Looking Back In Retrospect To 1975...

greetings, folks: so, it's been 40 years since 1975. and, if you were actively involved with the witnesses back then, the mindset of many was, that by early autumn of 1975, it would mark the anniversary of 6000 years of human existence.

and, the hope was then, that it would mark the start of the 1000-year of christ, from the heavenly realm.

but, looking back now, 40 years ago, in june of 1975, only 3 more months remained until early autumn.

Thanks for the replies so far, everyone. And, yes, snugglebunny, that movie, Jaws, WAS scaring everyone half to death! Another thing that I thought of is the idea that supposedly, whenever the nations collectively were saying "peace and security", that was supposed to somehow, "trigger" the end. But, yeah, the resignation of Richard Nixon was supposed to have SOME significance. The end of the Vietnam War was supposed to have SOME significance. With events such as that happening, the "end" was imminent! Myself, personally, although I never divulged my thoughts to anyone is, Well, maybe 1975 will bring the end, maybe it won't, who really knows? Of course, one must remember that there was the thought that the first 6,000-year "creative day" didn't end UNTIL the supposed "first woman" was brought into existence. Whenever THAT happened, would bring the 6th creative day to its end. And, the thought was that was that it was only a year, maybe 2 years. So, 1977 or 1978 would be the end of the 6th day. Well, let's see now, its been about 40 years since then. So, Adam was alone in the so-called "Garden" for over 40 years??? Really? Hmmmm. It was probably a good thing for him. If he had only known, during that 40 years, what that woman would do...(sigh)...

And, if you were actively involved with the Witnesses back then, the mindset of MANY was, that by early Autumn of 1975, it would mark the anniversary of 6000 years of human existence. And, the hope was then, that it would mark the start of the 1000-year of Christ, from the heavenly realm. But, looking back now, 40 years ago, in June of 1975, only 3 more months remained until early Autumn. That would have been September, or October of that year. So, looking back in retrospect, do you remember anything---ANYTHING at all---that was happening on the world scene, that you would have thought, "Yeah, this is it, the Great Tribulation will soon be here, and the start of Armageddon"? Can you recall anything at all that would have caused you to think that? I can't. I can't recall anything of great significance that would have caused me to think along those lines. How about you? if you're familiar with that station, you might remember that in the 1970s and 1980s, kabc would have a show on sunday evening, called "religion on the line.

" over the years, there were several hosts who would be a host for the program.

To DNCall: Thanks for mentioning the name of "Carol". Come to think of it, I think that you might be remembering Carol Hemingway, who was a long-time host on KABC. I wonder where she is now. I enjoyed her show that she had, including hosting Religion On The Line. I also remember that back about 1975 or 1976---I don't remember what year---they had an actress who had became a Witness---on the show. That was Teresa Graves (Remember the television show, "Get Christy Love"?) And, those are interesting observations, Magnum. Best Regards...

Growing up, and residing in the Southern California area, I would---and still do---listen to a local talk-radio AM station, that being KABC. If you're familiar with that station, you might remember that in the 1970s and 1980s, KABC would have a show on Sunday evening, called "Religion On The Line." Over the years, there were several hosts who would be a host for the program. Usually, they would have a regular panel on the show: A Catholic priest, a Jewish rabbi at times, and another person from another religious organization. And, sometimes, they would even have a Witness from a local congregation as a guest---but not that often.

So, did any of you listen to that show? What is your impression of that show? I have an incident to relate, regarding the show. One Sunday evening, back in the mid-1980s, I was returning home from an event---a theater event---in the L.A. area. And, I was taking home with me, a couple of fairly recently-converted Witnesses. So, since it was Sunday evening, I tuned in to KABC, to listen to "Religion On The Line." After a few minutes of listening to the show, it apparently became evident that doing that was the wrong thing to do. (In their mind) Those two newly-minted Witnesses objected to the show, saying that we shouldn't be listening to that. You'd think that I had invited Charles Manson into my car. Those religionists on the panel were nothing more than agents of Satan's world of "false religion", and we should NOT be listening to "Religion On The Line." Did any of you have that kind of experience? Best Regards, all.

I distinctly remember a Circuit Overseer making a comment, in a talk at a Circuit Assembly---back in 1973---about the "closeness" of the "Great Tribulation" and Armageddon. He likened our time that we were in then, in 1973, as the functioning of an alarm clock. An alarm clock, he stated, right before it strikes the hour, will make a distinct "click", right before the alarm sounds off. So, right now, he stated, we were in that split second between the "click" and the alarm sounding. Yeah...right. Best Regards, all.!

No, I don't think that the current President, Barack H. Obama, is a Muslim. But, even IF he were a Muslim, what are people afraid of? Do they honestly believe that if he were a Muslim, that the United States could not survive as a nation? Do they REALLY believe that he is going to try to turn the United States into an Islamic country? Quite frankly, I am looking forward to the time in this country's future history, when a person who is a professed atheist---or at least a professed agnostic---occupies the White House as the President. Either a man or a woman, doesn't matter. Best Regards, all.

and, the question is: what if life---as you know it---was just one big dream?

I'm not really sure as to what category that I should put this into, so I'll just try, and put it here. This is based upon a posting that I saw and read on Facebook recently. And, the question is: What if life---as you know it---was just one big dream? And, when you die, you wake up.

Hmmmm. Interesting concept. So, how would you feel if you woke up---after dying---and discovered that your entire life---your entire existence---had been just one huge dream?

Myself, I would say that it's been one hell of a dream. And, I must have been "tripping out" on some hallucinating mushrooms before going to sleep and "dreaming" all of THIS as happening.
