No shortage of prophecy
by jean-luc picard init is easy to understand why some could have nagging doubts when seeing world events.. "maybe it is the truth after all?".
i came accross this site http://www.prophecynewswatch.com and realise ( well i knew already) that there is no shortage of prophecy, or prophets.. in 1970, i was just a boy, i remember hearing on the radio.
"by 1978 there will be no water left that is fit enough to drink, but we shouldnt worry because by 1977 the air will no longer support human life".

Walkill Bethel Recreational Facility
by dontplaceliterature inmy wife and i just visited some friends over the weekend from another congregation.
these two are both full time pioneers, and also participate in various construction projects around the country.
the husband just got back from a 3 week trip to walkill, new york to help with construction on a new residence building at 'the farm' (does anyone call it that anymore?)..

How to be a Christian:

How do JW's know that the GB is getting closer to the truth?
by Mad Dawg intheir claim, to cover up changed teachings, is that they are always getting closer to the truth.
how do we know that the gb is closer now than they were 50 or a hundred years ago?
how do we know that the gb hasn't been drifting away for the last 50 years?.

If I was mister Unthank I would pursue to force all baptized witnesses to get this card, since they are all 'ordained ministers' and they all have unsupervised contact with children. If they are out in field service, they are volunteering, and they have contact with children at the door, so every publisher needs this card!
It would be so nice if they get forced into this, and then a large percentage can't go to the KH anymore because they have a bad history. If an elder can't keep his hands off a kid, swoosh, off he goes never to be seen again! One can only hope that more countries will start adopting a similar system.
Hopefully many JWs will feel betrayed and wake up when they see certain elders disappear in this manner.

They know that the GB are getting closer to the truth, because
A) The GB tells them (indoctrination)
B) They hear this message repeated multiple times every week by everyone they know (brainwashing)
C) They have to agree or else they have wasted many years following liars (you don't leave a large investment)
D) They have to agree or else Jehovah will destroy them at Armageddon (fear)
E) They have to agree or their family and friends will no longer talk to them (social pressure)

is this true?
i can't remember any account of lands being returned and slaves being freed etc.

To me it seems that 1 king 19 refers to a sabbath year, not a jubilee year? But thanks for the tip.
I haven't had time to really research this matter, but to me it seems like more evidence that the israelites were just as godless as the heathens surrounding them. They didn't listen to the law at all, unless a king loyal to Jehovah forced them to. Then after the king died, they went back to worshipping baal.
Funny that God's blessed communication channel has such a big problem with basic timekeeping arithmetic. It's not rocket science!

Now that you mention it, it does seem like normal farming practice, like rotating the crops between different fields. But the jubilee year should also entail the return of lands to the original owner and slaves being freed. And that just never happened. The sabbath year had to apply to all fields, not just some.

I'm Starting To Understand Atheist and Evolution
by Philadelphia Ponos infor many years i was sincerely perplexed when someone told me they believed in the evolution theory or were an atheist.
i never understood how someone could ignore all the evidence for intelligent design and overlook all the holes in the evolution theory.
for example, the human biology clock is synced with the rotation of the earth, the earth is the perfect distance away from the sun to sustain life, the earth has an ozone layer to protect us from the sun's radiation, the earth naturally produces fruits and vegetables to be used for food, our bodies produce enzymes to break down the fruits and vegetables so it can nourish us, the earth produces water and oxygen, etc.
