Took us three meetings and lot of bluster from one of the elders making the decision. For this guy, the reasons were essentially that the congregation did not 'respect' him anymore. In truth, he was domineering, dogmatic demagogue who made life a pain in the ass for everybody.
He did not take the removal well as it did take three meetings to oust him. Everyone in the congregation was elated. He and his family soon left for other greener pastures.
don't know if this bit of pop culture made it's way around jw.net yet, but dave mustaine of megadeth has been in the news.
mustaine was brought up as a witness, but seems to have left pretty young.
he's now a born-again christian, and has made all kinds of off-color comments throughout the years about everything from mexican immigrants to homosexuality.

I think he meant to say "...to smarten us up."
In the final analysis, what interpretations are extracted are the key. And who agrees on that??
Perhaps everbody's methodology of exegesis isn't up to snuff.

despite being an open atheist amongst lots of religious people in my life, i have never been accused of doing this and i have never heard this saying attributed to my choice... appart from here.. i thought it would be best to clarify why i (and i assume others) decided to leave the bible behind after leaving the wt society.. realising the wt society was wrong desroyed my world, for me it meant so much.
i had given so much to it too, it just had to be true!

I suppose I need to chime in as well to debunk the myth that I limped like a perturbed sheep caught in a leg trap from one hellhole to another - according to a poster and probably a fair percentage of Christians.

Agreed. To attach a single explanation towards human behaviour is simple-minded at best. Metatron: it's that it tends to move them towards nothing at all.
Actually, it is usually theists that devalue their current life as they long for their ‘eternal reward’. I on the other hand lead a rich life full of purpose and meaning. That theists claim that an atheists life is meaningless is to say they have never met an atheist and are only basing their assertions on stereotypes and misinformation from religious circles.

All it did was to confirm and clarify that this organizations was completely and utterly managed by people and not by any divine entity or 'electrical force" - holy spirit. I did enjoy the book for the most part. I've since recommended it to a few people so they can have the alternative view of the governing body.
