flipper...indeed I am. Was thrilled when I heard about it. Though just like anyone leaving, it hasn't been easy for her. Congrats on some of your family getting out. Our family is split as well...parents and 3 siblings are still in. But 4 of my other siblings have escaped. Am so grateful for that, they're my "real" family.

I'm proud to say my youngest sister, 17 yrs old, is one of them to leave. She took a stand last year and refused to continue to go to meetings. Some of the best news I'd heard in some time.
Edit to add: I asked her how she came to that decision. Interestingly, she said she can remember thinking it was a bunch of hogwash as far back as age 10. I thought "the Force is strong with this one". Took me until my mid-20s to start thinking for myself.

To Serenity Now and Unshakled: My husband and I are roughly the same age of your parents. We were both 3rd generation and true believers. We have been phsycally out a couple of yrs beginning with illness and depression. However, we have been mentally out only a couple of weeks. This site did the trick because of threads and posters like this .
3rdgen...thanks for posting that and congrats on getting out. Guess there's no point in giving up hope others may come to their senses, including parents in later stages of their life.

My mom is only 64 but leaving would likely kill her. She really has nothing else in her life

that's between 500 and 1700 children a day, depending on what numbers you accept.

i really am... just been attacked for posting on a dog rescue picture.
the dog was in a rta and as i was eating my dinner and couldn't see the pictures, heading or comments regarding the dog properly i posted that it could be ''dog bait injuries''... which in the area i live is a nasty problem which is rearing it's ugly head.
dogs are being stolen from back gardens to be used as bait.

instead of scouring its pages, which i have seen many drift off into madness doing, i have tried to take steps back and examine the whole.
my jehovahs witness background gives me a good understanding of the biblical narrative in general, even though i have rejected their doctrines.
Seeing the world with 'doom and gloom' goggles is a byproduct of JW indoctrination. I'm with cofty on this one, things are not getting worse.
As for the Bible, I still find it agonizing to try and read it. Proverbs is borderline bearable, but even at that, Dr. Phil could have written it.
i can't say my life was ruined because i was a witness.
still, i wish that my upbringing was different.
there's a lot i don't like at all about the witnesses but by the same token, there are some very good people who happen to be jws.. i'm sure some of you hated your life as a witness and i'm sure you have valid reasons..

You're right PSac...you don't seem like yourself today. I know what you're getting at but why point out what you see as a negative tone for the thread, and then proceed to take part using the same said negative tone?
Edit: But I hear ya on the "very long and painful week". It's Friday...this is a good thing. T minus 3.5 hrs to the weekend.
