Ordered Complexity necessitates Design
by gravedancer injust a short question which probably was raised before.. the favorite argument of creationists: since there is such abundant complexity in the world around us and within us - doesn't this point point to design and therefore a designer (i.e.
god)?.
much info abounds on both sides of the answers to the question.

can't help but love her.. if god had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.

Why won't God answer my "Knee Mail"? I need to ask him why he is letting my dad slowly disintegrate from Parkinson's Disease?? Did he lose my dad's picture from his wallet and forget him? Because he doesn't seem so crazy about my dad anymore, nor my mom who has a full time job caring for him; like when he falls down and splits open his face on the kitchen counter. God probably has a nice laugh when he gets to watch my tiny mom spend 30 minutes trying to wrestle dad into the shower.
Excuse me for cynicism in this touchy feely thread but as far as I can tell this God person doesn't care a bit about anyone down here.

Galaxies, rather than stars!
by Yadirf ini suppose that if i were an avid reader of the various astronomy magazines available i'd have more of an understanding about this.
for quite some time i've wondered how astronomers must calculate that there are so many galaxies (although obviously they don't know the precise number).
i figure that it apparently has to do with first determining that certain points of light, visible through telescopes, are farther out than our own "milky way" galaxy.

Some stars have been found outside of galaxies:

How Do You Deal With Stress??
by JerryTX inwhat do you do when you're being blindsided from seemingly every direction and you're drowning in stress?
what do you personally do to counteract it?.
reading joelbear's latest post ("joelbear needs to calm down")reminded me of what it was like when first exiting the watchtower.

I agree with Jerry: relaxation, meditation, listening to music you are passionate about are all helpful. A few have mentioned Wayne Dyer; I have also read Erroneous Zones and found it quite helpful.

My personal favorite Meat Loaf song:
Heaven Can Wait
Heaven can wait,
And a band of Angels wrapped up in my heart,
Will take me through the lonely night,
Through the cold of the day.
And I know, I know,
Heaven can wait,
And all the gods come down here just to sing for me,
And the melody's gonna make me fly,
Without pain, without fear.Give me all of your dreams,
And let me go alone on your way.
Give me all of your prayers to sing,
And I'll turn the night into the skylight of day.
I got a taste of paradise,
I'm never gonna let it slip away.
I got a taste of paradise,
It's all I really need to make me stay
Just like a child again.Heaven can wait.
And all I've got is time until the end of time.
I won't look back.
I won't look back.
Let the altars shine. And I know that I've been released,
But I don't know to where,
And nobody's gonna tell me now,
And I don't really care. No, no, no.
I got a taste of paradise.
That's all I really need to make me stay.
I got a taste of paradise.
If I had it any sooner you know
You know I never would have run away from my home.Heaven can wait.
And all I've got is time until the end of time.
I won't look back.
I won't look back.
Let the altars shine.Heaven can wait.
Heaven can wait.
I won't look back.
I won't look back.
Let the altars shine.
Let the altars shine. -

Taliban prisoners in Cuba
by Abaddon indoes this trouble anyone?.
it seems semantic tom-foolery to declare a war on terrorism, and then to say that prisoners of the war are not prisoners of war.. it also seems very suspect keeping them of proper usa soil, as where they are they are out of sight, mind, or appeal by civil-rights factions.. do not get me wrong.. i am not saying, "ah, poor ickle terrorists".. but in a war against terror, surely taking each and every opportunity to distance yourself from your enemies is the wisest and best course of action?.
why do anything that is even remotely dodgy or underhand?.

I don't think war was ever legally declared. What else should they do with these prisoners? Existing procedures are probably not appropriate for these type of person. What is necessarily bad about making up rules as you go along? Some times you have to, as in a case like this; the USA has never before taken upon itself to wipe out a terrorist group.
