yep...glad to be finished for a little while. Didn't I read something awhile ago about you going back to school for your Bsc? You go, gurrrl! As far as getting the book club together - you just have to set a time...people will either work around it or they will have to miss it occasionally. There's never a perfect night for everyone. My club is very much 'fun' first...we go to a specific, artsy restaurant (not-to-be-named-here-although-if-you-live-in-Halifax-and-have-a-clue-at-all-you-know-exactly-where-I'm-talking-about), and drink wine, (or whatever your preference is!), eat dinner, and discuss the book. I write up a multiple-choice, somewhat humourous, (at least I find it funny...har!) quiz to start the ball rolling and it goes from there. That's my "secret". :) Seems to work!

yeah...Kwin was great at getting folks together. I'm a bit more of an introvert than he is, as my post history can attest to. Over 5 years and only 367 posts. har! PM'ing you.

'k. I'll play. I have a monthly book club meeting where we all bring suggestions as to what to read for the next month and then vote on the suggestions. I brought this book up as a suggestion a few months ago and finally last month some others decided it sounded interesting. It's called A Complicated Kindness and it's by a Canadian author, Miriam Toews. I have only begun reading it, but it's great...in spots hilarious, tragic, and oh-so-relatable for xjws. (In the congregation where I grew up, one of the elders had actually converted to jw-ism from Mennonitism...he was the hardliner you would imagine.) Some selected quotes: "We're Mennonites. As far as I know, we are the most embarrassing sub-sect of people to belong to if you're a teenager. Five hundred years ago in Europe a man called Menno Simons set off to do his own peculiar religious thing...Imagine the least well-adjusted kid in your school starting a breakaway clique of people whose manifesto includes a ban on the media, dancing, smoking, temperate climates, movies, drinking, rock 'n' roll, having sex for fun, swimming, makeup, jewellery, playing pool, going to cities or staying up past nine o'clock. That was Menno all over. Thanks a lot, Menno." "When we were little, Tash and I would sit in the darkened dining room of my grandmother's farmhouse, listening to the funeral announcements. They came on after supper, on the local radio station we were allowed to listen to because the elders knew that it was better for little children to listen to the names of dead people being read out in a terrifying monotone than the Beatles singing All We Need is Love." "...Golf was another one [of the games we were allowed to play] because it consisted of using a rod to hit something much, much smaller than yourself and a lot of men in this town enjoyed that sort of thing."

Skin care for the maturing lady (fluff)
by Crumpet ini have been using the same facial moisturiser loyally for the last 17 years - but i'm thinking what was great for me at 14 might not be so effective at 31. what most irks me when i look in the mirror (neck up early - we simply don't have long enough for what irks me below the neck) is that my pores seem really big and the overall effect is to make me look tired as the security guard at work pointed out when i left work last night!.
my question is to you ladies (and cosmetically aware gents) is what is your skin care regime and do i have to switch to a really expensive brand sponsored by nazi sympathisers and advertised by supermodels to spruce up my skin?
what do you swear by?.

I'd be very surprised to learn that dermatologists are against mechanical exfoliation. (I'll be sure to ask mine next time I go though.) Of course - I'm not advocating scrubbing the hell out of your face...a GENTLE scrub that doesn't have sharp edges to the granules is fine however. I think most dermatologists would agree that mechanical exfoliation is still needed even with the use of alpha-hydroxys. Then again, my job title isn't "dermatologist".

har! probably not, since it should be loaded with lovely dead skin cells. btw...I didn't give you the proper instructions, as I was only half-awake when I wrote them. You don't mix the sugar with water. You wet your face, then massage in the sugar. Mixing with water first will just make it dissolve too quickly. Doh! I should never give out advice before my morning coffee!

to add to the above - exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!! so important. You can do this cheaply at home using ordinary table sugar mixed with water. Massage into face in a circular motion for about 2 minutes, three times a week. Rinse well! And...can't believe noone has mentioned this yet, but always, always wear sunscreen!! Even on cloudy days. You need the kind that protects you from UVA and UVB rays. (UVA causes sunburn. UVB causes the dreaded wrinkle!)
