  Question for Atheists

  christians who believe in the bible and the teachings of christ use that as a moral core and code of conduct.

  for those who don't believe in god, where do you get your sense of moral right and wrong?

  Wow 3% of JWs are single and living together??

  I was genuinely curious as to where those who do not believe in God or the Bible get their moral compass.

  I don't need a vengeful war God to tell me what is right and what is wrong.. If I did I might be strapping my kid to an altar to ceremonially murder him every time I get insecure about his faith in me. This attitude of Christians really irks me. I was once told I 'left God' just so I could do what I want without answering to anyone. I don't need the threat of hellfire or "eternal cutting off" to scare me into doing the right thing. In fact I would much rather do the right thing because it is right, not for fear of punishment.

  Particuarly in our time when morals seem to be in such a downward spiral.

  morals meaning 'adherance to ancient (IMHO obsolete) religious laws' may be going down, but true morals are the same or better as far as I am concerned.

  Favorite food at Assemblies

  i hated growing up as a witness.

  i hated the boring ass meetings where you could hear a pin drop on the floor, i hated going door to door and i hated not being normal like the other kids.. but the one thing i liked was going to the assemlies at the oakland coliseum.

  i would wander around and find other kids to goof around with.

  I used to like the burritos.. me and my friend thought it was funny that the menu said "SWEET ROLL CAKE PIE * tickets" (can't remember the exact amount).. we would go up and say I'll have a "sweet roll cake pie".. frozen OJ.. fruit bags when I was little.. The sessions were almost bearable when you had snacks under your chair to dip into..

  in all cases they're reduced to the ``yes, but'' defense; i.e.

  john 14:2-- ``in my father's house are many mansions.".

  yoyoma i'm an apostate and I don't care a rats ass if that scripture exists or not. You speak as though you think Isaiah or whoever wrote it is talking about ex members of a 20th century man-worshipping rule-following member-bleed-to-deathing history-rewriting knowledge-controlling oral-sex-disallowing etc-ad-naseuming cult.

  well, i expect this place will explode today.. and, frankly, im only posting this to assist simon.. some people here, think that there should be a position that there are no rules.

  and that anybody can post anything they want.

  even if it hurts people.in fact, so far, this has been the case.. and some people think that ,because it has been a free for all so far, a precedent has been set, and thus, it cannot be changed.. at the other polar extreme there is the terror of being on a moderated board.

  easing nature the very phrase itself brings to mind the odious product of this activity.

  yet, many people have the understanding that this natural bodily function is a practice in which true christians may engage.

  Nimrod - the original freethinker?

  in an earlier discussion on this board about whether the nwt mistranslated the verse in genesis about nimrod being "a might hunter in opposition to jehovah," there was some really interesting research material presented.

  as i read it i began to realize that there seems to be a central reason why nimrod has been presented as one of the truly evil men of human history.. the witnesses emphasize that he was the one who started war, becoming a killer and tyrant.

  but in one of the quotes, there is a more likely reason for nimrod being vilified and demonized.

  How Big is Your Hard Drive?

  this is serious...i know many of you are serious computer intells...i am a comp user who knows how to set it up and run programs..that is about it.... i am looking to buy a new comp...soon...i have a 400 mhz, pentium ii...it locks up, gets fatal errors and simply will not do many things that newer comps can...it is 4 years old.

  my question...what type of computer size is best?

  80 gig hard drive, 512 ddr sdram, 1.8 speed?

  this is serious...i know many of you are serious computer intells...i am a comp user who knows how to set it up and run programs..that is about it.... i am looking to buy a new comp...soon...i have a 400 mhz, pentium ii...it locks up, gets fatal errors and simply will not do many things that newer comps can...it is 4 years old.

  my question...what type of computer size is best?

  Englishman has found the secret of sanity with Window9x/ME; slap the OS in a small (max 2GB) partition or a seperate disk; if it gets cranky (and it does), you just reinstall the OS without effecting your data files.

  In fact once you have the system set up like that you can make a 'ghost' image of the boot drive (onto another HD, or a DVD-R) and recreate it from the snapshot anytime painlessly. That way you don't have to go thru all the Windows Update downloads and reboots. There are numerous ghosting programs out there (DiskImage is one I think, and Norton has one I can't recall the name of)..

  I just rebuilt my system and named it bohweemoth.

  1 ghz athlon
  512 meg ram
  cd (20x write) and dvd burners
  60 gig raid-1 mirror
  160 gig drive
  120 gig drive

  I need all that space (its cheap now anyway) for doing animations/VCD/DVD and playing with things like VMWARE , games, etc

  latelywhen i'm on my computer it will suddenly start making a lot of noise like files are being searched.

  this has benn happening a lot lately.

  i get no warnings of bugs or virises why else besides someone hacking into my computer would that be happening?

  What OS? 2000 (and presumably XP) occasionally run a file indexing process that churns your disc for a little while. How do you know you have no viruses?
