Well, as Lore stated---and I AM serious---Lost. Still mystifying when watching the ending that I recorded on VHS tape! Also, the series finale of "Picket Fences." Boy Meets World. Home Improvement. Speaking of Picket Fences, it wasn't the SERIES FINALE episode, it was the 2nd Season finale, in 1994. For those who got into P.F. you might remember the season finale ended with the funeral for Mayor Howard Buss, after he had been shot by his own son, after going into the final stages of Alzheimer's. And, after the eulogy was delivered by Judge Henry Bone, everyone in the church slowly walked past the casket, giving it a good hard "whack", to let him know that they all missed him. And, the show's theme song slowly played in the background. A great piece of writing from David E. Kelly, the series creator, and I've got that episode on VHS tape. Love that scene. As an aside, I truly wish that the remaining seasons would be released on DVD. The first season is out there, but all the remaining seasons, I haven't seen them on DVD YET! Oh, yes, another great finale from another great David E. Kelly-created show...Boston Legal. With Denny Crane and Alan Shore getting married, for the sake of convenience. And, a Chinese organization taking over the law firm. Brilliant writing.

I went to my first Hypnotist show last night. I was amazed at how much it was like JWs

ok i was a born in and never watched or touched anything to do with hypnotist's as we are told to avoid them at all costs and i always followed all the rules to the letter.. so yesterday we have the county fair going on and they have this hypnotist show so i went to it.

the hypnotist called up about 15 people on stage and tried to put them under.

about five of them he just could not put them under so that left about ten people on stage.. of those ten the hypnotist could do almost anything to them, it looked like it was staged expect one of the young women had been sitting right by me and her friends were right next to me, so it did seem legit.. the hypnotist had them fall asleep and when they were in that state he would tell them that when they woke up they would react to key words he had said to them or when he touched his face a cretin way.. it sort of freaked me out because it was like how i was in the religion.

Life Is To Short: Just out of curiosity, was the name of that hypnotist at the county fair Mark Yuzuik, perchance? I've seen Mark at county fairs in the Southern California area (Orange County, San Diego), and he is always entertaining. What he puts on at county fairs is a "comedy hypnosis show", but still, his shows are rather entertaining; he has great showmanship sytle.

Wow! So... if that's supposed to be some kind of "proof", a manifestation that a person has received the so-called "Holy Spirit", then...no thanks, I don't want anything to do with that "Holy Spirit." It always amazing me, while channel-surfing on the TV, and I come across a Benny Hinn "healing convention", aka circus side show, and see people who have supposedly been "slain" with the holy spirit. People will fall upon the the floor of the stage, and flop around on the floor, like a fish out of water, as though they are in an epileptic seizure. So, that's the manifestation of the holy spirit eh, going into an epileptic seizure? No, thanks, holy spirit. I don't want any part of "you."

i loved it.

missed quite a few episodes due to attending kh meetings, but i'm making up for that.. the show reminds me so of growing up in a large family, having to share everything, and looking out for each other..

It was, and continues to be, a real "first-class" show. And, to think that CBS was actually considering CANCELLING the show, before its first season was even finished. I can remember at the time that there was a "grass-roots" campaign of letter-writing to the officials of CBS, asking them, What were they ***thinking***, cancelling such a great show? But, CBS re-considered, and the show continued on for many seasons after that.

Yes, indeed, sorry to hear about his passing. I have some memories of him. Way back in the olden days of my high school years, my high school Engligh teacher became friends with Mr. Bradbury, and she invited him several times, to come to our high school for student assemblies, to hear him speak. The first time that he came to our high school was, I think, back in 1970. After school had ended for the day, he was in the school cafeteria, just chatting informally with a group of students. I went in and listened to him for a while. I took out a sheet of notebook paper from my notebook, handed it to him, and he graciously signed his autograph for me. I still keep that sheet of paper in my own copy of The Martian Chronicles. The paper is kind of "yellowed" now, after over 42 years, but his signature is still very clear! The last time that I saw him in person was back in 2000, when he was doing a book signing at a bookstore in Southern California. Thanks for your work, Mr. Bradbury, thanks.

i have signed up few times in the past, it is not worth it because they want you to buy something even they say no purchase necessary.

Ooops...sorry about the 3 times that I signed with my "signature". My mistake. Anyway, one more comment to the original poster, Iamallcool: I have, in the past purchased things from Publishers Clearing House. They DO have some good products. I've bought a few magazine subscriptions and musical CDs in the past. So, PCH DOES have some worthwhile products that you can buy. But, you DO NOT have to buy anything, in order to enter the contest. The past few years, when I've sent in my entry form, I've ordered NOTHING, and I have no qualms whatsoever about not ordering anything. Hell, if I WERE to become the winner of that $5000.00 per week, then I could order things on future entries ALL THE TIME!!! But, not right now, because of the recession, and its effect upon me. So, hey, Publishers Clearing House, just enter me into the contest!!! May the PCH Contest "gods" smile favorably upon me.

