Do they use Jehovah's name repeatedly because it's their name?

i was thinking when reading another thread where it was mentioned how god's name was never used in the nt, but how often it is uttered in khs that it is used so often, not because we need to use his name, but because it is the name associated with their organization.

it is their name really.

could that be why it's used so often?.

In my experience, JWs are shocked when they meet someone who is familiar with the word. They believe it's "their word" and it's subconsciously their brand-name for God. Since they believe the Watchtower to be His official sponsor, they bear the name "Jehovah" the way a stock car would bear a decal. The Watchtower exerts no effort to hide the fact that they believe they own exclusive rights to God and have often attempted to play puppeteer with Him, demanding dates be "proper" times for God to do things.

I've known people who have used "Jehovah" to ward off perceived evil spirits, yelled it at someone they thought was following them down a dark sidewalk, etc. Ingrain this "magic word" into the minds of the cult members, then brainwash them into seeing bogeymen around every corner. It's the perfect recipe to have JWs embarrassing themselves and bringing reproach on Jehovah's (English) name by having it screamed by paranoid-delusional morons over every bump in the night.

*sigh* i have been noticing lately there are a number of groups of "christians" signing up as members of this forum, with the obvious agenda of gaining converts for their own cult-like religions.

You need to just ignore him. He so obviously sees himself as your superior and teacher, you as a lost soul in need of him to save you. He has a messiah complex of epic proportions. He has a cult mentality, because he just throws stuff out there like you know it and agree, but you're just being belligerent, so he's going to pound you with it until you admit he's right. He's no different than the JWs who tell you "You know it's the truth" when you've already shown them over and over that you know it isn't. He's doesn't care about, and isn't listening to, anything you have to say other than to find fault. There is no dialogue, just his delusion of a pulpit. I stopped talking to him long ago, because he's an arrogant fool, an ideologue, and a deaf broken record. He runs and hides from questions posed to him, sidesteps and stonewalls, gives convoluted non-answers when he's trapped in his ridiculous crap, muddies the waters and frustrates all progress of any attempt at a discussion, and bulldozes dogmatic tirades while ignoring everything that proves him to be wrong. He uses arbitrary lists of scriptures that don't bolster his points at all, just like the JWs who staple Bible verses to their man-made rules as a pathetic attempt to pass them off as "Bible-based counsel".

The Pharisees tried to trap Jesus in his words and that's all he's trying to do with you. He keeps demanding answers to his questions, just like the religious leaders who refused to see their error or their Godless nature. There comes a time when you have to realize you're giving what is holy to dogs and casting pearls before swine. He's looking for an opportunity to trample them under and rip you open. The Pharisees had the Sanhedrin and the Roman army, the Inquisitors had the support of the kings and their forces, the JW elders have our standing in the congregation. falsegodrulz has nothing; no authority, no means of coercion, no credibility. You owe him no response. He's a clashing cymbal, playing out of tune all over this forum. He refuses to believe nobody respects him as an authority, a scholar, or a leader because every response he gets feeds his delusion.

It depends on your area. Local companies offer national coverage, often contracted through whoever has the best coverage in a given area. This way, you're not stuck with the Swiss-cheese coverage of a single company. A quick online search should show you some local 3rd-party providers. Everybody I know on a monthly plan pays about $40 for unlimited minutes and text, with varying amounts of data. If you're not a big chatter, plans with limited minutes (1000 or so) and unlimited text are about $30. And that's it; no additional government/connection/FCC fees or taxes (other than sales tax, in some cases). If you want some help searching, let me know your area and I'll see what I can find.

Anybody (at least in the US) who's still on a plan instead of a pay-as-you-go is a sucker. You get better coverage, more minutes/texts/data for about half the price going with a month-by-month, no-contract option. Plus, you don't have to worry about some crooked company tacking a recurring monthly charge on your bill or some fee from the cell phone company because you inadvertently went over, roamed, or anything else.

i'm still a semi member of the kh but not at all active and have major doubts when i started reading all kinds of opposing literature.

talked to elders about this and also my father but my father but he still believes it's the "truth".

do you ever look back and cringe thinking of things you said or how you acted in the door-to-door ministry?.

