Band on the Run - I posted on the two other threads concerning this. You can't target one religion. The Catholic Church, Protestants, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. will stop it.

I'm still waiting for you and other people who have expressed their objections to the White House petition in the aforementioned threads to ask me any clarifying questions about what I wrote. If you want to know what a dangerous cult is, please read any of Steve Hassan's books (i.e., "Combatting Cult Mind Control" and "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Speak for Themselves"). Why do you continue to say NO, NO, NO to this petition, instead of engaging in a dialogue about how to write a better petition encase 25,000 people do not sign this petition on or before May 26th. If 25,000 people do not sign the petition by May 26th, I plan to submit another petition that is better than the 1st.

To everyone else, I would encourage anyone with objections about this petition, would like to learn more about what consitutes a dangerous cult, and/or would like to know how a law might be implemented to protect Americans' freedom of religion and speech to read the aforementioned threads. Personally, I like the idea that religions must do something charitable that benefits individuals and society besides spread religious doctrines. I didn't write the petition to pick on only religious organizations, because a dangerous cult can also be a non-religious organization according to Steve Hassan.

Good job garbonzo (and/or garbonzo607)!!

Promoting this petition is a good way to start educating people so that they discuss how detrimental shunning is to people and society, and how to discourage using it.

In the April 1887 Watchtower magazine on page 923 Pastor C.T. Russell, the founder of the WB&TS, was against shunning members and wrote “With the implied threat of disfellowship, they urge their ministers and students not to search continually for truth, but to accept the voice of their sect as infallible." Please read the article http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/disfellowship-shunning.php on ww.jwfacts.com to learn how the WTBTS Presidents (Knorr and Freddie Franz) probably started using shunning to control dissention by top leaders in the WTBTS.

How many other doctrines did Freddie Franz help create to alienate JWs from "Worldly" people?

Since a former friend tried to recruit me into the WTBTS, I have been wondering if the WTBTS helped JWs learn how to be supportive of other people and their opinions? How has your JW experiences affected how you behave now to other people in person or in on-line support forums?

Hi Jam, I'm sorry about your sitution. Your daughter seems like a courageous person. Congradulations on deflecting your SIL question(s) with the generational question. JWs don't know who to answer questions that they have not be trained to answer by the WTBTS.

Hello... this is me and my story...

i was raised as a jw, baptized in a 1998 district convention, somewhere in portugal.. studying with jws had some positive things (not many... just a few).

i learned to read before going to school and developed this excelent skill of reading, interpreting and resuming texts.

i was an excellent student.. as a teenager my life sucked (and i considered it a "privilege" at that time) because i simply couldn't enjoy these best years of my life, because had to avoid all contact with people of my age (there were no young people in my congregation) so i lived the best years of my life as a "forever alone".

Have you read Raymond Franz's books (i.e., "Crisis of Conscience" and "In Search of Christian Freedom")? Steve Hassan's books may help you communicate better with your JW family members' cult personas, and Don Cameron's and Raymond Franz's books may help you with awakening your wife.

Exit Strategy - My plan to leave

i've been intellectually awake for about three years now.

it's taken me time but i've figured out an exit strategy to leave the jw's as frictionless as possible.

it's impossible to leave with my dignity in tact but, leaving will be worth it.

Moshe - It is interesting to see how many people approve of a plan that calls for a adult son to mooch off his parents for 8 years, all the while while pretending to be a JW in order to get something that he would not be entitled to by being a truthful person. I know I wouldn't be a happy parent once I discovered I had been deceived and my financial assets had been purloined by means of trickery. Eight years worth of deceit to your parents? Pulling that off takes a lot of gall. Here is another enlightened JW who needs to man it up and go join the military.

Hi Moshe, How do you know that FrankWTower? If FrankWTower would be mooching off his parents, he could probably get a degree in the 4-5 years by going to college full-time.

Great plan FrankWTower, except for marrying a JW. Enjoy your life as much as you can away from the WTBTS and JWs.

If your parents give you any grief about going to school, tell them that you what to be able to raise a family and help them in their old age, because the WTBTS changed its generational teachings.

the irs will investigate complaints about the wtbts, but it will not investigate the wtbts without compliants being sent to the irs.

Band on the Run - Netflix had a cheaper European production miniseries of the Borgias. It was bad but I sat through all the episodes. Go figure. Jeremy Irons is worth whatever they are paying him.

Hi Band on the Run, I know what you mean about watching poorly made movies on T.V. I do it sometimes myself. I sometimes wonder if I do it because it is late and I am bored, or that my brain just needs to watch something mindless so that my subconcious can work on some issue that is bugging me.

From what I have read about the Borgias, SHO would not have to fictionalize it very much. Members of that family did some pretty unbelievable and horrific things in their pursuit of power over their perceived enemies.

Band on the Run - A Bible Student - I merely wanted to let you know the legal and political realities of tax exemption. I agree that religion and government often combine with political ends. Certainly this has been the ongoing case with the Pope and Roman Catholic Church. I'm watching the Borgias on SHO with Jeremy Irons as the Borgia pope. Rick Santorum's candidacy emphasizes this trend.

Hi Band on the Run, How would you rate the writing, directing, and acting of the Borgias? As a kid I loved to read all kinds of history. I remember that the Borgas were beyond bad almost approaching evil.

Band on the Run and Sic Semper Tyrannis you both have raised valid points. I won't say which points were valid because in my opinion you both may be past the point of agreeing to disagree with each other or to write about something that you both can agree with.

I wish that I could write something that would make you both feel appreciated and valued.
