Yup, I think this is true. I once said to someone going on and on about something sex related "this is not about vagina's and penises, so let's stop talking about that and cut to the matter at hand."

JW's are more obsessed with sex than most people
by jambon1 inalways found this bizarre.. they have printed boundless amounts of information about this matter.
they discuss sex and it's details in front of infants & young children (surely a criminal offense, no?
), they gossip about who has been doing it with who when someone has fallen into the trap of the 'sins of the flesh.'.

Are they really that bad???
by anonymous4 inhad a good look into the doctrine, beliefs and practices of jws and to be honest, i don't really see anything wrong with it at all.. it's biblical and i've had such an eye opener the past year or so reading some of their books and magazines .
is there really any real reasons why i shouldn't want to get involved further?
:-).

I didnt read all of the comments, so sorry if I am repeating.
OP, would you feel comfortable cutting off ALL association, casual or familial if one of your friends or family decided not to be a JW anymore? That is just one reason...the shunning. That is evil.
You can kiss your privacy goodbye, kiss your freedom goodbye, and let a publishing company dictate what you believe.

I listened to the meeting over the phone with my grandmother. This religion is nuts!!
by miseryloveselders inmy grandmother has been a little ill, and had to be put in a facility temporarily.
she should be getting out sometime next week.
i'm not particularly close with her, and that probably has a lot to do with my father.

That is too bad, really sad. Sad that he wasnt able to get what he rightfully deserved for healthcare in the first place.

The Thrills Of Life (Before vs After being a JW)
by TastingFreedom inlife most of the time seems fairly monotonous, tedious, repetitive.
sometimes you feel uncertainty, not knowing what is going to happen.
other times, you know exactly what is going to happen and you feel peace of mind.

With risk of sounding super corny, that LeAnn Womack song, "I hope you dance." That is what sums up life outside of JW's. You can dance. You can do it all if you want. The control is gone, and freedom to be your own person without constraints is there. It does take time. But it is well worth it.

Pre Armageddon Preparation.
by Clam inare there jws who prepare for the tribulations they assume are around the corner?
when i visted the us once in 1999 i met a few guys who were expecting a global meltdown due to the millenium bug.. as a consequence they had generators, guns, ammo, tins of food, bottled water, fuel, all kinds of stuff to help them through a civil disorder situation.
does anyone know or remember any jws who have prepared like this?

My ex was friends with a guy who stockpiled canned goods. My H tried to get me to do it too, and the thought of carrying all of those can's in our cellar wasn't too appealing to me, so I laughed at him and said, wouldn't Jehovah provide anyway? lol

What Don't You Like About Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inyup, this is a negative thread.. there are a lot of things but i'll start with one.. jws believe god will destroy 99.9% of the world simply because they aren't witnesses.
this view produces the "i am better than you" attitude because they get to live forever and you will die forever.
(not a nice religion)..

The judgmental nature of most is a huge turn off to me. The extreme gossip. The blatent label of Truth, where most JW's might deep down know there are at least a few whackadoo teachings if not a whole bunch.

What's the saddest movie you've ever seen?
by JimmyPage ini'm asking because i just watched "the road".
it may not be the saddest but it's up there.
"my sister's keeper" was a real tearjerker too..

A good sad....was "The Notebook."
Inglorious Bastards made me sad too. The hatred made me sad.
I don't see many sad movies.
