- those who belong to Christ (call them anointed, saints, brothers, whatever) go 'under the altar'... not hades/sheol
Jacob and sons, Job, David and Jesus went to Sheol/Hades (the latter for only 3 days, without seeing corruption). This Revelation 6 scene is a vision, the alter being figurative and not literal. About Revelation 6:9, Clarke says:
I saw under the altar - A symbolical vision was exhibited, in which he saw an altar; and under it the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God - martyred for their attachment to Christianity, are represented as being newly slain as victims to idolatry and superstition.
JFB says:
under the altar — As the blood of sacrificial victims slain on the altar was poured at the bottom of the altar, so the souls of those sacrificed for Christ’s testimony are symbolically represented as under the altar
- none under the altar or in sheol/hades are conscious until their resurrection... "the dead are conscious of nothing"
Agreed, but if we take the scene as literal, the souls under the alter are indeed conscious and calling for vengeance. Figurativly speaking, unjustly spilled blood cries out for just punishment, unlike servants of Christ who literally cry out for forgiveness/grace/mercy for their oppressors.

Baptism in Holy Spirit and in Fire
by Inkie inthis morning my brother asked me a question about the following biblical text.
i indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than i, whose shoes i am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the holy spirit and in fire.matthew 3:11. .
apparently, it seems, the brothers statement came from the societys cd-rom.

I miss music
by White Dove inhas anyone else had music pretty much taken from them?
i'm doing the best i can with my djembe and old familiar songs that i can guess from hearing them, but i really miss the piano and listening to pretty music.
this is kind of a depressing spin-off from the musician thread.. got me to thinking.. oh, and i'm really angry about the false advertizing about cochlear implants.. they say they give a person music.

My wife's parents were both deaf. My father-in-law was actually stone deaf. My wife currently teaches deaf children, some with a little residual hearing, but none with cochlear implants. The sad part for you...is that among other things, you are missing music...and you know exactly what you are missing. My heart goes out to you.

Yes, I believe in hell.
I believe in Sheol/Hades where the good and the bad go. This hell is temporary and will be destroyed along with the horse it rides.
I also believe in "Gehenna"/"lake of fire" which is a symbol for the second death or eternal destruction of the wicked

Undeserved Kindness vs Grace - Watchtower flaw in a NUTSHELL
by sabastious inromans 1:7. new international version.
"to all in rome who are loved by god and called to be saints: .
grace and peace to you from god our father and from the lord jesus christ.".

Right on Bella! Grace not only leads to shouting praise from the housetops, it also leads to repentance and holiness.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world Tit 2:11-12
Grace means that we are covered, from all directions. Had a teacher ask me why I knew I was going to heaven. I told her that Jesus Christ had forgiven every sin I've ever committed. Not only that, but He accepts me as I am totally in my present very imperfect state. Not only that, but all my future sins are coverd by th blood of Christ and nothing can possibly seperate me form the love of God. She told me I had a very positive religion.
But the truth is, that is not my religion...that's the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

<<Have you ever considered that it is not God who talks to you in your head, but another image of yourself?>>
If God cannot communicate with people, then He is irrelevant.
This being Hallowe'en and all....
I remember once when I was taking a speed reading course at university, the Holy Spirit got my attention and said; "Your teacher is a witch". I looked at her. She was rather motherly and attentive...nothing like the witches I had stereotyped in my head. I wanted to ask her about it...but of course that would be ridiculous to ask out-of-the-blue. I happened to be speed-reading an article on voodoo at the time so I raised my hand. I told the teacher what I was reading and asked (quite innocently - NOT) if voodoo had anything to do with WITCHCRAFT....to which she answered that of course it didn't and that she should know because she was in fact a witch. I pointed my finger at her and exclaimed, "I thought you were!" The entire class turned to look at me, mouths hanging open.
She informed the class that she was a "white witch" and then asked me if I thought she was a bad person, being a witch and all. I told her that the Bible says that there is none good, no not one. "But me as a person", she pressed, "you don't think I'm bad do you?" I returned with the fact that the Bible says that the heart is desperately wicked above all things, who can know it?" The questioning stopped right there -thank goodness, because I had just run out of human depravity proof texts. :)
