  Hi Blackguard and WELCOME to the forum!!!!

  Your post was very interesting. I know next to nothing about masons but now I am quite curious. My husbands grandfather was a mason and I just can't picture him being involved in a occultish organization. I did hear that Russell was influenced perhaps by masonry but his comments on astrology shocked me. Where did you read those statements? Where did you find all this information?

  I see that your a newbie . How did you get involved with the JW's ?

  i was reading the post about the profanity and the deleting of posts etc.

  i've been coming to this board for about a year and a half.

  i only looked/read for about the first 6-9 months.

  Hi Iv4fer,

  When I first came here the swearing was a bit shocking. I kept thinking "these were my brothers and sisters?" I even called my husband over to read a few posts because I couldn't get over that these people were once or still JW's. I can see where it could be a bit of a turn off to a lurker but my own experience was that it was also amusing. I never knew so many JW's had a sense of humor, I rarely experienced that at the hall.

  None baptized at circuit assembly in Greeley,CO.

  first time i have ever seen or heard of this but no one was baptized with 800+ in attendance at our circuit assembly two weeks back!

  I use to go to the assemblies in Greely when I attended the Brighton congregation. Where do you live? I'm in Parker now and I also attended the Franktown congregation as well as a congregation in Longmont. Welcome to the board!

  Did being a witness bring out the best or worst?

  a person years ago made a comment to me, about witnesses.

  they said that in their opinion, being a witness brought out the extreme in a person.. for example, if they were untrusting, they would trust less.. if they were vindictive by nature, they would become more hateful and vindictive.. if they were kind and loving, they would even be more so.. basically, whatever type of person they were, being a witness would intensify that persona.. have you found that to be true?

  maybe you knew someone before they came a witness.

  Both.......... Like lilacs it made me a worse mom. I took away sports ect. because I didn't want anyone to think poorly of me. I worried about how everyone perceived us . It made me better in the sense that I was so worried about what people thought of me that I was extra nice to them. I was worried that if I wasn't perfect it would reflect poorly on Jehovah's organization. I should point out that I was soooooooooooooo nice to strangers but not really to my husband and kids. I rememeber on one occasion telling my husband to F off and then, with my book bag, off I set to the meeting! Granted he probably deserved that but I would have died if anyone from the hall knew I behaved that way !!!

  YOUR BEST DRUNK STORY

  what's the worse thing you ever did while drunk (assuming we've all been drunk).........when i was 16, we all got blitzed out of our minds at a witness wedding that happened to take place on hallowe'en.

  anyway, on our way home we thought it'd be funny to whip eggs at passing cars.

  unfortunately, the first (and last) car i hit was a cruiser.......i realized this as the egg was in mid-air.

  I've got a few, but the most interesting drunk story is what eventually helped me get out of the org. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

  I went to Montana on a vacation with a sister friend whose husband is an elder. I knew she was an alcoholic ( I could just tell) and sure eneough we drank all the way there and once we reached Butte we hit all my old favorite places. We danced and had ourselves a ball. My friend told me never to tell anyone because being an elders wife she is suppose to set an example. I really didn't think we were doing anything wrong. My husband didn't care if I went dancing and although we maybe got tipsy we weren't drunk. .............................................. Fast forward 1 year later . The 2 of us go to Stars on Ice, but first we stop to eat and of course have a few drinks. Some how I got shit faced. I was ended up throwing up in the bathroom and missed the whole program. My friend was angry at me for ruining her night out, she had looked forward to seeing the program but was instead holding my hair while I barfed. We sat in the stalls and she shared with me how she was an alcoholic and if they find out she is drinking she'll be DF'd. She said she would rather kill herself than be DF'd. To make a long story short, the next morning my conscience started bothering me about that night as well as others. I called the elders and told on myself as well as my friend. I know , what a rat! I didn't want to be bloodguilty and I wanted her to have everlasting life. . It got real nasty, her husband the elder I found out was a hypocrite. She lied as well as he did to protect her and I started to see the org through different eyes.

  its an oldie i know.. i remember, years ago, my parents had some people around for dinner that we never talked to.

  after a while we remembered why we never talked to them.

  the conversation was so stilted that my father, in a long silence, resorted to this question.

  In 1990 , a pioneer sister showed up at my door. She kept coming back and somehow I found I was studying. I was 23 and married with 2 kids. I worked as a cocktail waitress in a casino , my husband worked at the same place as well as going to college. We drank and did drugs and had weird work hours. Things were stressful because we had a lot on our plates. The org was a stable place and I thought the "truth" would solve all my problems. I got baptized in 1993 and left a year and a half ago.

  Newbie with question

  been browsing around...and i have to say it is alittle difficult to tell if this is a pro or anti jw site.

  any takers on filling me in on what the attitudes are around here?

  it seems there are quite afew inactive and df or da people but then there seems to be alot of chat about meetings etc.. for the record, i was raised jw from age 5, baptised at 15 and df at 17 and reinstated at 18. i would call myself inactive...most of my family are still active but talk and associate with me.

  After 10 Years, Will It Happen Today?

  her ladyship and i had planned to visit portsmouth in 2 or 3 weeks to see pompey play.

  unfortunately, their amazingly successful season means that there is nary a ticket available for a home game until january 11 when they play sheffield united.. however, we've just spotted that they are showing todays away game against sheffield wednesday live on sky sports around 5.30 pm.

  trouble is, they haven't won a televised game for over 10 years now, so kind folk, please think of me nibbling me nails as i spend a couple of hours squirming in front of the telly this evening.. englishman.. sky sports extra 17:30. live first division football (live sports, sport).
