  I think my cat is a crack addict! :S

  ok, it isn't really crack... but it might as well be!.

  i have to be very careful not to leave any plastic bags anywhere around my apartment or my cat will try to eat it.

  i'm always paying close attention to the plastic bags that i bring home from the store... they all go straight in to a covered trash can so that the cat can't get them.. now, for the last two days he has been puking all over the place and i can't find any plastic that he might have been eating off of... but i am finding the plastic in his puke... so i know thats what is going one.

  Funny...one of my cats loves plastic bags too. He doesn't eat them though and it's only certain types. He loves to lick the crinkly kind. (think Walmart shopping bags) It's bizarre....if I let him he'd sit there and lick for hours. I don't know if it's some sort of chemical he's getting off of them or if he just likes the sound or what. He's a weird little dude, but I loves him!

  i have had a hard time wrapping my head around everything i've learned about the jw's.

  i had no idea.

  i must have been insane to not see the signs when i was with my ex.

  Yikes! I don't envy your situation my dear. I'll take a stab at your questions though...

  Can someone like me just go into the same KH & observe?? Or do I have to be invited? Do they have these meetings in KH's all the time?

  Yes. You can just go to the KH anytime there is a meeting. Most KHs post their meeting schedule on the building. (At least they used to, but I haven't been to one in a while!) There are usually meetings at least three times a week. Be prepared to be asked, ever-so-politely, what it is you are doing there. Once they find out you are "interested" (in any way), be prepared for the love bombing to begin.

  a book that he had our son studying (Ok..he's only 4...whatever) Where can I get this book??

  hmmm....I don't know if there are more recent books for children that young since I was in. The one I know of is "My Book of Bible Stories". You could probably find it on Ebay...less hassle than trying to find a jw to bring you one!

  Is it part of their "rules" he not be alone with me or her insecurities that won't allow it?

  It's definitely a No-No for a jw to be alone with a member of the opposite sex to whom they are not married. (Although it does sound as though her insecurity is a contributing factor.)

  About these conventions, can I just go or do I have to be with a JW??

  Absolutely you can go on your own, just like the meetings. They tend to be a bit more security conscious at these things though, so be prepared for more ever-so-polite questions as to why you are there.

  Fantastic! As you should. The more you know the better prepared you will be to deal with the consequences of what he's being forcefed.

  My Mother Wants To Talk About My Spiritual Weakness....

  ... i know she's dropping by my house later on this evening.

  i just don't want to be in any way disrespectful or cause her any pain by my comments.. any suggestions as to how i should handle this 'being put on the spot like this' situation?.

  hmmm...well...I know what worked for my mom. She started doing a lot of reading on codependancy and issues of controlling other people. She saw herself in what she read and set about changing her behaviour. It sort of goes against the grain of the jw 'convert, convert, convert' mission, but it works for her and I'm grateful! Then again, my mom has always managed to be able to think for herself, even if just a little.

  Additionally, we have had a few discussions about my beliefs, (or rather lack thereof), and I've asked her some questions that have made her visibly upset as she has no answers for them. So now, when she does feel the urge to get at all preachy, I just tell her that I really don't want to discuss religious issues, as it just upsets her. :)

  what is the wierdest or worst thing you were ever asked to do while going to the hall?.

  here's my answer.. i had my son via c-section while the co was visiting.

  Good gawd! It never ceases to amaze me how completely braindead some elders are. The nerve! (I can just picture the look on their wives' faces had they suggested the same to them in that situation....would like to be a fly on the wall during that confrontation. har!) Good for you to stand up for yourself like that. The sad thing is that so many jw women would have just said 'yes, your lordship...right away' and killed themselves to do as they were told. *grrrr*

  Spirit Directed... what exactly does that mean?

  the wts is always saying that it is "spirit directed".. what exactly does that mean?

  does any of the literature ever actually define "spirit directed"?.

  in the past the literature said that angels came down and told russel and ruthorford what "truth" was... then when their "truth" started to fail, the wts started using the phrase "spirit directed".. is this just a way of saying "god controls us, but we are not accountable for any errors made"?.

  FairMind - your comments remind me of what my mom once said after she had had a bad encounter with a couple of elders. Her take on it was something like 'only the elders who display the fruits of the Spirit have been appointed by the Spirit.' Which, of course, was her way of trying to make it all still "fit". Cognitive dissonance anyone?

  I would have had a few pointed questions for her if I'd been prepared at the time, like, 'Who appointed the ones who don't display the fruits of the Spirit? How'd they slip in?' or 'So, does that mean you're able to disregard the ones not displaying the "fruits"?' or 'Do they have to display the "fruits" perfectly to have been appointed? How many slip-ups are they allowed before they are no longer "appointed"?' Stuff like that. :)

  *sigh* Hindsight's always 20/20.

  100mph winds

  that'll teach me to eat beans on toast, yesterday!!!.

  the wind is really picking up and the town is clearing as everyone is getting sent home from work.. we're expecting 100mph gusts here, on the west coast of scotland.. i'm gonna go home and get cosy, with a roaring coal fire.

  it's just as well our houses are built for severe weather!.

  Stay away from the windows!! We had a big "wind storm" here last year...it was louder than any wind I'd ever experienced. I jokingly said 'gee, I hope the windows don't crash in on us.' Found out the next day that many windows had indeed been smashed in by the wind. It was very unusual for us...last storm like that was about a hundred years ago. Be safe LT!
