I've heard that another 2 people have left the "Truth" as soon as they could get out. both girls were elder's daughters. They aren't elders now because they were somewhat problem teens. Now, they're older and no longer JWs.

This is a dying cult.

Not sure if I would use the word dying, but I think the GB is going to do some 'right sizing' and the organization will pull back to a smaller organization of jw zealots, pretty much cull out anyone who is not fully on board - and then in order to gain cash flow, I think new light will eventually come that is somewhat along the lines of tithing.

IMHO they are having issues controlling information flow with the internet, texting and all other methods of communication that are out there. I think there is some risk in the way they are having folks pull down the WTs and Awakes off the JW website, because one could always end up looking at other web pages and information.

I think unless there are disasters which really seem to excite the leadership, hence exciting the rank and file, the growth rate in the developed countries will be stagnant if not negative. Growth will happen in the 'global south' where the cash just is not there to fund the orgs bank accounts.

I fear the death throws will be very drawn out. I doubt I'll be here when it eventually draws its last breath.

Can u imagine as a young one how difficult it is to stay in this cult. Let's go down the no list.

NO:

outside friends, sometimes even JW friends from outside the cong are fround upon.

School activities

Serious education. Just get a D- in everything or take the high school equivalency test.

Your parent might let u die if u are seriously injured. No Blood

Good chance you will grow up in poverty. Mom and Dad can't work too much. They have to keep Kingdom interests in mind.

Knocking on doors in the same neighborhood as your school mates is humiliating. I heard this alot from the young ones.

Dating. Sorry can't even choke the chicken. so there's a good chance you will marry the 1st person that will have you just to get laid.

IMHO, most of the people who are no longer JWs are still mentally captive to the concept that WT is God's Organization, and therefore suffer the effects of living in fear of dying at Armageddon. They may also feel unworthy of being someone who God loves.

Deconstructing the cult experience is hard work and it takes time. Battling irrational fears is not easy work, for most.

And, how many return to the cult years later? How many of those that leave the WTBTS, spend years thinking that something is wrong with them, and not getting therapy or venting about their experiences on forums like JWN to rid themselves of the WTBTS induced phobias? What can exJWs do to help that 67% to live fulfilling and happy lives outside of the WTBTS and not go back because of meeting a JW BF/GF or becoming tired of shunning by JW family and friends?
