i was on a flight working the beverage cart when i spied with my little eyes two women reading wt material.

i served them and said they looked like jehovah's witnesses.

they smiled and asked if i was a witness and i said nooooooooo.

I wouldn't know since I don't go to the meetings anymore but I can tell you how they are doing. Look at the news, they are doing just as well as everyone else.

My article on Russia's ban of JW's

i am a columinst for cornell university's "the diplomacist".

i recently wrote an article on the various troubles jehovah's witnesses are facing in russia.

i try to make the point that, even if you do not support the witnesses (and most don't) you should support freedom of thought, expression and religion.. if you are interested in checking it out, here it is: "snuffing out religious freedom in russia".

As much as I hate, hate, hate the WTBTS, I cannot condone the banning of them simply because if its okay to ban JW's, where do our freedoms end? Yeah, it would be great if the WT were eliminated but lets hope and pray its eliminated without violating any freedoms.

How many commandments did Jesus give? Love God and love your neighbor. Can anybody think of any others? Why doe shte WT insist on rules rules rules. I swear the WT has more rules than the Mosaic Law covenant + the burdens the Pharisees put on. Not only that, sometimes it seems the WT is even more rigid and unforgiving!

the reason i asked this is because i'm going to the funeral of a man who wasn't a jw.

my mother-in-law has lived in the same neighborhood as him for years and knows his wife.

i asked her if she was going attend the funeral service.

Frankly I'm no longer a JW and I'm still embarassed to tell people that I used to be! Trust me, if JW's never had to say they are JW's, they would avoid the subject at all cost. I mean c'mon, look how JW's react when they come to your door and you ask them who they are? They go out of their way to avoid saying they are a JW, and that is while engaging in an activity that is supposed to identify them as a JW!
