How many of you Ex Jehovah's Witnesses married early and it was a disaster?

you marry early becasue you can't have sex.. i was married at 19 and divorced at 50. the only thing that held it together was our involvement in the jw's.
otherwise it would have been over in less than 5 years.. my kids are not witnesses and have a terrible relationship with their mother, as she is always trying to shove it down their throats.. this is still happening.

Married at 17, a month after graduating from high school; he was 19. I thought if I didn't marry him, I'd never get another chance (there were at least a dozen girls for every boy in our circuit), and I didn't want to have to pioneer. No option to go to college or get a job and move out of my parents' home. It was a terrible mistake. He was a domineering brute. I stayed with him for 13 years, until I had the courage to leave him and the dubs at the same time. I moved to another town and started college and a new life. Never looked back.

i was at a friends tonite, and read a bit on jihadist cretins in saudi arabia, who have banned george orwells "animal farm" because the farm ends up run by pigs.. godly honest - hearted moslems are also seeking to ban piglet, and charlottes web from schools.. apparently the eyes of innocent moslem babies cannot be defiled by reading about unclean animaux taking over the world, but.
they can go to market to shop with mommy and see starving thieves having their hand sawn off (but humanely given a novocaine shot in the arm so they can watch but not feel it).

What do you know about Unitarian Universalists?
by Good Girl or Bad Girl? ini'm just wondering if anyone has looked into this faith or church or religion or whatever you might call it?
it seems like a positive community, but i have also read things about it that seem borderline scary to vulnerable people who are looking to fit in somewhere... .
i'm not looking for a religion to convert to or anything like that.

Oh, I wanted to add this: My children were already grown when I found the UUs, but I really liked their childhood education program. I wished at the time that I'd found it earlier, while the boys were still little. And our local UU church has a lot of adult education classes that are really good--much better than what is taught through the local parks and recreation department. I think we benefit from having a lot of educated people in this town and in the local church, so the classes are quite interesting.

I joined my local UU church about 12 years ago. Moved away, came back, and joined again. But I hardly ever go to services. That's the beauty of it! The minister at our church is really fabulous, and he's the biggest draw for me. The very first time I went, his sermon was a mock debate in which he played both characters. The subject of the debate was whether UUism was a relevant religion for the 1990s. After much hilarious back and forth, he turned to the audience and told us that the whole debate was moot because UUism isn't even a religion. Cracked me up, and sold me on the church--and him. I like the whole idea of UUism. The local church here is very liberal, considering how conservative the town is. There's probably an equal mix of people who believe in god and people who don't. Lots of gay families and couples. Lots of university professors (this is a university town--CSU). Lots of community involvement. The only reason I don't go is because I'm too damned lazy to get up on Sunday mornings and go to church. I'd rather be out riding my motorcle or lazing around the house. When I do go, though, I come away feeling very refreshed.

My new ride!

as i posted on the daily journal thread - we picked this up on saturday.
hubby has been wanting a bike for so long, and with the price of gas, and his commute - it will pay for itself in no time.. it's a suzuki boulevard m50, 800cc, fuel injected, liquid-cooled, v-twin engine (whatever that means!!)..

Alan's around. He's been working a lot of overtime for the past few months. Plus, he's also gotten to the point in his life where he's not as obsessed with JW things as he used to be. Personally, I'm not complaining!

I have to address Wasanelder Once's comment about people being aware of what they're getting into when they get baptized (even a 13-year-old child, which is nonsense). My husband once asked his mother--a lifetime JW whose parents were also dubs and who is married to an elder--what she would do if someone she was studying with asked "difficult" questions. Her reply was that she would try to avoid dealing with those questions until after they were baptized. I was a third-generation JW, and my father was an elder. But when I was baptized at age 14, I didn't really have a clue about what was involved and what Nazis the elders were (my father wasn't that type). Of course, I didn't really have much choice but to get baptized. And, being the nice submission female I'd been taught to be, I never would have thought of rebelling back then. Mild control is a difficult thing to fight, especially when you're a child.

Has the "House" TV show had its run? (possible spoiler)

hugh laurie is perfect in the role, great supporting actors, deep character development.
the plotlines are a little formulaic, but all the dialog and character interaction makes it ok. .

I still like House a lot, if for no other reason than watching Hugh Laurie. The show I've stopped watching is Nip/Tuck. I really liked season one. Season two was so so. Now it's just awful, IMHO. I can't stand to watch five minutes of it. I have to say one show I never get tired of is Monk. Tony Shaloub is absolutely fabulous and I love Ted Levine.