To Talesin: Just a little insight about me. As mentioned, I'm in my late 50s, and still in the work world---or should I say, trying desparately to find gainful work right now, because of the recession. But, the idea, the concept of winning a huge sum of money, not even $5000.00 per week for the rest of my existence---just a huge amount, say, $500,000.00 in a lottery or contest---appeals to me sooooo much right now. I could then leave the work world, and never, ever, ever look back. Right now, I have absolutely NO passion for the work world, and all the crap that a person has to take in the work world. Sometimes, you hear about people who say that even if they won a substantial amount of money, they would STILL work even part-time, so as not to become bored. That doesn't describe me at all. I know that there are a lot of people who "identify" themselves by their career, or what they do for a living, and it's their so-called "passion", but I've never been one to do that. And, right now, in the current recession that the U.S. has been in for the past 4 years or so, it is not fun or enjoyable to be out there SEARCHING for work. Anyway, it seems that you did, indeed, look up the word "anhedonia, and you saw that it means, bascially the lack of enjoyment or pleasure in anything. It's the opposite, I suppose of hedonism, or being hedonistic. I've told my older brother recently that what I wish medical science would develop is a new "drug" or pill that a person cold take, and after ingesting it, passion, enthusiasm, excitement would "flood" the brain. And, I jokingly mentioned meth---that's right---methamphetamine. I was watching a show on PBS recently, that explained how meth acts upon the brain's dopamine centers, and releases dopamine, so that a person "feels on top of the world", with a euphoria like no other, after taking it. Not that I would seriously consider getting into illegal substances like meth, but still, isn't there some chemical that can restore a person's passion and enthusiasm? I wonder. I recently tried a bottle of the herb called St. John's Wort, which is supposed to elevate a person's mood, and after finishhing the amount of pills in that bottle, I can safely say that it had NO effect upon me, personally, with regards to my predominant mood. It's "flat-lined." Neither up, nor down---just "flat-lined." Anyway, that's why I look forward, eagerly, to becoming the next WINNER of the PCH Sweepstakes---$5000.00 a week for life! Or, the Lottery. Either one. Good having a dialogue with you on this site.

From the research that I've done about Publishers Clearing House, it isn't a scam. Someone DOES eventually win, but yes, the odds of winning are indeed, huge. Personally, I receive envelopes from PCH, and I DO send in the entry. I make it a game to go through all the brochures and find all the stickers that I need, attach them to the entry form, and mail it back to PCH. Hey, I'm only risking a 45-cent stamp. Maybe I'll someday win it, maybe I won't. But I can still "dream" of being a PCH winner.

Anyway, a response to talesin, and your comments about knowing what your passion is, and to pursue it. What does a person do when you are like me, a person who no longer has a passion for ANYTHING in life anymore. I really don't. I'm now in my late 50s, and the passion, the enthursiasm, the excitement, for the work world died in me YEARS ago. So, what do you do when the passion for anything just isn't there anymore????I truly believe that I have what is called anhedonia. If you don't know what that is, I invite you to search for it on any search "engine."

apologies if this has been discussed before, but i am really very interested in finding out why members here left their congregations for lives away from jw?.

was there a "lightbulb" moment where you just woke up one day and realised that you had been brainwashed?

or a slow realisation over time?

I faded out of it when I came to the full, complete, realization, after soooooo many years, that I simply have no spiritual hunger, no spiritual craving, no spiritual yearnings that need to be satisfied, or satiated by any kind of religious belief structure. Religious belief structures do nothing for me. None do.

I suppose that I just didn't inherit the so-called "God gene" that some scientists think that people have. And, I think that there are probably millions of persons who didn't inherit that "gene", if there really is one.

JW Children in Meetings

hi my first post.. for the people that grew up in the religon, do you have any memory of being spanked for not sitting still in the meeting?

i see kids acting like kids but the parents take them out and spank them for something like not sitting still.

some of my worst memories are my father taking me out for a beating with a belt or his hand.

Wow! This thread post really brought back memories of my own mom, and her experiences of "championing" the rights of children. My mom passed away more than 30 years ago, and she DID pass away as a practicing Witness, HOWEVER, she had zero tolerance for what she saw and perceived as child abuse amongst fellow Witnesses. When she saw it occuring at meetings or large assemblies, she would confront the offending party with "both barrels", and let the person know, in no uncertain terms, that what they were perpetrating upon a little child was wrong. I remember once when she had a spirited confrontation with the daughter-in-law of an Elder, and with the Elder himself, for what the young woman was "dishing out" to her young son, who was about 2 years old at the time. So, yes, there have been some Witnesses, including my mom, who would NOT tolerate the physical and emotional abuse that some JW's would mete out to their offspring.