Nope. I cringe at what I hear other people say at the door, though. I've always been friendly, respectful when people said they weren't interested, tried to be helpful instead of pushy, kept things focused on the Bible instead of Watchtowers, and actually studied Scripture so I'd have something to offer people instead of shoving someone else's idolatrous crap into their hands.

I never pushed the birthday thing, smoking thing, gambling thing, or even meeting attendance. In a nutshell, I followed Jesus' commission to preach the Kingdom and not the Watchtower's commission to preach the Watchtower. People are much more receptive to that, but JWs won't listen.

Pioneers would bad-mouth me behind my back because I didn't "deserve" to be getting all the studies I had. I didn't "deserve" all the response I got. At first, they were impressed, but quickly changed their tune when they asked my secret. "Preach the Bible," I'd tell them, "not the Watchtower. I'm a Witness and I'm not even interested in the Watchtower, so I doubt they are."

That's when they turned on me. That's when I discovered the elders, the Society, and JWs in general aren't the least bit interested in preaching for God. They only preach for the Watchtower. You have to use their writings and their doctrine; God's are relegated to a lower position or totally ignored. Maybe if I'd been more thoroughly acquainted with JW writings, I'd have seen that coming. But they don't turn the public on to that information. You have to be in before you find out they're idolaters and apostates.

The world is full of Bibles, which Book contains the commandments of God. Why, then, do the people not know which way to go? Because they do not also have the teaching or law of the mother, which is light. Jehovah God has provided his holy written Word for all mankind and it contains all the information that is needed for men in taking a course leading to life. But God has not arranged for that Word to speak independently or to shine forth life-giving truths by itself. His Word says: “Light is sown for the righteous.” (Ps. 97:11) It is through his organization that God provides this light that the proverb says is the teaching or law of the mother. If we are to walk in the light of truth we must recognize not only Jehovah God as our Father but his organization as our mother. ...Today, also, God requires and exacts from his children obedience, honor and respect. These must be rendered not only to the living God himself, but to his wifely organization as well. - w5/1/1957 p274

JWs at my Door

I try to talk to Witnesses. I don't live in my territory, so when they come to my door, I don't let on I'm one of them. I invite them to stay and chat. I get out a KJV and whenever they say something stupid, I look up a scripture and ask how the belief doesn't violate it. They don't come anymore, even though I welcome them back anytime, when they leave. I'm very nice to them and joke around with them. I've been offered Bible studies and accepted, but they never come back.

JWs don't want to talk about the Bible with anyone who cares about the Bible. They want to give a canned presentation and drop off magazines to apathetic church zombies. If everybody who wanted JWs to stop coming refused literature, but invited them to discuss the Bible, they'd get frustrated and go away. The vast majority of Witnesses - even old-timers, pioneers, and elders - don't know anything except how to stuff magazines in the storm doors of empty houses. Invite them to discuss the Bible as long as they want, tell them you don't read church literature because you believe church doctrine is what ruined Christianity.

It's amazing to watch the change. At first, they believe they've found a like-minded person and they're all happy. After about 5 minutes, they realize they can't preach. They realize they aren't Bible scholars and all they are is pack mules for the WTBTS. Take away their magazines and they become dumb dogs, unable to bark.

Their Bible 101 level knowledge is only enough to get them through a presentation, but not enough to actually teach anyone anything. Even if all of JW doctrine was 100% accurate, I've never met a JW who could establish much of it with the Bible. They just "know" it, because they've been told to know it. That's why when you stop attending meetings or get DFed, they say "You know it's the Truth" but if you start asking questions, they lock up and call you an apostate. You show them to be the useful idiots the Society uses them as. They're delivery boys; not ministers.

3 4 is only correct if which shell is in which bucket is taken into account. We'd have to know if any shell in any bucket only counts once or if each combination of shells and buckets is considered unique.

For example: We'll number the shells 1-4 and call the buckets A-C. If 2 is carried in A does that matter or is it just a shell in a bucket? I'm thinking the asker is only interested in conceivable amounts per bucket, in which case it would be 4 and not 3 4 :

4 in one bucket

3 in one bucket and 1 in another

2 in two buckets

2 in one bucket and 1 in two buckets.

Here is a reference to calculate back from the solid date of 539 through the kings of Babylon to the beginning of Nebuchadnezzar's rule, using only Watchtower literature.
