Funny Coincidences
by the-illuminator81 inso three days ago i had a dream about a female classmate, who i haven't seen for about 10 years and haven't thought about either.
i can't even remember her surname and i was never really interested in her either.
it was very weird, i dreamt that she was wearing a bathing suit and she asked me how it looked on her.

by trailerfitter inhi, this is my first post on this forum although i have been reading many posts on here.
i feel safe enough to ask your advice and become involved now......from what i have learned about this forum it is occupied by sensible people who have left the watchtower influences for one reason or another.
i am, for want of a better word, a none believer.

Hi mr TF and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately for you, you are in big trouble. Trying to wean your wife from the organization will be a long, tiring process and there is no magic argument you can throw at her to make her wake up.
When I was still in, there was nothing anybody could say to make me leave. I only woke up after intensely studying the bible by myself and thinking about the horrifying injustice dealt by God and thinking "Hmm.. couldn't he have decided to do it some other, less violent way?" After that I was ready to confront the doubts that had been lingering in my mind for years.
I would recommend reading "Releasing the Bonds" by Steve Hassan, a cult specialist. He has many years of experience freeing people out of cults, including JWs. One time, he hired a JW translator for a seminar in Germany. After the seminar, the JW translator realized he was a member of a dangerous mind-control cult and left. The book was written for people like you.
Also, you can learn more about your wife's religion at jwfacts.com, an excellent site.
Another piece of advice, dicussing doctrine almost never works and will only push your wife further into defending the organization.

So three days ago I had a dream about a female classmate, who I haven't seen for about 10 years and haven't thought about either. I can't even remember her surname and I was never really interested in her either. It was very weird, I dreamt that she was wearing a bathing suit and she asked me how it looked on her. We also hugged eachother. And she was a lot thinner than she used to be in school.
Whaddyaknow, yesterday I was at the beach and who do I see? The girl from my dreams! She wasn't wearing a bathing suit at the time though. But she was a lot thinner!
So am I prescient or what? It's strange because over the last couple of years I almost never remember my dreams at all.
Also, when I logged on to JWN this morning, my captcha was JHWH. Isn't that funny? Evidently God is toying with me.

Oh the weirdness: Observations from a study
by howdidtihappen ini started studying jw with a work friend because she used to keep me at arms length and i knew it was because of her religion.
she and her family are such lovely people so i thought maybe there was something to it, how bad can it be, etc.
i was enticed by this girls friendship as she has been spending more time with me but continues to say "you're not one of us yet" which continually freaks me out.

A rich brother can stumble other brothers in the congregation if he drives an expensive car.
You will be told that your family is a tool Satan uses to persecute you. Once your family sees you behaving strangely because you are becoming a JW, they will tell you to stop. You will think "Wow, Satan really is using my family against me! I better spend less time with those worldly people." You might even think it's a prophecy being fulfilled.

A Point Djeggnog Missed...
by Cameron_Don ina while back djeggnog said to me.... "evidently you want the readers of your book to believe what jehovah's witnesses believe[d] (down till 1919) to be a matter of embracing the beliefs of these dead men (russell and rutherford).
but jehovah's witnesses embrace[d] the teachings of jesus christ, our living lord.".
"captives of a concept" presents 48 examples where jehovah's witnesses (bible students) did in fact embrace the beliefs of the now dead men russell and rutherford.

Try talking to a real live JW, feels much like talking with DJEggNog on this forum. An exercise in futility. They will red herring you until they get dizzy and then they claim "Well we're just going around in circles now". Yeah we are, because you dodge the questions all the time. Even thinking about it makes me frustrated.

How long into the future do you feel it will take before the majority of mankind give up on "God" to solve their problems?
by StoneWall ini mean the above question out of sincerity and honesty and not trying to belittle anyones beliefs or lack there of.. my point is if armageddon don't happen or the rapture within the next 1000 years or so, how long will man keep holding out hope for a divine being, whether it be jesus, jehovah, allah or "fill in the blank" to come and solve all the problems?.
do you feel that there is a timetable of any sort?.
if god hasn't manifested himself/herself/itself in say 5000 years from now to all mankind, do you think the majority at that time will still be clinging to a belief in a higher power if nothing at all has changed as far as their "appearing, coming, calling us to them etc."?.

I think it will be quicker than you think, i would say within a 100 years there will be less then 10% theists.

Iron Chariots
by Mickey mouse inwith thanks to stephen fry for pointing this site out on twitter http://wiki.ironchariots.org/index.php?title=main_page.
iron chariots is intended to provide information on apologetics and counter-apologetics.
we'll be collecting common arguments and providing responses, information and resources to help counter the glut of misinformation and poor arguments which masquerade as evidence for religious claims.. the complexity of issues surrounding religion ensures that any proper assessment requires us to delve into a number of philosophical, historical and sociological topics.

So what do we do when Armageddon comes? Hide in your car! Just make sure you don't have one of those new high-tech aluminum or carbon-fibre sportscars and you'll be fine.

Do JW Organization Mistakes Matter?
by InterestedOne inafter reading what concerned jw has to say, i gather that for him, if the jw organization is currently making any mistakes, those mistakes do not matter and are not worth naming, not even one.
i am completely baffled by this and would like to understand why a person would take this position.
concerned jw, can you please explain why you take this position?
-
the-illuminator81
I held the exact same position as CJW when I was still in. The mistakes did not matter because it was expected that they would make mistakes because they are fallible. When I was still a full believer I was aware of many mistakes and there were many parts of the doctrine I did not agree with. Now that would make them equal to any other religion. So we mix two other arguments in. One, they were chosen by God in 1919 and two they are closer to bible truth than any other religion. That way you can use the "but the light gets brighter" and "but where else can we go" thought stoppers to prevent anyone from losing their faith.
Once you come to realize that they were not chosen and the bible is a pile of crap, then they fall back to being like any other religion and you are ready to leave.

A concerned JW wrote "mistakes will happen."
by InterestedOne inin the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/213523/1/feeling-a-bit-alienated, concerned jw wrote:.
mistakes will happen.
concerned jw, if mistakes will happen, i was wondering what mistakes you feel the jw organization is currently making?
-
the-illuminator81
I think what Concerned JW is trying to tell us is that there are two kinds of mistakes
1. Mistakes that identify you as part of babylon the great whore, ready to be annihilated at Armageddon
2. Mistakes that don't matter because they're made by fallible men
Now we have established this, let's invite CJW to tell us the difference between mistake number 1 and mistake number 2.
