I do respect this board, that is why I registered to post in the first place. I am with you concerning some of the benefits. I also express my thoughts pretty energetically sometimes. It's a flaw of sorts. But yes, some of the work here is life-saving.

The End of the System of Things has happened several times in several places (the Americans lost Vietnam, Saddam's regime ended, the British Empire bit the dust, Madoff went to jail, etc.). All those were "systems of things". Now, if anyone believed 1975 or any of such crackpot prophecies, they needed somewhere to hang their faith and hope. They did and felt good while it lasted. They got disappointed in the end as they were wont to. That to is a "system of things" attached to blind faith. For some, the price has been high - but it is all occupational really. You go to war, you are likely to take a bullet or even die.
Honest, illusion helps us all make it through to another day, week, month, year.

Not worth the trouble. Been on a good number of big boards before (then H2O with "heavyweights" like AF, Gedanken, COMF, etc.) where it was a joy to. This board is the most unbalanced by a long shot, filled to the brim with the walking dead. I read you all and I wonder: why would people moan so much. The WT Bitch, of course! It did you all in - or perhaps you all did yourselves in. In the end, most posters here are slaves of their WT past of their own device. In fact, they have become more enslaved to the WT after leaving. Or they have chosen other masters (Dawkins, Darwin) to whom they devote more energy than is reasonable. They lavish in their newfound "joy" of embracing agnosticism and atheism. Something says it is all fake, overall. If you are happy, you would be quiet or less rambunctious. Most here are not. Even the most trivial of issues are made to look grand. The French have a name for it: "la folie de grandeur". It is all sad. With all due respect, most here need a life!

Islam is built on the koran and the hadiths (or teachings of the Prophet). Interpretation is quite elastic, especially of the second. Although islam teaches tolerance towards "people of the book [scriptures]" - meaning those practising Christianity and Judaism, that does not extend to proselytism.
In whatever form it is read, islam has used cohesion (including the threat of death) from the start to keep believers in check. If many muslims had the choice, they would stop practising. Where I live, the young generation has all but abandoned the faith but keeps to tradition (major observances). Prayers are still called five times a day (that too is tradition). In truth though, most do not care.

A waste of time, in my view. It won't cut with JWs - and other people have already made up their mind on what to believe. Time spent doing this could have been more usefully employed serving some charity organization.

Most countries where islam is the dominant religion do not accept conversion from islam to any other faith. Usually, persecution follows conversion (loss of employment, police harassment, family disowns convert).
I live in a "moderately" islamic country, so I know.
