Do you really think that boys that age are going to take to the religion? I would highly doubt it. Can you try and let them know about the disfellowshipping and shunning policy? That alone strikes non-JW's with alot of shock and disgust.

Brotherdan's New Blog
by brotherdan inalthough i know it is not the place to advertise, i just wanted to inform you guys that i am starting a new blog.
i will be updating it at least weekly.
it will be an analysis of older wt publications.. as you'll see in my first post, my intention isn't to "bash" the watchtower, but only to give a critical eye to what was said (good and bad) and how it contributed to the jw culture that we see today.. if anyone is interested, check it out.

Dan when I first started realizing everything, I also started a blog. I wrote in it alot, never shared it though. It was very theraputic to put words to paper so to speak. I never needed to share it after I typed it out. I hope you can chronicle your journey and it helps you through this tough time.

Do you feel sorry for the family members who shun you?
by SweetBabyCheezits inas each instance of shunning happens to me, it seems even more ridiculous than the last.. this weekend i took our kids to the park - wife opted out, understandably - and we let our daughter call my parents to inform them we'd be there.
this was my first time in the presence of my parents since our df announcement two weeks ago.. my mom and dad were 10-20 feet away much of the time and yet they never said a greeting or.. well anything.
at one point my daughter, who is aware of the shunning, mistakenly thought my mom called my name and shouted excitedly, "mawmaw, were you talking to daddy??

Yes and no. My sister is a victim. She is not strong enough to think for herself. My mom is a victim too, but she stabbed me in the back big time with regards to my divorce, so I do not feel sorry for her. I am sure she is more angry than sad or missing me. Its all about control with those people.

Making the final break - stopping attending the Memorial
by Eiben Scrood ini started my fade in 2004 and completely quit regular attendance in 2005. i have, however, gone to all the memorials since.
i still consider myself christian and felt it was a somewhat decent way of respecting the sacrifice.. i am thinking of not going this year.. i am generally disgusted at what the memorial observation actually entails.
there is almost no talk about what jesus went through on that day or even the tremendous sacrifice involved and the love that motivated it.

I didnt want to be a hypocrite and just go to a memorial. Let's say the religion is the right one (yes, just bear with me), what would be the point to just go to one meeting a year, that isnt whole souled service that almighty god requires to get into the paradise earth and bask with lion cubs. You have to go to all of the meetings, not just the memorial. So don't be so hard on yourself and stop the guilt and let it go....it wasnt joyous, so god wouldnt want you to do something you didnt want to do. He probably only wants to be served if people want to serve him.

Pro's of DF/DA: Total openess on my stance on the WTBS, No more tip toeing around things with my ex, I would be able to finally contact my old friends and tell them what happened so there was not rampant rumors.
Cons: It is their rules, I don't like that, my ex will get some satisfaction out of saying that I am DF/DA, My kids will have some form of shame and pity put on them when their dad takes them to the hall, and my family in the borg will have the stigma of a df'd child.
All and all, It will probably be freeing, but at this time it would be easier to let them bugger off for a while. I am busy and have more important things to do!
How many times do they try and call you before they start stopping by? I am way out of their territory and someone would have to drive specifically in my neighborhood to try and snag me.

I WAS CAUGHT emailing a pdf copy of the New Elders Book
by Smoky ini sent a .pdf to a few friends and one of them betrayed me and forward it to a elder i know, along with the emails of the recipients.
i cant believe i was so naive to think that i can trust someone..stupid.
i have not talked to the "benedict arnold" yet, but hopefully soon.

I would just say that I was curious and thought it was interesting and that certainly there was nothing out of line in the manual and maybe it was a lapse in judgment, but the book didnt say that if a publisher got ahold of it, that if he passed it out that there would be judicial action, and there are no scriptural principles against emailing out the elder manual.

Well it's kind of funny because this elder is ubber liberal. He and his wife like their liquor, they themselves have been counseled many times on their conduct. I know alot of their dirty little secrets. He used to say things about how hot he thought I was and that he would do me if he could. Yes, I am not kidding you and not trying to act like I am hotstuff or anything. I had told my husband at the time and he was even uncomfortable about it. I am sure he was sent after me because they feel that I am more inclined to open up to him since we had hung out with them quite a bit. Or maybe because he was my bookstudy conductor. But I am sure my ex went whining to him after the halloween festivities this weekend because you know he grills the kids about what goes on and he wants so bad for me to get "punished."
I will ignore him, but if they ever make more attempts, I think I will do the whole "I am all set at this time, and do not need assistance, thank you, but do not call back. If you make an effort to continue, I will have my attorney be contacting the police, and the elder body to have the contact ceased." Is that good enough? Oh, the funny thing is that it will be hard for them to do drive by's as I live on a dead end.
I guess I will wait and see.
