the weather over here is nice, and i'm ready to cash my chips in and say that spring is officially here.
yesterday, i saw a spider, and i don't mind spiders, but he was a little healthier than typical, and i stepped on him, wiped the mess with a paper towel, and threw it in the rubbish.
this morning i got up and saw a ladybug on the wall.
LOL misery...and I thought I think too much. But really it is quite interesting.
I'd say culture has a lot to do with it…at least when it comes to what animals we eat. As for the bug thing…it comes down to appearances. Spiders are creepy looking, ladybugs are friendly looking. Snakes, sharks, cockroaches, rats…all have a bad rep in society. We can blame Jaws on the shark thing.
i think this was an uplifting and courageous video made by apple employees.
big thumbs up to apple for their courage in embracing their lgbt employees in this way.

it's tax weekend in the u.s.. for some goofy reason, income taxes are due monday instead of today.. for many, it's also the start of spring break.

Also, the long version is more prone to small personal interpretations, which the GB would sure like to eliminate.
Good point. I think, put simply: the simplified version reaches a broader audience while also tightening control. It's fast food mind control.

but... i have what i believe are a couple/few valid questions, so i must ask that you indulge me, if you can.
1. Are we still physically evolving (as the "evidence", if true, would logically indicate we would be)?
Yes we are still evolving, it is ongoing. As Pika_Chu pointed out, evolution doesn't make goals, nor does it work in the sense of foresight.
The signs of our continued evolution are all over us in vestigial features. Goose bumps are vestigial in humans, once useful for when we were covered in hair. But they serve no function anymore.
Wisdom teeth are vestigial. Back when our diets consisted more of vegetation we needed the extra molars to grind the food. Our jaws have evolved smaller, pushing out the extra molar or "wisdom teeth". Interestingly, 10% of humans are now born without wisdom teeth at all. That is evolution happening right there and now.

A good question...reading thru all the posts today about the new dumber version, I'm still not sure of the purpose.
They describe the simplified as just being simpler english. BUT it also could be described as being more direct and blunt in its message delivery.
Compare these two pull quotes from the article "God's Rest - What is It?" (regular) or "What is God's Rest?" (simplified)...
From the regular version:
"We can enter into Jehovah’s rest today by obediently working in harmony with his advancing purpose as it is revealed to us through his organization"
From the simplified version:
"We can enter into Jehovah’s rest if we obey him and work with his organization"
Saying the same thing, one is just more blunt and direct. I think it is a bit of trickery and misdirection to say the simplified version is for those with basic english skills. Could they be testing the waters of acceptance for this blunt version? Or a deliberate attempt to say they're "testing it".....but really they just plan to eliminate the regular and eventually make the blunt method default?
i like to perform "thinking experiments" like einstein use to do.
of course, he was better equipped for it than i am.

Berengaria already stated what my choice would be. Take the 50/50 chance that you'd kill the serial killer and save the 11, and countless others with the cancer cure.
Edit: From the OP...If the serial killer eliminates the research scientist there are untold numbers of cancer victims who will die agonizing slow deaths.
I take that to mean IF you don't kill either, the scientist WON'T get the cancer cure out to the world BEFORE the killer does him in. So it's worth the 50/50 try on getting the killer. Basically comes down to a 50/50 chance to cure cancer.
i was going to write this whole big thing regarding something that recently happened to me, but i wasn't sure how much feedback it would attract.

has anyone here ever voiced displeasure or experienced difficulties due to clearly rude, incompetant, greedy or otherwise inappropriate behavior from fellow jws, only to be told that you are simply being "tested"?.
I trusted a brother and friend to sell a vehicle for me while I was out of the country. Cash deal...$1100. He then was supposed to deposit it into my bank account. Never appeared. When I returned he swore he did it...but oddly couldn't find the deposit slip.
All in all...he stole the money. Others just told me, including my father/elder, that I shouldn't get stumbled by our imperfect brothers. Complete BS.
Many years later out of this Org I realized that the most morally bankrupt people I've ever known were JWs.
beginning with the july 15th 2011 edition of the watchtower, the society are producing a simplified version of the study copy.. this is apparantly for the many people whose first language is not english, and yet they live in a predominantly englsih speaking county.. the normal study edition will still be produced but it looks like the cong.
will be able to ask for a supply of the simplified version each month.. this simplified version can be downloaded from the watchtower site.. http://www.jw.org/index.html.
It's obvious that 'The Evil Sky' is a loose reference to Avatar...poster has a similar vibe. But the 'Running Duma' poster is less vague...actually its pretty much a direct reference of the actual movie 'Duma'. Odd that they won't directly reference the 'bad' movies - Avatar, but will directly endorse the 'good' movie - Duma.
