  that will blow your mind..... #1 the united states has lost approximately 42,400 factories since.

  Yes - changes are coming. And they have come. I think the pace of change wil acellerate. But I don't believe this means some doomsday scenario.

  Manufacturing jobs are (and have been) moved overseas. But this has also resulted in cheaper prices for us.

  Things will be different. In jobs which can be easily outsourced wages in the U. S. will be under pressure. Our challenge as a society is to adapt. It is very difficult to try to be like you were 10,20, 30 years ago. It is painful. People are and will be hurt.

  I think this has actually been going on for several decades. The world has changed. The U. S. economy can't isolate itself very easily.

  I believe we can adapt. We may not be the most dominant in the sorld in the future. But again, I don't see doomsday.

  i seem to recall that the jw evidence for this is very thin on the ground.

  they take one phrase about the "bride and bridegroom"never being heard again, and say that shows it must mean christidom.

  but thats one line out of an entire stream of discription that quite frankly could be about anything.

  IMO there is no "Christendom" as the WTBS describes it. There are so many groups believing so many different things.

  I wouldn't take anything the WTBS says as unbiased.

  An argument against atheism: It's hopeless

  i hear this critique against atheism a lot.

  that its simply a hopeless way to live one's life.

  believers give this argument, not passionately, but almost desicively, as if clearly a outlook they don't want for life is a wrong outlook.. is there anything you can do to reason with such ones?

  I have yet to read a post by any believer in any religion that is logical. They appeal to "faith".

  We would all be better off facing the reality.

  I don't know why this is open for debate. It is patently obvious a supreme being doesn't exist.

  Debate on this issue is for the ignorant. It wastes space on the forum.

  Anyone could read posts by Terry (and many others) and see the objectivity of athiest arguments.

  False Christians chose the modern Bible books

  one of the issues that i discovered when i took two years off from the jws to just study the bible is the contents of the modern bible do not even come close to matching the contents of the holy books that the first christians used.

  not even close.

  off by over 550 books.. now, the jws claim that the catholic church is false religion.

  Regarding the Old Testament apocrypha, my understanding is that they were included in the Septuagint (a greek translation of the OT). The translation was done between the 3rd and 2nd century BCE. They weren't part of the Massoretic text and may not have been in previous OT writings.

  Concerning the New Testament, I believe there was a great deal of general agreement well before Constantine. The Muratorian fragment, which could date from about 170 AD, mentions the four gospels, Acts, the Pauline works, Jude, and other works.

  Several church fathers quote extensively from a variety of NT texts.

  I doubt very much that the NT was "chosen by one man" as you say. There was no universal agreement for some time after the first century but by his time the canon was more or less established, IMO.

  there are two parts to this topic you can read one or the other or both if you want, i just figured i post this for differents ones who might being going thru what i am going thru i tried to write this as quick as possible so everything i am posting here is not to offend anyone i know everyone has the own opinions on different things so you can disagree or agree, but this is where i stand.

  I completely agree with others who've said that there are more than two alternatives.

  I am a Christian who has never been one of JW's. I can't fully understand what you're going through. But I can say that the Watchtower has been less than honest when they talk about other Christian groups - what they believe, how they worship and so on.

  Please don't adopt the mindset that your choices are to return to the witnesses or lead a life of drugs, excessive drinking, debauchery & the like. I can tell you that most people don't live lives like that, Christian, non Christian, athiest, or anyone else.

  Take some time before you return. Take the suggestion above: Learn HOW to think. You've been conditioned by the Watchtower.

  The alternative is not black & white.

  i'd like to hear from anyone who was disfellowshipped but fully intended to go back as soon as possible and how that worked out or didn't.

  i'd like to hear how soon you went back to meetings, how many letters requesting reinstatement you wrote, how you were treated, and how long it took you to get bitter and jaded.... or in the off chance you had a positive experience, what exactly happened.. really struggling here... thanks!.

  so oompa got df'd this week...

  no call to invite me to a committee meeting...no notification of deciding i should be df'd....no telling my jw wife of the announcement...not a chance to appeal what i did not even know what was going on...my mini-serve son is devasted....he even researched it....told me to go to page 153-154 of the od book...never heard of it but it is a green hardback given to all who are to be baptized.

  wow...the elders broke every rule in this book as to my case.... i have no respect for these men that can take away your jw family without even telling you they are going to.

  my jw son has now begged me to meet with my committee...even though there is prob zero chance they can reverse the decision...that chance is from when they let you know...and you have to appeal by letter within 7 days (i cant make this stuff up!!

  Are you a fader, Df'd, DA'd, or Still In?

  i thought this would be an interesting poll that would show everyone the backgrounds of all of us when we left, if we have.. for myself, i am not df'd, but i am attempting a fade.

  i still go to some meetings with the wife to help with kids, but that's it.

  no commenting or field service.. what about everyone else?.
