I've been out since 1984, and I occasionally start to hum a JW song. But it's usually a really old one--like from the pre-1969 green song book. Those were my favorites. I have a copy of that songbook and still like to play them on the piano once in a while. I have fond memories of my early JW days (back in the 50s and 60s). It wasn't until the 70s and 80s that I got disgusted with the organization. I'm not nearly so fond of the songs from that era. :-)

A Question thats troubling me........
by aud8 in"this good news will be preached for a witness to all the inhabited nations and then the end will come" nobody else is preaching any good news as far as i can see?
what do you think?

If the good news is "Convert to my religion or god will kill you," then, yes, the dubs are preaching the good news.
Lots of other religions have ministries. Have you ever talked to 7th Day Adventists? They have an impressive preaching program and publish a lot more literature than the dubs do. And they're just one example.
I agree with others comments that going door to door and trying to place magazines isn't preaching. Neither is sitting in the car gossiping while others in the car group makes not-at-homes that still aren't home. Preaching work? Bah!

God?!? hahaha. that so funny.
by d0rkyd00d inhere is a little post for all you people who believe in god, or at least the god that the bible presents to us.
first off, why would an all powerful being thrive on his creation's worship?
that is a little selfish if you ask me, and a little childish.

Anyone who believes in god should read Mark Twain's "Letters from Earth."

Blood and RANK dishonesty!
by Marvin Shilmer inthe thread started by maximus named gb admits it has no answers, blood ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=9056&site=3 ) is chock full of good information and is what this thread stems from.
if you have not already read maximus thread, you should.
i felt like adding my two cents about one aspect of that discussion.

You're quite right, voltaire, that there is a measure of community responsibility. I know for a fact that the Society has received a number of letters questioning their claim about Richard Lewontin's remarks. They have completely failed to acknowledge that anything is wrong, much less to correct their errors. Thus they have compounded the initial misrepresentation. Again, this is standard procedure for JW leadership -- they simply do not admit error to anyone, unless they're forced into it.

Alan Does the Twist
by Rex B13 init never ceases to amaze me seeing how alan's various toadies here fawn over his posts and kiss his behind up to the brown spot.
evidence of this is in the responses to his post about ot & nt morality.. alan uses his own lack of context to twist scripture as well as any jw writer.
a case in point is his notion that adultery and fornication are primarily related to an economic loss (with a woman as property) and not a violation of a clear moral code.

Well, Rex, for any of your points to be relevant you first have to prove that God exists. Go for it.

One time I put Jan's head on a nude photo of Yul Brynner. We called him Jan Brynner. :-) Hmmm. I wonder if I can find it. I did it years ago--about three computers ago, too. If I manage to locate it, I'll post it. I know Jan would love it.

Do you want the real truth or not?
by Jason inon this website there seems to be so many lies and so little actual truth.
is this supposed to be a place to get answers or confuse the hell out of truth seekers?
well, for you seekers out there, if you find the truth on this site it'll be a major fluke.

So, Jason, tell me. Do you also belong to the Flat Earth Society?

Position on College Changed?
by Maximus inseveral have made outright statements and others have suggested that the society's negative position on higher education has changed.
'the society does not discourage higher education where i live.
' worse, 'apostates have made it all up--the society has never discouraged education.

I hear you, Black Man. I think your desciption of what you went through as a black teenager is similar to the treatment women/girls got. I graduated in 1972, and I knew damned well I had only two options--pioneer or get married. It was unthinkable that I would either go to college or get a little place of my own and work full time. My father was an elder, and I didn't even question it. I hated service and didn't want to pioneer, so I ended up getting married at 17 to the first guy I dated (big mistake).
The funny thing is, a couple of years after I got married my best friend's father gave a talk at the circuit assembly where he said if you had the circumstances to pioneer and you weren't pioneering, you couldn't expect to survive Armageddon. So guess what? I ended up pioneering after all. :-( What a nightmare that was. Luckily I got pregnant and used morning sickness as an excuse to quit. :-)
I got divorced in 1985, moved to another city with my two young sons, and got my bachelor's degree. It's never too late.
