i dropped out with 3 months left to go of the 12th grade.
my uncle offed me a job and the end was only a few years away.
my mother even though she was dyed in the wool at the time said she would only go along with it if i took a correspondence course out of american correspondence school out of chicago.
Nope, did not drop out of high school. My parents insisted that I should at least finish high school and get my high school diploma. That was back in 1972. And, for the most part, I DID enjoy high school and did the best that I could.
But, a lot of my contemporaries at that time dropped out, with the idea of taking some of "correspondence school" to get their diploma. The mindset then was that school, even high school, would somehow "corrupt" a person, and hey, the "end" was so near. They had to spend the time preaching, and not waste time in high school.
But, you know what? For the most part, they never completed their correspondence school and obtained their diploma.
I remember going to a small congregation picnic, later that Summer after graduating, with those contemporaries of mine at the picnic. And, they all congratulated me for having graduated from high school. A lot of them admitted to me that they did not "like" school, not because of some corrupting influence, but they just didn't like one particular teacher. That was reason enough to quit school! Ah, well, such is life. Best Regards, all!

the last lines from the movie platoon.
"i think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy, we fought ourselves, and the enemy was in us.
the war is over for me now, but it will always be there, the rest of my days.
"Gentlemen, it has been a privilege flying with you."
Tom Hanks as Jim Lovell, to his fellow astronauts, just about to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere, in Apollo 13.
"Gentlemen, it has been a privilege playing with you, tonight."
The leader of the small band on board Titanic, just as time was running out for the ship, in Titanic.
in july of 1969, i was 16 years old and was pretty excited by the prospect that the us would shortly land a man on the moon.
however, i remember, vividly and older brother at the time confidently stating that man would never walk on the moon, quoting psalms 115 - "as for the heavens, they belong to jehovah.
but the earth he has given to the sons of man.
Greetings, all! Myself, I was 15 years old at the time. And, that day, guess what? I had just attended the 7th & final day of that year's International Assembly, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. I got home that evening, just in time to watch the adventure on TV. I had no doubt that humans had put to use marvelous technology to get to the Moon, or, Luna, so I have never been one to believe the "conspiracy theories" that it was all staged in some studio somewhere. But, you know Folks, it's always fascinated me, that in the entire history of humankind, just a "handful" of people have ever had the experience of viewing Planet Earth from the vantage point of that body out there in space, called the Moon (Luna) Most people, in the history of the human race have looked up at night, and looked at the Moon. But, only a few have looked back from "up there" back at Earth. I am pleased that images have been recorded on television, and photographically.
I plan to watch "Chasing The Moon", next month, on my local PBS TV station.
Space exploration is "humbling" That leads into another thing that I have thought about. That is the short video, which you can view on the Internet, called, "The Pale Blue Dot." It's a photo of Earth, as captured by one of the Voyager spacecrafts, from billions of miles away from the Earth. Carl Sagan had requested officials of NASA that the spacecraft turn its camera around, to photograph Earth, from that distance. That pale blue, dot, suspended in a light beam, as photographed from billions of miles away, was....US! Our home...our planet. It is a very humbling video/photo to watch, with Mr. Sagan's thoughts about it. It you've never seen it/heard it, try to do that. Best Regards, Everyone.

Anyway, Folks, it's on my "bucket list", to attend a concert by Yanni. Perhaps some day.
Titch.
No, never have been to one of his concerts, but I'd LIKE to. Yanni's music, to me, is VERY refreshing and stimulating. And, he and I are the same age, having been born in 1954. The very first CD of his music that I bought, was the "Live At The Acropolis" album; and I've bought several of his CDs since that one. I even have the combo DVD/CD of that concert, "Live At The Acropolis". His music always enthralls me. Best Regards, everyone.

do you support socialism?
is it something that you would want in your country?.
Well, living and, having been born in the United States of America, I do NOT live in what is considered to be socialism. BUT-----However----the older and older that I get, with each passing year---and I just turned 65 this past Sunday---the more and more that I LIKE---LIKE---the idea of Socialism---as a concept. I really do. You know, as a 65-year old, I kinda LIKE the idea of "free stuff". You see, I've been in the "work world", the "labor force, since I was 18 years old, while I was still in high school. (I started working for a JW, in---what else---the cleaning business, the janitorial business.) I've done many things since then, primarily clerical, general office work. But, right now---at the age of 65---I am just a liiiiiiiiiiitle bit burned out, worn out, from the freakin' work world. I really am. I've had to put up with soooo much crap in the work world. So, yeah, I kind of like the idea of Socialism. What's wrong with being-----well, "social"? So, OK, that's my take on the subject. Best Regards, all.

january 29th - my baptism date.
can you remember how you felt at your baptism?.
i got baptised because my dad kept frightening me.
50 years ago, this past October, so, 1968. It was in conjunction with a C.A. at the Orange County Fairgrounds, in Costa Mesa, California. Oh, to be sure, after the baptism, it brought other congregational "privileges", such as prayer before or after a meeting, reading the paragraphs at the Watchtower Study, or Book Study, having parts on the Service Meeting. Best Regards, all!

here's one of mine .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyotvgpn0ru .
how about you?.
I do enjoy the1984 Band Aid classic, "Feed The World." I've enjoyed the many videos of the making of that piece of music that have been uploaded onto YouTube. I remember the first time that I heard that song on the radio, here in Southern California. It was late afternoon, on a December day, getting close to sunset. My work colleague and I were coming back from the company's warehouse, picking up a few file boxes to be brought back to the office. And, as we were going over a Southern California freeway, with a bright, colorful, orange/yellow sunset off in the distance---the kind of sunset that happens this time of year---the chorus of that song....Feed the world, was playing on a local radio station. Nice. I didn't really know what the song was, but I would come to know later that month, as the month progressed. Best Regards, all

happy winter solstice to all!
.
the solstice this year will be extra special because it will be followed the next day by a full moon known as the cold moon, and depending on your location, you might be able to see the ursid meteor shower to boot.. enjoy!
Thanks for the nice Solstice wishes.....But, one must remember, it is Happy Winter Solstice Day, for those of us who are in the Northern Hemisphere. For all of those who are in the Southern Hemisphere, it would be Happy SUMMER Solstice Day. Whatever. The Summer/Winter Solstice DID happen on the 21st of December. But, you know something, I've often wondered, What is it at the Equator, that imaginary dividing line that separates the two hemispheres of Earth? What is it there? Is it Winmer, perhaps? Or, Sumter? I wonder. Just a thought. And, during the Spring and Autumn periods, what is it along the Equator? Sprautumn? Autring? Who knows. Well, have a pleasant change of seasons, wherever you might be!
