That's a long, roundabout way to acknowledge that they expect the branch to obey the governing body. -

Just admitted that doctrinal decisions CAN be made by majority vote. I don't think that's ever been admitted publicly before. -

Won't get fooled again ...Moon Landing.
by The Rebel inso i was fooled by the witnesses.
what can i learn from that?
not to accept things at face value but to seek out opinion and different view points.. hence my question " do you believe man landed on the moon?.

I have to say, the insane asylum of the ex-JW world rarely disappoints. I guess this is what happens when an entire group of people are stripped of all critical thinking skills. -

She spoke about Jehovah’s Witness abuse, and her home was vandalized

Yeah, this sounds fake. No witness I ever knew would ever write something like that. For one, they don't refer to the organization as "Watchtower". They would put "The Society" or "Jehovah". Also, this is far too bold for an active witness. Witness are trained to be extremely passive-aggressive. -

How often does this happen? Standing room only at a K.H.? I remember this in the early 1970s locally, but when I stopped attending meetings in 2006 the K.H. was 2/3 empty for mid-week meetings and about 1/2 empty on Sunday; I doubt there has been a boom in meeting attendance since.
I was in a congregation in the 90s that had a hall which seated at least 140, and every sunday the main auditorium and the library were full, and we were having to put out rows of folding chairs behind the regular seats in the auditorium. They were split shortly afterwards.
But you're correct, I haven't seen attendance like that at a hall ever since.

I never understood why the Society, about 15-20 or so years ago in the US, started insisting on packing, shipping and setting up their own sound equipment in arenas and other venues with perfectly good sound systems that they could easily tie into. Seemed like a huge waste of money and time for no determinable benefit. -

Worst Memorial Talk Ever!
by The Searcher ini honestly have never heard such claptrap being delivered in a memorial talk.. the speaker repeatedly put down the way other religions administered the bread & wine, and claimed that witnesses do it exactly as the bible describes.
oh yeah????.
he forgot to mention - when reading aloud 1 corinthians 11:25 - that after passing the bread, a full meal was to be shared, before the wine was passed around!

THANK YOU. First time going with awareness and saw and heard them say Judas NOT there ....only 11. I knew he was for bread and meal and confirmed tonight that he was ALSO there for wine. Made huge impact on hubby too. He finally started COC this week.
It's amazing, isn't it? The speaker (and thus, I'm assuming the outline) makes a big point this year about how Judas was dismissed BEFORE Jesus established the New Covenant, and this proves that it only applied to select people, not everyone. He has everyone turn to and read Matthew and John to "prove" it. Except Matthew doesn't have Jesus dismissing Judas at all, just goes from saying that one of 12 at the table would betray him straight to the bread and wine. John has Jesus dismissing Judas, but he doesn't include the New Covenant at all. And they conveniently don't read Luke, where Judas is explicitly shown as still being present after the wine and bread are passed. Mark just copies Matthew, for the most part.
I look around, and everyone just sits there and nods. The Society blatantly misrepresents the scriptures right in front of everyone, and all you have to do is read the surrounding verses in the very passages the speaker is reading to prove it. And still no one sees it.
It's so ballsy, and yet so effective, that it's a wonder to behold.

There's nothing quite so fascinating to watch as someone's pattern-recognition part of the brain malfunction and go into overdrive.

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

As terrible as Catwoman was, it's miles better than any of the tripe that's come out of Rand's gourd. -

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.
