It seems that a lot of people make a common mistake when analizing JW statistics:
You can not compare the number baptized with the publisher figure to determine how many became inactive or fell away. The number for baptisms is already INCLUDED in the publisher figure. For example:
2009 Report
Peak publishers=7,313,173
Total number baptized= 276,233
The ones baptized during the 2009 SY are already counted as publishers. You cannot be baptized until you have been a regular publisher already reporting your FS. About 25% of all publishers may not be baptized but they turn in FS reports and are counted in the Peak Publishers and Average publishers figures.
So the baptism figure for each year simply means of all those publishers reporting during that year this number got baptized during the year (SY).
You cannot add or subtract the baptism figures from the publisher figures because they are already part of the publisher figures.
You can subtract one years peak publishers ( Or average publishers) from that of a previous year to see if there is an increase or a decrease.

What made you start questioning: people or doctrine?
by In inlet us know what got you questioning wbts in the first place.
i've got a theory that it starts with people hurting us and only then does the "apostate" turn to looking at the beliefs.. anybody who started questioning beliefs first?.

People. I saw too many liars and hypocrites and wrongdoing on the part of elders. The people proved they were not God'e organization and do not have his spirit.

Why did we all take the NWT at face value?
by sabastious inwhy didn't we ever care about checking whether or not the nwt was "the most reliable bible on the planet.
" such an audacious claim and it didn't spark much investigations.. (not saying no one did check it, just seems the vast majority never did, at least not for a long time).. so here we all were, with this unverified and propietary bible using it as the word of god to teach about the meaning of life?.

Strange how we all just accepted what we were taught. It was God's organization so everything must be true. And the NWT is the only one with Jehovah's name in all 7,000 places.
How did I ever realize it is not the truth?
I think once you became convinced the WT was God's one channel of communication you just "knew" everything they said was the truth and the NWT was never questioned.. I guess I'm simplifying it a lot but I'm sure most of you also felt the same way, right?

I'm trying to find out the square footage of the Selters printery which is the next largest after Wallkill. Does anyone have any info on this?
And how many books are being produced there each year now? Wallkill produced over 28 million in 2008 and I'm guessing the Germany branch must be producing somewhere near that amount because they produce books for all of Europe except the UK.
Does anyone have information on this? Thanks!!!

Disassociate or no longer actively associate?
by Mickey mouse inis there a difference?
page 111 of the new elder's manual:.
making known a firm decision to be known no longer as one of jehovah's witnesses.. if the individual is agreeable, the committee should first try to speak with him and provide spiritual assistance.

Why do you have to make a statement if you do not want to D/A yourself? I just stopped going altogether, did'nt say anything. it's been 5 years now. I just don't do anything with the witnesses at all.

No one is going to Heaven (and my introduction to the forum)
by sobrino1 ini'm new to the forum, though i had been a lurker for quite some time now.
i studied w/ the witnesses for a number of years, to be specific, for 10 years (since i was a child) but never actually became one; though, i was counted as one in the yearbooks as a "publisher.
" so, as far as i got was as an unbaptized publisher.

The Bible clearly teaches only a select group get resurrected to Heaven and it is to rule with Christ for the Thousand years. The Earth is the permanent home of mankind.
But for those who believe you are going to heaven:
How will you get there?
What will you do there?
Heaven is the realm of spirit creatures only.
Are there any scriptures that show what you would do in Heaven?
It would be nice to be able to be sure that there is a wonderful afterlife and not just eternal death. Sadly I no longer believe I will get a resurrection.

would not the fact that the society has downsized and cut back on magazine production and keeps changing over hardcover books to softcover or just puts out softcover books to save money mean that donations are down signifigantly?
