A Fond Farewell
by 5thGeneration ini want to take this opportunity to say goodbye to all of the members on jwn and thank you for your support over the years.. circumstances have arisen that make it impossible for me to continue posting here.. i have truly appreciated your love and support during some hard times when i had no one else to talk to.. you showed compassion and a non-judgmental, christlike attitude for thoughts and feelings that could not be openly expressed to any of the brothers in the congregation for fear of reprisal.
for that, i am so grateful!.
thanks to the many of you that could relate to the pain and worthlessness that i have felt about myself for so many years because of my experiences and upbringing in the truth.

@Quillsky,
Suicide note? Perish the thought! Thanks for making me really worry now. I hope 5th really IS okay.
We are grieving the departure of a valued forum member and then you just tramp in here, foaming at the mouth with your usual WT inspired tripe! And you say you're not a troll?
HOW DARE YOU! You'd better hope no one here finds out where you live!

A couple of commonly used abbreviations which are actually Latin phrases, used interchangeably when they shouldn't be:
Latin
Translation
Notes
exempli gratia (e.g.)
for the sake of example
Usually shortened in English to 'for example'. Often confused with id est (i.e.). Exempli gratia, 'for example', is commonly abbreviated 'e.g.'; in this usage it is sometimes followed by a comma, depending on style.
id est (i.e., or ie.)
that is
"That is (to say)" in the sense of "that means" and "which means", or "in other words", or sometimes "in this case", depending on the context; may be followed by a comma, or not, depending on style (American English and British English respectively). It is often misinterpreted as "in example". In this situation, e.g. should be used instead.

When men were made Elders, did you notice their personality change?
by carvin ini thought about this after reading flippers thread about how elders are appointed.
great thread by the way.. i can recall many times when guys were made elders, and sometimes even made ms that their personility would change almost over night.
i knew many nice, kind, elders and ms but many especially newly appionted ones would be, at times, just difficult to be around.

You don't even have to become an elder for it to do things to you. I saw the "changes" when my brother-in-law became a MS. He was lot more easy going than he is now. He has become much more judgemental, self-righteous and even more easily offended than before.
My sister just had a baby with him a year ago and I fear for the future of both my sister and the child, especially if he does move on to becoming an elder.
I fear the possibility that my BIL might get sucked into being so busy that he neglects his family.
I fear the possibilty that he'll become a heartless tyrant towards my sister, his son and others.
I fear what becoming an elder might do to him yet.
I fear what might happen to my sister's marriage one day.
It breaks my heart.

My deepest sympathies...
I can totally relate to your being "turned off with religion". It's been over a year since I've seen the inside of a KH and I'm still feeling very lost and not knowing what to believe about God. I just can't stomach the thought of being in any organized religious group. As PSacramento alluded to, the only threads of hope I have left are believing in human kindness and love, at least for now. I'll admit that even my faith in those is tenuous at best, but if those are gone, what is there to live for? I hope you still at least have that. Take care.

Once a cheater, always a cheater
by Quillsky inif you discover, while getting to know a potential partner, that they have cheated on a previous partner........ don't touch them.
run run run.. in my opinion a cheat remains a cheat.
opportunity is the variable.. please discuss..

