  I Still Don't Get It

  posters on several recent threads have waxed eloquent about reforming, reorganizing, reinventing, mainstreaming jehovah's witnesses.. the comparative efficacy of internal or external pressure has been one of the subthemes.. as a former 50 year "true believer", this seems like such an exercize in futility.

  if this is really an organization sponsored by the god of the universe, why dare steady the ark.

  if not, why bother?.

  Hello TMS,

  I have been curious about reformers and had thought it to be a lost cause. Perhaps I'm wrong. Pressure, Lawsuits ect. have been effective in the past and perhaps will bring needed "light" to other harmful issues. On the other hand.............................. Blood, shunning ,pedophiles,The lifestyle of JW kids not being able to do much of anything thats fun ,proms, sports, ect. no college ,living life with fear and guilt deeply embedded. How in the world do you reform something so screwed up ? There's so much to reform. I believe the ROOT of all of this and the key to reform is if JW's were able to look and research the information for themselves instead of having to rely and trust completely and without question on the org.
  What I would like to see happen , is to have the public educated about the org. Most people have no idea what the JW's are about. I think the internet, Dateline ( if it airs), and other publicity helps educate people about the JW's. Also former members talking openly and sharing their experienes as well as teaching people what the org is like is beneficial. Hopefully one day it will be recognized as a cult to the public much like how the moonies are a well known cult. If so it will prevent many from joining and leading a conrolled and unhappy life. It would make leaving easier in the aspect that they won't have guilt that they are leaving Jah but that they are leaving a cult. This is the area that I am interested in pursing. People are curious why I left. I have found that people are interested in JW's .

  My stepfather died tonight

  i have just finished making phone calls informing the family of the death of my stepfather.

  i was an adult when he married my mother, but i loved him very much.

  he was a wonderful man.. although he was a faithful jw, for his entire life (he was born to it) he was a really good man, and a true christian, i believe.

  No this is not all I ever do. Except when I turn on this silly computer. Am I the only one who can't believe how many hours I can spend at this site. Once I sit down I'm hooked!!!! I AM GOING TO TURN IT OFF!!! My house is a mess, I've got loads of laundry and homework to boot. Right now my husband is pacing waiting for me to get off so he can do some work from home...........

  the october 1 watchtower 2001 features articles on training children "properly" and dealing with a "prodigal child.

  the latest inside u.s. figures reveal that 86% of jw children leave the fold, with some 29% who eventually come back for reasons of family ties, most never "reaching out.

  " that means over half leave permanently.

  What a GREAT topic. I don't have any statistics to offer but I have 2 kids and that sure gives me the inside scoop on my former hall. It seems to be that many of the kids live double lives and once they get caught their disfellowshipped. Recently one JW boy (14 years old) got kicked out of school for possesion of drugs. I had talked to his mom , this happened just before I DA'd myself, and she said she could not think of a single elder that she could call. her and her husband cried and prayed but felt they couldn't turn to anyone. Another girl told my daughter when we left the org that she wished her mom would leave too. Her mom studies.
  I also wanted to add that I think ANYONE can make a big difference.I was a non important pip squeak in my hall. I had no family in and had a non believer husband. I was the weak sister sort. I was very insignifcant in my hall. Now thats all changed. The ridiculous title of apostate has made me this dangerous threat!!!! I've called bible studies, given out literature to several people and openly educate people like co workers , family friends and another weak sister who hadn't been going to meetings. I had an effective heartfelt talk that was sucessful with 3 people so far. The weak sister an I talked for hours and she felt the same way. She never knew others felt as she did and I referred her to COC. To make this short and sweet without all the details, I know I have already made a difference in some lives and I have only been out since May. I'm no Ray Franz but I like to do my part !!!!

  Hi ! I live between Elizabeth and Parker !! I went to the Franktown congregation as well as the brighton and Longmont congregation.
  I don't know anyone from Golden but thats where we have had our assemblies (at the school of mines).
  It's nice to know that there is another fellow Colordoian.

  well i've been away for a while, lot of stuff to sort out in my life.

  so anyway i've been takeing the info from this site and all the other apostate related sites (ha ha) and haveing some debates with my family, they don't know anything i'm talking about and realy got the brain washed replys youd expect.

  and to prove a point, i'm now deceptively after 14 years in exile studing with an elder....to challenge him, and unknown to him i want some satisfaction for what they did to me.

  Just a mom,

  I went and read Jeremiah and Ezekial !!! Bravo for pointing those out !! I especially enjoyed Ezekial 34: 4. I'm jotting that one down. Next time I run into a witness at the airport or see them in parking lots , I think I'll stoll over and ask them about it !!!
  I think that scripture would have stayed with me and nagged at me. Little seeds of truth are very powerful.

  that sick child molesting bastard is in jail now as we speak.. his sentencing is set for september 24th i think.. one down many more to go.. thanks to all who have supported this cause.. sheila

  I have tried to stay out of this thread but I can't hold my tongue any longer.
  Mommy, This is nothing personal against you. You seem like a nice lady with good intentions but your missing the boat on this one.
  You said that it is unfair to label a child molester a pedophile when he has ONLY molested once. You've implied that you also don't think its fair that they should spend the rest of their lives paying for that crime against that child.
  I have a big pet peeve against do gooders who think they are so nice and holier than thou when they cry for , light a candle for, and defend a child molester saying Its not fair, Give them a second chance. (excuse me while I puke).
  Do you realize its people like you who let these guys go free so they can go and rape and molest another child.
  I for one , don't really give a crap about being FAIR to any child molester. I'd rather focus my energy and SUPPORT to a victim. They have to live with the crime committed against them for the rest of their life. It doesn't bother me a bit if the molester has to pay for his crime the rest of his life. He made that choice.
  Even if that perpertraitor was himself a victim it still doesn't make it ok. He's dangerous. Most if not all child molesters have more than 1 victim.
  No one gets a pat on the back from me for defending a child molester. You may think your being kind and forgiving but you may just be enabling a molester to hurt another child.
  Theres my 2 cents on the subject.

  Thank you for the details. Even though the outcome was great (guilty on 4 counts) I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for the victim and family and friends to hear this man deny it. It made my blood pressure go up !!!
  It seems to me like he had every advantage but the jury could see through it all.

  I know a little bit about what happened to you through reading posts. My heart breaks that you didn't have the support from those that should have given it to you. No one can replace the comfort that a mother gives a child (even an adult child) and you didn't have that. Thank God you have your sister.
