i often wonder if the borg have any clue as to what that really means.
it's bad enough that they stick thier noses into your personal beliefs, but it's even worse when they nose into your personal business that has nothing to do with belief.. case in point: my mother would get into my face anytime she found out about any run-ins i had with traffic cops, be it speeding, using a radar detector, fender benders, etc.
That depends on whether you expect 'Mom' to bail you our or not...doesn't have anything to do with 'The Borg'...
No, I never did expect anyone to bail me out of anything, not even my parents. I will accept full responsibility for my own actions and that is that. I hate it when others go beyond that, thinking they have to take resposibility for the actions of others who should know better...

i really enjoyed his first book, 'the end of faith'.
harris: morality must relate, at some level, to the well-being of conscious creatures.
But I don't think that the road to hell canbe paved with good intentions, regardless of our belief in Hell, it doesn't seem like a palce for people with good intentions that went ary.
I don't think the saying refers to the actions of any one individual going awry leading them to "hell", but the collective actions of humanity as a whole. JMHO.

This book definitely sounds good. I do firmly believe that there have to be rational explanations for our moral beliefs. If we just moralize for morality's sake, it's utterly disgusting hypocrisy and this is one of the things that sickens me about religious fundamentalism the most.

i think we all are on journey's and it takes a lot to get to where we are going.
Maybe that's why being a JW made me ill. I've always strived to be honest with myself. I'm the type who wears my heart on my sleeve; I'm not very good at hiding my feelings. When you're one of the Borg, you're expected to put on a mask, a mask that I never wore very well. It seems to me that if you're not happy-crappy all the time, other Borg start pulling away from you. Perhaps that's why I was never overly popular?
