started a firestorm on facebook

last friday i posted something supportive of gays on facebook - it was as follows: put this on your status if you know or love someone who is gay.

my wish is that people will understand that being gay is not a disease nor a choice- people who are gay are not looking for a cure but acceptance and equal rights... 93% won't copy and paste this.

will you make it your ...status for at least one hour?

I too got to thinking that it was possible that gays had extra hormones. I did once read that lesbians had a tendancy to have high testosterone levels so I know that your assessment of the situation is quite plausible....

Of course when I was JW I was totally anti-gay, now I really dont give a stuff. The animal world seems to be all love up to the opposite sex & it doesnt stop them from reproducing and playing the field, so I now think let them be.... Who am I to cast judgement...

At what point did you realize JW's were a Cult?

most of us x-jw's at one point no doubt defended the jw's when called a cult.

althought being out since 95', when i first came here it took awhile before i could use the cult word to describe the jw religion.

finding out about the pedophile scandal was disgusting, but it was probably finding out here about the wts history and terrible personal experiences of some on this board that made me finally admit that the jw's were a cult.

I finally realised they were a cult when there definition of a Cult didnt match the actual dictionary definition of the term. This made me realise how controlling they were & that no matter what you did they still made it there business to know about it....

Blimey Dan, she really is pouting now. All because you are exercising your right to live your life as you please. Whats wrong with the woman? Anyone would think that you were a verbal wife beating nutter but clearly you are not and she still wants to escape just because you not longer want to listen to the tripe....

Dont know much of your situation but if you havent said anything to discredit the so called truth as yet I would just play things down and just try slowly to slip under the radar....

or

Simply tell your wife you cant stand the hippocracy of everything, (which includes her drunkeness - lol) so your taking your leave from JWdom so as to live your life as you see fit because clearly all the other JW's do this too. Leave a copy of the book Crisis of consicence lying around and just keep being loving...

Either way I wouldnt give her any ammunition to discredit you as a person in any other way...

What Did You Expect to Do During the 1,000 Years?

for those who were jws, what did you expect to do during the 1,000 year reign?.

since only loyal jws would survive armageddon, it seemed to me that field service and tms would be eliminated.. so what did you expect to do with your time, besides getting rid of the dead bodies and petting lions?.

I just thought that it would take us a 1000 years to get the whole earth cleaned up. We would become the greatest landscaped gardeners having got rid of all the concrete from thousands of miles of motorways... (where we were going to put it I really dont know) and of course each day we would grow physically younger day by day...

We would have been building our own houses (apparently as many as we wanted) and have swam in the lakes as often as we wanted.

Crazy really, but having no TVs, telephones, motor vehicles & musical pop groups would have been just as bad as the churches alternative of sitting around on a puff cloud in heaven playing your harp all day long...

back in the early 80's right after i was married the main driving point i kept hearing at the meetings was "do more,,, pioneer ".. well being the young impressionable jw couple that we were, .

my wife is a speech therapist, so working pt was no problem, but i ended up working construction, cleaning carpets, and shoveling snow at all hours with the brothers, and i worked like a d*** fool at all hours.. funny how there was so much support for me to work with the witnesses, but once the decision was made work could be very iffy at times.. and the main thing that just causes me to cringe now is how so many of the witnesses in charge of the congregation thought that we did not need insurance, my wife had a policy with her school district, but my son and i did not.

granted medical expenses were not as bad then, but just the idea of thinking that we did not need it that god would watch over us just embarasses me to no end now.

Im also embarrassed that I mentally tortured myself for over 10 years because me & my then JW boyfriend had fornicated (now my husband hairyhegoat!). It took me 3 years of total mental anquish to decide to go to the Elders to confess, all because the June 15th WT of 1991 told us to do so.

Even though we were silently reproved I hated myself soo much that I was totally and utterly disfunctional. I felt that I had sinned against the holy spirit and that there was no forgiveness of sins left... Im now so embarrassed that I was so badly damaged by daily guilt and for so many years.... I never thought I would get over this but in just one year I have never felt so emotionally free of all the claptrap...

How can one crappy religion have so much hold on peoples emotional state... Its totally embarrassing...

I shudder, I cringe & can feel my cheeks flush at the things I did for JWdom.

I remember a time when I was a PA for a managing director, I was asked to buy cigarettes for someone and I arranged for somebody else to buy the cigarettes instead. Cutting a long story short (and yes it was over the top for them) I was taken into an office and was given a verbal warning because I dug my heels in because it went against my christian witness belief to have anything to do with cigarettes...

I lost out on promotions because taking them meant I would have to work longer hours on the meeting nights

I would argue with everybody and would be so obnoxious when they would criticise my thinking. My thinking was logic, theres was pure satanic & I made them know I thought that.....

I was a complete & utter retard....

I have only 2 good friends (of the world) that I can rely on. This is pretty remarkable considering how obnoxious and self righteous I was....

How I Really Feel Embarrassed for myself now - Oh how the mighty have fallen. Beware he that is standing that he dont fall. Well I fell & I fell from a great height, that I did. Thank god knows who that I woke up to the BS - by some random miracle.....

I now feel truly blessed.....

Email I sent to mom after huge fight today

well my mom and i got into a pretty bad argument today over the phone.

it basically came down to the fact that she couldn't handle what i was saying about the organization, etc and all she could come back to me was that i "hated her?

" i guess i just wanted to share and vent a little too....thanks for letting me do so.. .
