A Modest proposal to solve the 1914 problem
by r51785 inthroughout watchtower history dates have been a problem.
the usual solution for failed prophetic dates has been to kick the can down the road.
this needs to be done with 1914. the generation that will never pass away is now 110 years old and therefore is past its useful life span.

Scholar,
No need to reinvent the wheel.
Please read The Gentile Times Reconsidered by Carl Olaf Jonsson, which disproves the 607 date in many different ways.
Also, check out jwfacts dot com.
Lots of evidence there.

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, who thought the standards for restoration were far too lax?
The elder brother.
In fact, who probably wouldn't have allowed restoration at all, even with a great deal of groveling, which he would have considered insincere?
The elder brother.
Whom does Jesus want to be like? The father or the elder brother?
Hmmmmm....

Essential Beliefs
by LeeMerk inif the watchtower really wants to move more mainstream they need to take a lesson from evangelicals in the united states.
they seem to say there are "essential beliefs".
a handful of core beliefs that are necessary to be considered true christians.

Their one unassailable doctrine is that whatever the GB teaches is the truth.

Did God know adam and eve would sin?
by gavindlt into all those on this forum, i would love to know what your take on this vital question is..

If God didn't know that, by the same reasoning he wouldn't know ahead of time any of the evil that would happen.
That would eliminate a lot of the prophecies in the Bible and would leave a God who knew very little about human beings.

JWs And Superstitions
by NotFormer inprompted by a mention in a different thread.. cracks in the sidewalk, a pinch of salt over the shoulder, black cats🐈⬛; do jws have such superstitious beliefs.
are they allowed to?
would they be counselled if the elders became aware?.

A lot of JWs seem to say "Jehovah" in every sentence of their prayers as if Satan is going to get them if they skip it once.

Sometimes think the GB and WT writers don't bother to check what the WT has said before, probably because they know the vast majority of JWs will simply believe the latest "light" and forget they ever said anything different. -

Join JW's or DIE - soon!!!
by BoogerMan inw72 10/1 p. 607 - "they (jw's) know that soon now all who are not true worshipers of jehovah (jw's) will be destroyed.".
how quickly half a century passes by!
2 peter 3:8 - "...one day is with jehovah jw.borg as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.

In 1972, "soon now" meant 1975.

It's hard to get JWs to answer Bible questions at all these days.
All they do is shrug and refer you to the website.

Maybe a prerequisite for being elected to the GB is that you have to keep a straight face when you say you understand and believe the overlapping generations teaching.
