When I was about 5 or 6 my older brother (age 7) told me that if I slept on my back that the demons would look down at me and laugh at me. So from then on I slept on my stomach only. Thanks Bro!

Parents' scare tactics
by sunstarr inyou all know what i'm talking about.
those horror stories that parents tell their children to keep them from doing something annoying or potentially dangerous (e.g.
"your face will stick that way).

"Social Retardation"
by Alana inquestion for those who were raised as jws.....after you left, especially if as an adult, did you ever feel like you were "socially retarded"?
i was married twice to jws, yet when i was single again as an xjw, i really felt like i didn't know how to get to know someone of the opposite sex, how to date, what to do or not do, what to expect or not expect.
my ex-husband talked to me the other day and he stated the same thing.

I felt extremely underequipped when I finally left and tried to date like normal people.. Luckily I worked through it and became more comfortable over time.
Introspection: that show BLind Date rules

The Bible a reliable book!
by Truth Defender indespite the failings of many who claim to follow the bible and believe it, this gives no excuse to dismiss it's contents.
thru the centuries it has proved reliable and remains the word of god despite all else.

I don't understand the logic of religion
by Leander inif you ask a jw why does god allow suffering, more than likely you'll get the response that god has allowed satan and mankind to follow their own course to prove that only god has the right to govern over man.
for a long time i accepted that answer as being correct and i never even took the time to really think about what that meant.
now however when i reason on that logic i realize that it does'nt make sense.

Religion is not about logical explanations.. When religion tries to be logical it fails.. The reason religion is successful is that it has strong emotional and spiritual appeal. In the face of even the most damning physical evidence many religious folks merely look away, throw up their arms, and say "it sure is a mystery.."

Question for Atheists
by RWC inchristians who believe in the bible and the teachings of christ use that as a moral core and code of conduct.
for those who don't believe in god, where do you get your sense of moral right and wrong?
what is your moral foundation?

Wow 3% of JWs are single and living together??
I was genuinely curious as to where those who do not believe in God or the Bible get their moral compass.
I don't need a vengeful war God to tell me what is right and what is wrong.. If I did I might be strapping my kid to an altar to ceremonially murder him every time I get insecure about his faith in me. This attitude of Christians really irks me. I was once told I 'left God' just so I could do what I want without answering to anyone. I don't need the threat of hellfire or "eternal cutting off" to scare me into doing the right thing. In fact I would much rather do the right thing because it is right, not for fear of punishment.Particuarly in our time when morals seem to be in such a downward spiral.
morals meaning 'adherance to ancient (IMHO obsolete) religious laws' may be going down, but true morals are the same or better as far as I am concerned.
