Can someone refresh my memory please? What is the scripture jws use to try to show that elders are appointed by holy spirit?

Spirit Directed... what exactly does that mean?
by Elsewhere inthe wts is always saying that it is "spirit directed".. what exactly does that mean?
does any of the literature ever actually define "spirit directed"?.
in the past the literature said that angels came down and told russel and ruthorford what "truth" was... then when their "truth" started to fail, the wts started using the phrase "spirit directed".. is this just a way of saying "god controls us, but we are not accountable for any errors made"?.

100mph winds
by LittleToe inthat'll teach me to eat beans on toast, yesterday!!!.
the wind is really picking up and the town is clearing as everyone is getting sent home from work.. we're expecting 100mph gusts here, on the west coast of scotland.. i'm gonna go home and get cosy, with a roaring coal fire.
it's just as well our houses are built for severe weather!.

Stay away from the windows!! We had a big "wind storm" here last year...it was louder than any wind I'd ever experienced. I jokingly said 'gee, I hope the windows don't crash in on us.' Found out the next day that many windows had indeed been smashed in by the wind. It was very unusual for us...last storm like that was about a hundred years ago. Be safe LT!

RE: SASSY'S PLEA FOR HELP WITH TSUNAMI DISASTER
by azaria inconvince me that i'm wrong.
i am extremely disappointed with the response.
but the same thing happened during the crisis in the caribbean (haiti etc) a few months back.

Just jumping in to say that I know you're upset Azaria. This is a horrible, horrible tragedy. As others have already stated, we don't need to account for what we may have given/done...not to this board or to anyone. I'm glad that Sirona started the thread about donations. It is a good reminder but it is definitely not the only place to go for that.
Oh, and, a little tidbit regarding tax payers' donations - to quote the following article: "The world's richest nations have pledged more than $250 million US in emergency aid -- that includes $68 million from Spain, $35 million from the United States and $30 million from Japan. Britain pledged $29 million. Canada has pledged over $33 million US."

Alan, you quoted Carl Sagan, (anyone can repply)
by one ini am lazy and never read too much about speculative topics such as metaphysics but,
somewhere in this board you make reference about a guy who, imo (not that i know much about him), made a lot of speculations
as carl sagan once remarked, it's remarkable that a religion so transparently dishonest has any adherents at all, but that's a measure of the gullibility of the ultra-religious mind.. .

Thanks for that Runningman...what a great example of WT's blatant dishonesty! I hadn't seen that one before.

Something about me you may not know - I love pigeons. I took these pics at the oldest cathedral in Lima. I was amazed by the number of pigeons...some of them were so fat! However, even more amazing were the black vultures perched on the steeples and all around the church. I asked our guide if the vultures ever did anything about the "pigeon problem". 'Oh yes', he said, 'but they wait until they spot a pigeon who is too fat to fly anymore.' I was glad I didn't witness that.

Thats a great tradition... it has a magical quality about it...like a fairy tail.
Isn't it though? If we ever have kids I want to be sure we have a fireplace or wood stove so we can do the same thing. :)

too cute!
I wish I had childhood Christmas memories...makes the season so much more magical.
I always get a kick out of my boyfriend's story. (Well, his mother is the one who always tells it. har!) I don't know how popular this tradition is elsewhere, but in his family, all the kids would write their letters to Santa and then give them to Mom who would send them off to Santa via the wood stove chimney. She would of course, first discreetly commit the wishes to memory. One year she asked my bf if he had his list for Santa. 'Yup!' he said, 'all done!' And before she could get the list out of his hand, he ran over to the wood stove, popped open the lid, and in went his letter. She had to spend the next two weeks prodding him for information as to what he had written Santa. *hee*
