developers are lusting after a jehovahs witnesses parcel in dumbo that is, for the moment, not for sale despite the best efforts of would-be buyers to pry 85 jay street out of the witnesses hands for as much as $400 per buildable square foot, or potentially $352 million.. the prime locale, bordered by york, jay, front and bridge streets and occupying a full block, is zoned for 880,000 buildable square feet all of which can be residential, as the real deal previously reported.. this is the last great site in dumbo, one unnamed source told the brooklyn eagle, also noting that building on the spot would be a breeze thanks to ample room for a construction office, cranes and concrete trucks.

construction costs are expected to be less than $400 per square foot, including interest on the construction loan, taxes and broker fees.. for now, the site is a parking lot lined by a metal fence topped with razor wire.. since the recent october sale of our five buildings in dumbo, several qualified real estate developers have expressed interest in purchasing 85 jay street, david semonian, a watchtower spokesman, told the brooklyn eagle via email.

Originally the society was going to build a printing plant here, but the funds ended up subsidizing the new Mexico Branch and printery. Years later a large residential complex was planned, but that too fell through.

When the society's lease on a parcel near the 360 Furman st bldg was not renewed due to the Brooklyn Bridge Park, the society began using 85 Jay St as a parking lot.

the whole article makes me ill with its worse than average mind control.. i was going to only include one quote but there are so many doozies that i will post what i feel to be the worst.. from paragraph 6.

"gods organization survives and flourishes on earth because the people who are part of it have his approval.".

the great tribulation has been "so close" for over 120 years of wt history.

That Jesus Welcomes You sign is bizzare- are they baptists or some other protestants?

What about Jehovah welcomes you?

The religion is really changing and is so different then it was when I began to study in 1976.

the governing body sets the scene in the first article by stating how they are like jesus and as humans they are sinless in god's eyes.. then on page 24 they state this.

The Sept 15 WT " Are You Convinced That You Have The Truth? Why?

this article title leapt out at me and i thought that at last we may see some solid argument as to why the wt teaches what it does, some "reasoning on the scriptures ".. well... the theme scripture set a good scene, being rom 12.2 " prove to yourself the good and acceptable and perfect will of god" .

ok , let's prove it - logically.. the article starts by citing the witnesses neutrality and refusal to bear arms as a reason to believe.

now i happen to agree with that stand , but is it unique to j w's ?
