  Portland/Vancouver Fest! Pics soon to follow :)

  well, we had a grand old time yesterday dakota red kindly offered his home for our mini-fest, and what started off as a little party for searcher (our uk guest of honor) became somewhat more than that .

  in alphabetical order, our group included: bikerchic, blueyes, bruce and dorian baker, buster and wifey, carmel, dakota red, goshawk, lost diamond, onacruse, princess and steve (and steve's mom and a family friend), searcher, seven006, songmistress, and veniceit.. carmel brought some delicious salmon for the barbie, and we even got searcher to have a taste.

  we overlooked the fact that brits prefer to eat fish in the form of fish and chips searcher and songmistress--when we brought out the cake, everything was fine until somebody started to sing happy birthday...the words just sorta stuck in our throats, and we looked around at each other like a bunch of dubbies lolololol.

  I wouldn't trust him a bit! As for bribes, he edited a picture of me for Alan at no charge. He's a mean one, he is. Watch out for that guy!

  StinkyPantz, if I got worried everytime Alan talked to a woman from this board, I'd be one hell of a mess. Instead, I tease Alan all the time about his many admirers. Sure, they get to talk to him on the phone and admire him, but I get to be married to him!

  Farkel, I'd love to take credit for Julie's musical talent, but since she's my stepdaughter, not my real daughter, I can't quite go that far. However, both of my boys are incredibly talented, too. Maybe I'll take just a little bit of credit for them.

  What Next? Syria?

  ... i would say that we have seen chemical weapons tests in syria over the past 12, 15 months, rumsfeld said, without giving details.

  we have intelligence that shows that syria has allowed syrians and others to come across the border into iraq, people armed and people carrying leaflets indicating that theyll be rewarded if they kill americans and members of the coalition.. syria has long been on a u.s. list of states suspected of supporting terrorism...... you can find more here:.

  Some of you folks are forgetting one important fact: Bush in incapable of coherent thought, therefore it's impossible for him to mean what he says. He's a puppet for Cheney and Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. This war in Iraq has nothing to do with WMD or even Saddam. Many years ago, the Project for the New Amercan Century--to which Rummy and Cheney and their ilk belong--publicly stated on their web site their goal of taking over the Middle East and then moving on to countries like China. Yes, China. Iraq is just the easiest and first target. PNAC picked someone with name recognition--someone ignorant and pliable and arrogant--then raised the money and got him elected. And now he plays his puppet role like a good little boy.

  Read up on PNAC if you really want to be scared. They've taken some of the more controversial papers off their web site, but there's still some juicy material there. Then do a Web seach for PNAC, Wolfowitz, and Rumsfeld and read some of the articles that the international press has published about them, especially the British press.

  I'm afraid that this country is in for a long series of invasions (you can't call these things "wars"). In the meantime, education, social services, healthcare, social security, medicare--all the things the people of this country desperate need--will be sacrificed to pay for the ambitions of the PNAC gang and their buddies, who will be rewarded with lucrative rebuilding contracts after we go in and bomb the hell out of one country after another.

  I'm extremely discouraged about the state this country is in and where we're headed.

  What to do with my WT library?

  after i came back for down under this jan. i gathered up all my j-dud literature except my indexes, bound volumes, insight and aid books.

  these i wanted to use for references.

  i took the rest out to the dumpster behind my office and filled the thing!

  Should I let my kids visit my JW parents?

  i have a dilema.

  my parents are still active jw.

  last year they told me they had to limit their association with me.

  My sister has shunned her daughter since she was disfellowshipped six years ago, at the age of 18. In the meantime, my niece had a daughter and she allowed her parents to see the little girl once a month. They picked her up and spent the whole day with her. My niece had been very clear that she didn't want her parents teaching her daughter anything about the JW religion. She thought things were working out OK until a few months ago, when her parents started to ask if they could take the child out in service, if they could read the bible story book to her. etc. She said no. They could read her version of bible stories, but not the JW version. They could NOT take the child out in service or to meetings. About a month after this conversation, she received a letter from her parents. The letter said that if they couldn't teach their religion to the granddaughter, they couldn't in good conscience continue to "associate" with her. In effect, they're now shunning a four-year-old child!

  Needless to say, all association has ended. My niece is now pregnant with her second child, and she hasn't even informed her parents. All along I've had the opinion that to let her parents see her child while they continued to treat her like a piece of dirt was wrong. What does this teach the child? That her mother has no worth. That it's OK for people to treat her mother this way. That's not what I would want my children to learn about me. It's all about setting an example for children about human dignity and worth.

  I vote for not allowing the grandparents to see your children until they can treat you like a decent human being. You don't want to send the wrong message to your children--that this kind of behavior is acceptable. It isn't.

  i was reading a post that reminded me of the songs that were popular but was wrong to listen to for various reasons.. we all remember puff the magic dragon being about drugs, which i hear was just a rumour.. another i remember was let it be by the beatles, which was " catholic based about mary the mother of jesus" when apparently it was written about paul mccartney's own mother.

  shows what they know.. which songs do you remember that were "bad" that we were not supposed to listen to?

  I was already out when these two songs were popular, but I knew at the time they would have been taboo, so I took great delight in them:

  I Don't Wanna Be a Witness by Cindi Lauper :-) That song was my anthem when I quit the dubs.

  and how about

  I Touch Myself--one of my favorite nasty songs.

  When I was young, I would stop singing along to Simon and Garfunkle's Cecelia when it got to the part "when I come back to bed someone's taken my place." I just couldn't bring myself to say those adulterous words. :-)