Sorry all for the change in my post. I lost what I originally wanted to say in a browser crash. Sorry for the seeming flip flop of opinion.
I do think a person can only cheat once, but I also think that most people cheat. We aren't naturally monogamous creatures.
I'm sorry but I think that line of reasoning is utterly asinine. I've heard it way too many times before. If monogamy is so contrary to human nature, then WHY THE HELL DOES IT HURT SO BAD WHEN A RELATIONSHIP FAILS? Sorry for the shouting. But really, why is there so much pain when you have to end a relationship? Think about that for a minute... Thought about it? Good.
First of all, it has been scientifically proven that there is wiring inside the human brain that makes monogamy - for lack of a better way to put it - feel good. When things are done to short circuit this wiring, things go very wrong and a person will feel bad, awful, depressed, what name you. It has also been proven that children brought into this world need both a father and a mother in a stable relationship for their optimum development. IF the parental relationship goes wrong, was never "right" in the first place or is incomplete (single parenthood), then emotional, mental, social and intellectual development will be compromised. The result? The kids usually going "wrong", becoming delinquent. We've all seen and heard about it all around us. It goes all the way down the line.
Furthermore, it has been scientifically documented that there are species of birds and mammals that make only one pair-bond for life. "But we're not birds, but apes", you say? We were created (humor me please) with genetic aspects similar to that of many species. For example: because we have relatively bare pink skin, we have almost as much genetically in common with swine as we do with apes.
I'll admit that there is also some wiring inside the human brain that manifests itself in tendencies towards infidelity, the "instinctual spreading of genes" thing. There is one more piece to the puzzle. The human intellect. It gives us the unique ability to plan our actions with the future in mind. We can use it to decide between what is beneficial or detrimental to our self interest or the interests of others.
We thus come to the matter of choice. I think the real issue when it comes to cheating is whether or not a person is able to make good choices throughout life. Cheating is usually the result of a long string of bad choices a person makes throughout life, like who to be friends with, where to live, where to find employment, who to marry, when to marry, how to spend money, when to have children, where and how to raise them, etc. Sure, cheating is often a result of desperation, but what poor choices led the person there? Sometimes a person marries another because they've been deceived by the other about certain things. This is a truly unfortunate thing for the person being deceived and the person doing the deceiving deserves to rot in hell, so to speak. (I don't really believe in hell, just saying.) What is the vaccine against such tragedies? Learning to make better choices than one has made previously.
We finally get down to the moral character of a person. A person could make poor choices because of medical issues, emotional issues, mental illness, poor education or simply because they are morally defective. The ones who are truly lacking in character can sometimes change but not usually. These are the kinds of cheaters who are truly "once a cheater, always a cheater". These ones are the scum of the earth everyone should avoid.
Thankyou,

You're leaving? Just like that? I wish you'd give us more of an explanation. You got me and a whole lot of others here really worried now! Did you get busted by the elders or something? Man, I hate to see you go, and leaving us hanging like this. Don't stay away too long. And as OnTheWayOut said, get some outside help ASAP.

Psychopathy and Corporations
by Aussie Oz ini remember seeing a documentary a while ago about how legally, corporations are a 'person' and as such demonstrate a psychopathic personality.. the author of the book it was based on profiled criminal psychopaths and corporations and found them to be of the same mentality and motive of operation.. anyone else remember this?.
i feel it goes a long way to demonstrate why the watchtower corporation(s) has become the monster it is and why acts as it does, why it matters not what any individual or group thinks and why it will stomp on people to stay in its power.. the articals are pretty long but the links should start you off!.
i am really interested to know what others think.... http://www.cqs.com/psycho.htm.

Applying "The Corporation" treatment to the WTS? Hmmmm... interesting...
Seems to fit, but we've got different dynamics here when we're talking about the WTBTS, don't we? It's a non-profit, in theory at least. Workers are volunteers, not employees, again in theory. Who would the shareholders be? I suppose it is a private corp. Where's all the money? Who uses/controlls it and to what end? Where does it all go? Have they just picked up and left workers jobless and stranded? I don't know. They don't care about people much, that's for sure.
With Scientology I definitely see it. It totally is about money and profit. The way scieno leadership goes about things, it's hard to hide that. Scieno's are defintely scary for sure. I guess the WTS just keeps a lower profile.
Just thinking out loud...

One more post here:
clarity, it's nice to see you back. I can harldy wait 'till things start to happen with the get-together. Swap some stories, drink a few and a few and a few and get . Maybe not quite THAT crazy. You get the drift. Anyhoo. PM = personal message. Ya, it's kinda like email, just that it's like a forum post that only you and the other person can see. BTTT = back to the top, meaning that the OP or others are not getting the amount of reponse to the topic as they'd like, so they make a short posting of BTTT to bump the message to the top of the active list. A.K.A. the "bump".
misguided, you have a PM. EDIT: I forgot to ask you if anything happened in Calgary. Did a get together work out there? Is it still on? Lemme know.
OUTLAW, I haven't had the privelege of swapping words with you yet. I heard you're from B.C. also. You still here? Come on over, party animal.
