I sent postcards to some JWs at my old KH today.

you know the typicial big postcards that we floridians like to send to folks up north in the winter- palm trees, beaches, girls in bikinis--.

i haven't talked to these two brothers since when i left the kh (in 1988).

i just wanted them to know i turned out better than fine, with a nice retirement and a new family.

i visit this site often for various reasons, above all to see the opinions of those in regards to their present state in life in relation to past or present tendencies in thinking (religious, morals, etc).. i had not found anything constructive or worthy of adding to this conversation but for one reason or another here i am doing so now.

i am presently an active jw member.

i believe that our faith provides a haven or parameters from which members can significantly obtain structure and order in many different ways.

Monsieur - abiblestudent,
not to argue with your honest 'take' on the subject, but God not 'approving' doesn't really add up to anything anymore. i too had a strong attachment to your ideas regarding God's interventions or lack thereof. Yet how ironic that as a jw my 'beef' isn't with some organization or some group of men, rather it's with God.
Because ultimately man is almost totally useless in his desire and effort to 'build up and mend'. Yet it was God who created Earth and put man in it. I feel that somewhere along the way the idea of 'accountability' became lost on God. If EArth was a trully and simply a 'test', I don't believe (or I'm having an incredibly difficult time accepting) that witnessing the sorry and violent effects of man's hatred was suppose to feel this terrible, much less experiencing it. Besides, for whom is this 'testing' going on? Those that are simply witnessing the misfortune, surviving it? Where is the sense of justice in that? If this is so, than we trully are not equal, though we be all human.
Did God really decide who would be tested and who would be the victim of such 'test'?

Hi Monsieur, I do not believe that I wrote or implied that God is not 'approving'. That sounds like something a JW would think.

What I wrote or meant for you to understand was that many humans blame God, question God for doing all the bad things in life, or for not preventing bad things, such as earthquakes, wars, etc. How many times in your life have you prayed for God to help you spiritually and felt better afterwards? If you believe in God, isn't praying to him and feeling better afterwards a good thing? Jesus Christ taught his disciples to love God and each other; and to believe in Truth and compassion, and not hypocracy, fear, greed, envy, etc.

Flipper gave you good advice, " Just enjoy yourself as an authentic human and be good to others you love - friends and others - your answers will come from within you and acceptance of all that YOU are in your personal experience and journey called life. "

Life is not black or white as you learned from the WTBTS. There can be more than two perspectives about a tragedy. I feel that 911 was a tragedy, but I was also amazed by how many people came together to help those who were adversely affected by 911 and many people seemed to treat other people better. People behaved more caring for about 2 months before they started to fall back into there old ways. But, for 2 months something good came out of something tragic.

Hi El_Guapo and welcome, I hope that you are busy making new non-JW friends, because it appears like you will be losing JW friends and family rather quickly if you keep missing meetings. By the way how is your diabetes? I would never recommend lying, but it wouldn't be lying to say that you have diabetes and are having very serious health concerns (such as can't see going to meetings).

Hi CADSkin, I am sorry to her about your mother's situation and experiences with the elders. It sounds like she needs psychological counseling. I would visit Steve Hassan's website and locate a Cult counselor near her, who can also help her deal with her husband's infidelity.

Welcome Monsieur to JWN. I'm sorry that you are feeling so many doubts about Our Father in Heaven. Some people on JWN believe in no God or maybe there is a God, some in the WTBTS, some in some other diety, and others believe in Jesus Christ and what he taught.

By the way are you French?

Since you believe in God, why do you blame him for all of man's transgressions? The WTBTS has taught you how to believe in Jehovah's Organization and its leaders and not Our Father in Heaven. Jesus Christ even warned his followers about false prophets (i.e., Mathew 7:15-20). Although people are doing horrible things to other people in Sryia now and other places in the World, mankind doing horrible acts does not mean that Our Father in Heaven approves. If I remember correctly, the Sryian people just wanted to protest peacefully, but Assad's forces started killing protestors.

People also do wonderful acts in the World. Hopefully, Our Father in Heaven will help you to see the beauty in life and help you to change how mankind treats each other for the better. Sometimes bad things happen to very innocent people, so speakout when you see it.

H'mmm Steven UnThank would have a field day with the Royal Commission showing them about government failures with enforcing the Victorian Child Protection Laws in regards to the WTBTS.

All the WTBTS would have to do is change its policy of reporting child abuse and molestation to the legal department before reporting to the law enforcement. That's not going to happen because the WTBTS is a DANGEROUS CULT!!

One experience in our old Kingdom Hall that still HAUNTS me

the following is a true experience and my daughter gojira101 will verify that it happened to her.

an experience from our family's past that still haunts me and started my questioning whether this is the true organization of god or not.. my daughter, who has always been a good kid, never gave us any problems [she's an adult now] started regular pioneering.

within a few weeks of her starting, she fell on a steep hill and tore open her knee and had to have several stitches.

You got to give credit to the WTBTS leaders for creating the best BITE control to victimize JWs. What is obvious to most people in the World, is not for JWs. The WTBTS is a dangerous cult that uses BITE control on JWs!!

Elders finally took me to the back room...

after several months of leaving the meetings as soon as they ended or only staying for "the first meeting" then leaving the "second part", the elders finally cornered me at last night's meeting.. they said they were concerned about me and that being that i am a young brother in a recently divided congregation they saw so much potential in me to help out the congregation and become a ms.. i told them i was thankful for their thinking of me to help the congregation but that at the moment i could not due to my job.

then the began asking personal questions that got on my nerves.. they asked where i worked and how much i made.

they asked if i was going to college and what i was studying and for how long.

Hi OneDayillBeFree, Sorry about the elders asking you so many personal questions. What are your reasons for staying in the WTBTS? Is it family or friends? If friends, you should spend more time making new non-JW friends. If family, how many family members are JWs and do you have any non-JW family members who you could enlist to help your JW family members to awaken.

Have you read any of Steve Hassan's books ( (i.e., "Combatting Cult Mind Control", "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves", and "Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones to Leave Controlling People, Cults, and Organizations") or visited his website? Reading Steve Hassan's "Freedom of Mind" book would at least help you awaken JWs who you care about before the elders get more concerned.

nice to meet you all.

long time lurker, but now i can get my twopenneth in.. a brief history.. born into the religion, but it never really took hold - thankful for an easily bored mind and strong, worldly grandparents.. never very interested - dragged from meeting to field service.

in the teenage years i wanted university and my parents want a pioneer.

Welcome Braehead to JWN. I am glad that your parents do not blindly follow the WTBTS on everything and that you are able to have a relationship with them.

The WTBTS is not a religion. It is a printing, print distribution, and reality holding corporation that victimizes its members with BITE control techniques.
