  Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?

  until recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.

  it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.

  do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

  i say the following as someone who has no belief in a specific god other than Thor (just watched avengers on blue ray... AWESOME!!!!!)

  Its all ego. Really. ITs all peoples attempt to show how superior THEIR belief system is, be it God or No God, may be a god or definatly maybe not a god possibly. Its all ego. The back and forth and the 'oh if only i explain it this way or that way' and the 'oh im so clever im the first person in history to ever theorize about god this way or that way'... its all self serving ego driven bull crap.

  When people REALLY believe something they arnt dissuaded by one view point or another easily, they are secure in what they think and believe. That sense of security in ones view point leads to easy going conversations that dont stink like week old fish left on a radiator. Yes emotions come into play of course, but really so much of this is the ego's need to convince someone else that we are right in our view point and the sense of affirmation that comes from having convinced someone else of it.

  Its all reminiscent of some stupid thug who got a gun and feels the need to wave it around to prove hes a big man, or some teenage girl who devlops nubs of breasts and wears cloths three sizes to small to show them off, of a body builder wearing some ridiculous tight shirt to flex in.....

  The reality is conversations and challenging each others beliefs is GOOD. we learn and grow and are forced to consider our own positions.

  What is going on here off and on for the past few months isnt even kindergarten sandbox stuff. Kindergarten sandbox stuff ends at some point because even little kids get tired of it. So far it hasnt grown old here. I truly and sincerely hope every last one of "us" ( i will include myself being guilty as I know i am) will get the hell over it all soon, learn to have rational discussions that challenge ideas and not take everything so goddamn personal.

  In other words, i hope we learn to STFU and learn to respectfully discuss and then accept others beliefs without feeling the need to 'kick at every barking dog'.

  same time.. within a few weeks after jesus was crucified, a movement.

  a mother in north texas has been awarded a guinness world record for donating breast milk.. alicia richman, 28, from granbury, pumped over 86 gallons between june 2011 and march 2012 for donation to the mothers milk bank of north texas, a nonprofit that supplies neonatal intensive care units.. the vast quantity equates to 11,000oz - to put it into context, a typical newborn's feed is around 3oz.. she told cbs dfw: 'i pumped at work, on vacations, in the car.

  oh yeah, some texan chicks are cows, walk into a walmart at 1:00.

  fortunatly we have lots of hotties too. long summers and plenty of excercise/outdoors

  Yea i was expecting that kind of stupidity when i first clicked. Its a nice story and i hope other mom's have the courage to follow suit

  Ill leave it mega praise for Alicia Richmond. She thought about more than her own immediate family and gave something very personal, very precious to help others. In speaking about it publicly she opened herself to redicule but (i hope) inspired others!

  It was a quote from hitler on an internet forum so i clicked.

  However in this case well applied. History is full people who didnt let the facts get in the way of a good story. Neother hitler nor the wtb&s society are the first, but they use the principle very effectivly and without remourse

  What if you could just walk away? No DF'ing or Shunning?

  if i could tell my mom and other family jw's that i wasn't going back, didn't believe it and wanted to move on with my life without worrying about being df'd or shunned, i'd do it in a heartbeat.. but, that is not the case.

  wonder how many the wtbs would lose if they changed their policy on this?

  how many of you would have left sooner if there were 'no strings attached' to the wt?.

  Yea i often noted that df'ing or even unoffical df'ing is the only reason 40% are around. If they ever opened the doors the flood of those leaving wOuld be astonishing to them i think. I think they really believe most are diehards and true believers. And 60% is "most", its a majority , but a sizable number arnt
