i questioned it and called napa myself and they were absolutely settled back then.

The WTS won't forget they lost money and know stand to lose more if they don't fix-up their broken system though so this WILL potentially affect more change than the publicity IMO. -Simon

That's a good point. Forcing them into multiple settlements (whether gagled or not) will hit the Borganization in their most precious spot: their pocket; so they will need to enforce abuse reports to the police. Now, the general JW population will have to become aware that this settlement has happened and and a lawsuit is an option. But what about child abuses outside the USA?

Gerard, I am very disappointed in your disparaging remarks regarding Kim Norris.

For the record: Kim told me she would not setle, so that was disapointing and caused me anger as I felt she lied. Actually, Kim, you are the only one that has brought the WT to their knees. Your work is amazing and my opinion on your change of tactics should have been kept private, after all, I am not a victim but an observer.

I am very happy these victims got closure and substancial settlement. The root of my frustration (that I took on Kim) are the dozens or hundreds of children that are and will become victims of sexual abuse.... We must find a way that this settlement will help them too, but with a gag order, no reporter will want to touch it and the WT is winning.

The settlement in Napa, CA only scratched their anual $980 million income. The reason they are selling all those apartments in NY is that the WT bought a new printing system, which is highly automatic and extremely efficient, so they don't need so many operators at Wallkill. G

Who is really steering the ship - GB or Legal Dept.?

thinking on the recent news of wt settlements of numerous settlements in child abuse cases.... i would imagine that the decsion to settle was reached by the legal dept.

of the wts.

the question in my mind is, did they have to fight for "approval" from the gb to reach that decision to pay out (most likely) millions of dollars?

I'm glad for that handfull of victims, but what about the children that are being abused right now????

Can you tell me this outcome is going to save the current and future sexual victims??

With a gag order in place, exposure by the media won't happen. Any exposure on the internet will be minimal and dismissed as apostate lies. You know the drill....

Victory to this victims means a tear for current and future victims. Hard call to judge.

I'm waiting to hear some more details. But at the moment, this is my mixed reaction:

I'm trully happy for the Napa, CA victims, as this $ettlement is synomim of the WT accepting responsibility. I am glad that Kim Norris hit the Ivory tower hard in a place worse than their gonads: Their wallet.

On the other hand, I am extremely disapointed on Kimberly Norris, their attorney. I asked her a couple of years ago in this list and she said she would never settle. I guess everyone has a price...lawyers standing on the sidelines are not exeption.

A lawyer needs more abuses in the future to keep settling them out of court. Why kill the hen that lays gold eggs?

a group of people including former jehovah's witnesses will be protesting pbs television at 125 western ave. alston, ma.

for electing to broadcast the controversial video "knocking".

this slanted and one-sided video praising jehovah's witnesses is not all the viewing public should be told about the jehovah's witnesses.

I wonder if the executive producer of the Mormon documentary would be interested in creating an other high quality documentary but this time on the Watchtower/JW. Flooding his email account would not be nice; We could send him a letter with a few hundred signatures. Someone care to get it started?

i agree with most of the 'benefits' he describes from the religion - particularly the civil liberties they have gained in the us.

I'm sick and tired of the JW propaganda saing that they have improved my own Civil Rights. All thay've done is to benefit the WT to earn the right to wake me up on a Saturday 8AM.
