"it was always the mother or an older daughter who took the responsibility of removing a noisy little one from the main hall. i got so tired of the dirty looks from turned heads during meetings that i just quit going."
When I tried to remove my young children because they were noisy, the elders weren't even happy with that. I understood child development, and refused to beat my kids for not being able to sit still for two hours at a stretch. I would take them to the library, which had speakers and a glass window you could see the main hall from.I was actually called on by name from the platform to answer a question in the Revelation book (we had our book study at the hall while our study conductor's house was being rennonvated) one time. The conductor made a big deal about me not being in the main hall. Then I was told by him and another elder after the meeting that the B school/library was not a nursery (didn't matter that I had a nursing newborn and preschool children I was bringing to the meeting by myself).
I didn't go for months after that!

Why don't Jehovah's Witneses offer childrens activities?
by Dragonlady76 ini have always wondered why the jw's don't have a playroom/area or offer kids activities during the meetings.
i would imagine it's been brought to the societys attention at some point.
it just makes so much sense to offer a place where kids and go and play, where they can be read to, have them sing, color pages on bible related stories etc..... .

"1. Air Condition the Parking lot. We all know it's hot as the Devil's anger out there, and don't play like YOU don't. No wonder the only person you can hire to go collect carts is half-retarded.

Why are beards so bad?
by bother_forever inwhats with the idelology behind jws that "bro's" with beards are undeserving of privledge and advacemet in their f**cked up org?
what jesus never had facial hair?
i remember hearing comments like " yes he's a lovely bro, but he'll not be used by the cong because he needs to shave his beard".

I agree with obedience litmus test thing. It never really made any sense to me that they would forbid it, since Jesus wore one, and weren't we supposed to be following Jesus?
Everyone man I knew who faded or left grew a beard, including my dad and my son(as soon as he could get one to grow):) -

The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the rock stood firm.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand went SPLAT! -

The REAL origins of JW's (look it up at your local library)
by ithinkisee indon't just go back to the 1800's to research jw's.
go back even further - to the first century.
in the first century, even during the time of the apostles, destructive sects were attempting to divide the congregations.

Narkissos,
But what about their claim that the one hundred forty-four thousand are chosen by spiritual annointing, and that only they and Jehovah "know" if they are truly of that class?Sounds a lot like a special elite class with "mystical" knowledge to me.

A guy came out of his house with a shotgun and threatened to shoot me and my service partner. It seems his son had just started studying with JWs, and he was none too happy about it.

The purpose driven life?
by MelbaToast inok, just wanting to vent here for a minute..... for all that don't know me very well, i have been dfd for about 8 years now and am just starting to figure out where i want to be as far as from a religious standpoint.. now, i have started to delve back into research to mitigate the bible and early protestant v. catholics.
its pretty interesting, but i havent really set foot in any different churches for a while.
once in a while, we go down the street to my hubbys church where he grew up.

"I don't know what to tell her the next time I speak with her....should I tell her quit trying to push her "Purpose Driven LIfe" Book and come back to reality.....or just stick through it?"
You could get a copy of "Grace Awakening" by Charles Swindoll and suggest she read that. It emphasises the differences between legalism and grace, and how a few legalistic Christians are turning lots of folks away from Christianity altogether. It might be a remedy for being too angry to discuss the issue:) -

TV? What's that? I'm a pre-nursing student, lol.
I get a hoot out of watching my boys line up on the couch to watch the new show about nannies that go in to work with families on their "kid problems".I never would've imagined that would interest them. -

How do the Kigdom Melodies compare to Christendom's Songs?
by Honesty ini just have to comment about the canned wtbts music on cd the local congregations play on $150 cd players through $20 speakers set in the foamboard ceilings at their sales meetings worship services.
what a joke the music is that they use to sing praises.
the lyrics remind me of a high school pep rally with all the emphasis on 'we're joe hoba's witnesses and yada-yada-yah preaching from door to door and from house to house' or 'life everlasting in the pair-o-dice' crap that just tickles the dubbies ears so much they get all pretty and pink.

No real comparison, imho. There were a few Kingdom melodies I liked-there was one aimed at children, can't remember the name of it. We got the children in our congregatioin together to learn it. They sang it at a congregation get together. It was really cute:)
The first time I went to church, the congregation had a live piano performance, and a very good quartet singing. It was so beautiful, I cried.
I've been listening to Christian songs on the radio a lot lately, because I feel like I know so very little about them (my children tease me about my new obsession, lol). The different types of music alone is mind blowing to me. I'm still not sure about the difference between praise music, worship music, hymns, etc, lol.And now I know how newcomers at the kingdom hall felt when they were stumbling their way throught the songs. I know so few of them, and I used to go to church when I was a kid!
For those of you who like Amazing Grace, Tod Agnew has created a version of it called "Grace Like Rain". It's kind of "Amazing Grace" for the younger generation-a little more "edgy". I really like it. But I like the original version, too.
I like alot of the older hymns. The first one I really came to appreciate was "For the Beauty of the Earth." I heard that one on the movie "Little Women" (the one with Wynona Ryder), and fell in love with it. And I was JW then;)The cool thing is, the second time I set foot in a church after leaving the JWs, they sang that song.
Nowisee,
Yes, there was at least one more song book I know of. It was in use the whole time I was in, and had a tan cover. I believe they are still using it.
