  JW strangers say mean things to you at assemblies?

  jw's can be rotten, but what about the "brutally honest" jw strangers at assemblies?

  i have had some issues with the general meaness jw's are to people that they do not even know, and are jw's.. example 1: i was maybe 13 years old and i was a fast developer, i had big boobs basically.

  well a dress i had was really nice...my parents would not have let me wear something that was not apprepriate for me, but i guess the dress was low (i didn't think so) and when i was in the bathroom at the assembly at the mirror, a woman just came up to me and was like "you are showing all the assets you have to offer" or something to that effect.

  Well...this wasn't said, rather done.

  My Mother had a dear sister bang her on the head deliberately with her handbag at an assembly. The sister was going past in front of her (and the others seated there) and "accidently deliberately" let her bag hit my mother on the head. My mother said she thought she imagined it - but another sister from our congregation who witnessed the incident said to her later "I cannot believe a sister would do that (referring to the handbag incident)". I cant remember the rest of the story, ie if something happened that made the sister annoyed or angry... but it was a really weird thing to happen at an assembly.

  now some people have their names involved with makes sense and so forth.

  Awkward position with family in relation to the truth

  my mum (who's never been a witness) just phoned me up.

  she says my aunt (my mum's sister) wants to get back into the truth.

  my aunt stopped going to meetings a couple of years ago.

  I don't understand why it has to be secret (your feelings about JW) when you said your Mum for example was never a JW. Sure it might feel a little weird taking a different stance on JW, but your Aunt may find what you have to share quite freeing.

  Did you ever try any of the awkward, and somewhat creepy suggestions in the KM for Informal Witnessing?

  the august km, has an article entitled, "you can witness informally!

  " this week's service meeting will cover half of the 13 questions.

  next week, congregations will finish the article along with a box full of several experiences with successful results from informal witnessing.

  Jehovah's Witnesses are depressing

  learning the truth about my faith as a jw (that it is wrong) actually has resulted in me having a more positive outlook on life, postive about today even though it has its problems.. but today, speaking with close jw friends (strong witnesses at that), i find myself hearing nothing but depressed thoughts.

  when everything you talk about as a witness is how terrible the world is but soon (for over 100 years) the "new system" will be here ... just hang on ... is it any wonder so many jw's are on anti-depressants?.

  it is depressing being surrounded by depressed people.. .

  Couldn't agree more... The realization that every conversation I ever had (with Jws) was not "uplifting" (to borrow a WTism) was a catalyst to my exit... I just couldn't take the negativity anymore!!

  I feel so sorry for JWs trapped inside the misery and they don't even realize it.

  me: are you trying to raise money?.

  lads: yeah for charity.

  I was a born in... but I experienced this too – because talking about your true thoughts is repressed it seems like everyone else gets it and something is wrong with you not the message. Peer pressure in the direction of becoming a JW (heavy JW association, and why do you think they want you to invite studies to the meeting asap?). I know of one JW that came in from the world and her adult daughter told me that she (her mother) felt like she needed "to join the club" to be fully accepted. The other thing is many who join the JWs from the outside are a bit odd, mental problems, just gone through a major life event (death/disaster) or just are worn down and tired from life and the JWs just seem oh so nice...(lovebombing)

  Manipulative, deceptive recruiting and peer pressure – do not underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!!!

  (The "recruit" is not stupid... the JWs in large numbers have the power to sway a smart person into thinking that the JWs are right – despite the actual "beliefs" being too far fetched to even have a shred of credibility)

  People Who Refuse to Tip at Restaurants are Embarrassing!

  egg and i were treated out to dinner three times last weekend by out of state visiting relatives.

  just found out last night that they don't believe in tipping, at all!

  we suggested the places to eat and frequent those places ourselves.

  As I have said I was not brought up in tipping culture but...

  For you Brits...I am confused. I have experienced "forced tipping" in the UK just last year! I was shocked as I had no idea that went on over there. First incident was not fine dinning, just a Mexican restaurant. The meal was much pricer than I like paying for average mexican food the service average to sub-par... And then the bill came out with an additional 10% - 15% (can't remember exactly) added on to the bill as a service charge. My English friend explained it was just a tip and pretty standard. I paid it following the "when in rome" thing, but it left a bad taste especially when combined with the two x 4 pound bottles of water (just call me sucker!!). It kind of reminded me of an infomercial ... get this for just X, bla bla this can be yours for X – repeated over and over and then right at the end in small writing and a super quick voice over "plus shippping and handling".

  I have chatted to quite a few English people after this and I was told that Brits tip just as much as the Americans. And tipping is expected for hairdressers and other things besides wait staff. So I am seriously confused!! I have only had a limited time in the UK, so I can only draw on my own experience and what other English people have told me. The original incident and the following meals out that had service added in (which everyone in the group paid it without blinking an eye and they were local) paint a different picture to what the Brits on this thread are saying. Could it be different areas? I was in London, but the English people I talked to about tipping were from all over. So what is your take on this Brits?

  What Beliefs/ Practices of Jehovah's Witnesses do you Disagree With Most?

  most of us either when exiting the witnesses or after exiting have certain beliefs/practices that bothered us so much we could not suport this organization anymore.

  Non-doctrinal as well...

  The whole charity thing. In my corner of the planet their are days about a certain charity and everyone that donates gets a specific pin or something. Most people are really generous (as evidenced by all the pins around on a charity day) and I would feel so awkward saying no, and walking around evidently looking like a cheap ass. Especially when it was a charity that affected many peoples lives like a cancer charity. Now maybe I "misunderstood" the direction about charity – but from a child I understood we didn't donate to charity. Espcially if it was connected to a church, as that was all Satans system and donating would show we did not have true faith in god fixing things or something. By the time I was an adult and it was habit not to donate as it was just "wrong" no thought involved. One of the first thing I did was making a big donation to a charity I feel really helps people when I was on the way out.

  The JWs are trained to be helpless and rely on waiting for an imaginary god to fix all their problems. Many JWs are quite selfish with their things/money and do not have a generous or giving spirit at all (not all JW, their are a few gems). It really bothers me that the JWs do no form of charity and they demonize those who are trying to make this world a better place. The JW management is self centered, egotistical and narrsisitic. (Sorry for the kind of tangent!!)
