Eternal life for flesh and blood creatures
by donny ini was explaining the basic teachings to a non-witness coworker the other day and we began talking about the incident in the garden of eden.
i told him that according to the society, if adam and eve had not sinned, the world today would be full of perfect human beings who never die.. he then asked "what about the animal kingdom?
would they be mortal and grow old and die and if so, how would god explain that to humans?".

animals were not mean to be immortal, according JW doctrine. In fact it has been reasoned that the only way adam knew what death was, thus making the threat about the tree of of live understandable, is because he saw animals die.

If You Were Ever An Elder...
by Henry inwhat about the responsibility of being an elder did you dislike the most?
i served from september 2003 - june 2006. there were two things that bugged me the most the first was i got sick of the bickering amongst the body.
we had 7 elders and in nearly every situation, big or small, there was some division that got personal.

I agree with what most said. I read what "on the way out" said with particular interest in light of the other thread on atheism. Interesting that you still carry the worst quality of any JW after so long a time, that whole judgmental thing. How anyone could read my post trying to apologize for bad wording and get what you got only shows how much the organization scared you. As one elder to another I am truly sorry. Perhaps one day we can meet and I can buy you a beer. Nothing like a drink and a laugh to mend fences. Until then I will say this clearly for all to hear and understand: I am currently an elder, true. However, I DO NOT believe everything that comes from the branch. Far from it. I have seen up close and personal everything every elder has said in this thread. We all know the truth of it. The pettiness in an elders meeting is unbelievable, and yet these men claim to be lead by holy spirit. I read COC with great understanding...I could see the truth in everything he described on the GB in my own body. It all adds up. However, I have a great amount of family who are zealots to high degree, my dear wife included, whom I don't want to lose. My fade will take much time, and its fine. I can work with it. I'm in no rush. I'm not bitter. As a born in I may have missed some things, but i have never felt "left out". I have done anything I have ever wanted to do, organization be damned. I have never been a traditional JW in that respect. I take my current role as an elder as a chance to really help those who may need it and those I may be in a position to help. I try my best to be a moderating force on the body. I understand it's mostly pointless but I do what I can with what I have. So for all those who want to see my as a JW apologist, fire away. As I said on the atheism thread, I think most people are good at heart, JW or not. I simply try to be balanced. The JW's are not all bad, but do have serious issues that I have problems with. Things that have made a bit of a COC for me. If some want to say, as they already have, that I am partly brain washed still or haven't left all of my JW training behind, so be it. I will always have JW in me. All of us who were in always will. We cant undo who we are and how we were raised. I wont try. I will be the best man I can based on what I know. The best Husband, Father and Friend. And for now, Elder.
"on the way out", the drink offer stands. Unfortunately I have once again reached my newbie post limit and can't respond for 18 hours. until then /lurk

"My" atheism...
by changeling ina comment on dgp's thread about being kind to jw's promted me to post this thread.. as a life long (46 years) jw, i was conditioned to doing "the right thing" because it was required of me.
i was also conditioned to be on the lookout for others not doing the right thing and either distancing myself from them or reporting them to the elders.. today, i consider myself an atheist.
i have nobody telling me what the right thing is or fear of being punished for not doing it.

LOL well yes I really am an elder. and I counldnt say if we have meet since I dont know you... yet.... To be clear, I dont think being an atheist makes you a mean bastard. I think most people are good at heart. I really mean that and I have said it twice. My point was to the OP who was asking if he (or She) should be kind to a JW. It seemed like a self explainitory deal to me, of course be nice to everyone, but I took a biblical stance on it. I played that against the view that I have also seen on this board, the view that once you get out of the org you hate everyone in it forever. That is not an exageration. We have all seen it from time to time. In short, if you still profess beleife in God and christ you must be kind. if you dont, then you can be kind anyway because, as I mentioned, most folks are good at heart anyway. As for being underobligation... it was a scriptuarl referance. Its never good to pretend to be anything you are not, but as humans we can choose to be what we want. Christians are directed to choose kindness. I am not so arogant so as to beleive that a christian choosing to be kind is better than an atheist choosing to be kind. Not my point at all. Just saying a christian is obligated. Unfortunatly if this prevokes more discussion I will be unable to respond for several hours since i am at my newbie post limit. I'll check back in later..

Please don't take my remark to mean that I think that all atheist are by necessity mean bastards. i simply meant that some lose faith and are no feel bound by the law of the Christ. I pointed out that those who still hold to faith in God and Christ after leaving the JW's are still under obligation to treat others kindly, regardless of that persons faith. Thats all I was pointing out. I also believe that most people are generally speaking good at heart. I take that to be true of you my dear changeling. I am the most non judgmental JW elder you will ever meet. Please don't take me to seriously or take it hard. Nothing but love for you.

oh misery you have missed the very best star wars stories. Graphic novels are fine, but dont compare to the novels on any level. MAKE the time and treat yourself. I highly recomend the Darth Bane series, but an older one that may really tickle you is called "I Jedi". its about a man named Corren Horn who learns about the force from Luke after the whole return of the Jedi movie. Its really good and not overly deep. Good story telling overall. I still have a post limit so if you want to hit me up about this PM me.

mrsjones, Look at all my posts.... none of them have been controversial or designed to fight. Thats not my style. I never run from a fight but I'm not into starting them. Simply put I am not in line with the organizations teachings but I am not ready to leave. I have to much wrapped up into this multilevel marketing cult. Thats why I like the alternative viewpoints found here. I have never been afraid to hear what the other side of an issue is, and certainly not when it comes to bible truth. that's what field service is supposed to be, not just passing out mags. All that said, I enjoy reading the well thought out comments that many make and dismiss the obvious hate that some of the more bitter folks have toward JW's. I GET the bitter ,don't misunderstand, and if folks want to be bitter I wont argue or try to tell them otherwise, I'm just not going there. So all that said... Bane is an idiot who wants to argue and not challenge what he may believe. I love to LEARN and that means being wrong at times. Bane doesn't want to be wrong. He wants to argue. Also his name is taken from a recent star wars series. No 44 year old JW man (as he claims to be) would identify himself with the leader of the sith movement. Its funny that so many here are so ready to jump on a JW apologist that they took the chance to argue with that obvious troll... I am sure if he is ignored, as he should be , he will starve and die like the troll he is.

Does it make a difference if you are kind to a witness?
by dgp injust a hypothetical question.
suppose you meet someone who happens to be a jehovah's witness.
suppose you get to know how he/she lives, and, though you understand you can't do much for the person, you still show you care.

Does it make a difference? Personal decision. So many on this board have become atheist ...they may feel the "hell with-em". But if you still believe in the bibles message we owe it everyone to be kind, especially to those who are in a bad spot, one we ourselves may have been in at one time. So does it make a difference? is it right or good to be kind to a JW? Everyman for himself of course, but I try to be kind to all until given a reason to do otherwise.
