  just wanted to drop in and share the good news that i have been accepted to "the big city university" this fall.

  sorry i haven't been around much lately, this is a busy semester as i'm just getting on with a really exciting life.. wow, has my life changed as i look back over the years!

  and jwd/jwn has been an important part of the positive direction that my life is now headed.. my previous thread and history are in the private section for members.

  Hello Wasblind - you're so right about jw kids being afraid to 'open up' to their parents. Any wrong doing will be reported to the "leaders" and this fear interfears with the natural family communication. To confess to this bunch is like slitting your own throat lol!

  though i no longer believe the fds is indeed appointed by god, i guess because of what has been taught to me all these years through the wtbts, i still make an effort to try and look at both sides.

  and then i come across this number below, which is how i arrived at my title for this thread.

  Moving 1000 miles in 28 days need suggestions

  as many know my wife and i will be moving and starting a new business this summer.

  in many ways it will bring freedom to us for no one knows us where we are moving.

  being a born-in i would like to ask all of you what are some great ways we can meet new people and make friendships outside the jw cult?

  I understand your trepidation Doc.

  I've seen your quandry from both sides of the fence.

  I had no religious upbringing at all. Abandoned at a very young age, I lived on my own worked hard and supported myself. I had respect for myself, morally and ethically. Never smoked & hated booze! Could have done any darn thing at all, but didn't. Go figure!

  Now, I agree with you, youths do seem to have a degree of restraint because of watchtower commands teachings, but the almost sole factor in staying within these teachings is .... FEAR.

  Fear of dying at armageddon, fear expulsion & shunning, being abandoned by family and by every one of their friends, deep shame, fear of what the parents will do to them, fear of having their name called out at the kingdom hall, fear/shame of sitting at the back of the hall for at least a year ...if they don't, they won't be forgiven, fear of losing their home & job and fear that god won't hear their prayers anymore.

  See a difference ... it is almost ..............blackmail!

  But you're right jw's are disuaded from sin ......... for as long as it lasts.

  Bottom line you must make your own decisions. Looks like you need more information to do that. Keep looking.

  one of his chapters is entitled: "effect of anonymity on the mind.".

  So Prodigal, here I am in the wee small hours of the morning, reading this thread again. Absorbing more this time.

  Many weeks ago, I asked a question and a huge amount of information has come to my attention!! I keep turning it over and looking at it from every angle. Amazing! How could I not have seen this before!

  Like a good book, I can't put it down till it's finished.

  Like Pandora's Box. It has been opened, but instead of evil flying out of it .... a flash of light shines out from it ... and I can't stuff it back in, it's flown everywhere now.
