs witnesses, they can find out from jehovahs witnesses.
any and all information ever published by jehovah witnesses is accessible to all.

Spade, if you are not a JW, why are you defending them? What exactly is your motivation, besides to troll? If the JW's are so great and so right, why aren't you one? I would think it would make you sort of a hypocrite to come here and call out people who aren't practicing JW's when you aren't willing to be one yourself.

Movies you want to see when they come out
by Lady Lee inthey aren't even made yet but the talk is there.
hobbits or whatever it will be called - prequel to lord of the rings.
1 or possibly 2 more bourne movies.
-
MrFreeze
Looking forward to The Hobbit. Best part of those LOTR movies is they only use CGI when absolutely necessary. Great use of costume design. I read the books before the movies came out and I was very pleased with how they came across. I imagine The Hobbit will be quite good as well.
New X-Men movie coming out. Origin story of Magneto it seems. I didn't care for Wolverine: Origins so we shall have to see.
Apollo 18. Nobody seems to know anything about it but a movie shrouded in mystery certainly piques my interest.
There's supposed to be a Freddie Mercury biopic coming out. He's one of my favorite people ever so I am stoked for that.

IS THE GOVERNING BODY NOW THE FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE?
by Vanderhoven7 in.
i know the anointed never get consulted.
but is it true that the governing body has modified the definition of the faithful and discreet slave to exclusively apply to themselves and to not include the thousands of other anointed..

God appointed them yet by their own admission they are not inspired by God. Why listen to them then?

Is it normal to quote without naming the source like WT does?
by InterestedOne ini am noticing here and there that the wt literature will say things like "one bible dictionary says ..." or "one scholar says ..." and then proceed with a quotation.
my immediate reaction is to ask myself why they didn't provide the specific source of the quote - author, publication, page #, etc.
so i am wondering, do other magazines do this?
-
MrFreeze
In school you must ALWAYS cite your sources, no matter how much you quote. Then again the WT doesn't believe in schooling.

The Pressure Is On to Pioneer in April
by dontplaceliterature ini know there have already been a couple of threads posted about this, but i thought it made since to bring it up again.
i hadn't really heard any "oh my what a blessing, are you pioneering in april?
" talk right after the big announcement last month.
-
MrFreeze
I can only imagine how they are playing it up in my old hall. They usually get a ton of people to pioneer anyway by guilting them into it. 20 less hours to get. I can just picture the local needs talk. "Have you turned in your slip? If not, what's your freaking problem?" They may not put it like that but they'll use other words to say the same thing.
