Is the Russian action in the Crimea prophetic gold for the GB?
by konceptual99 inso chatter on the net and in coffee shops suggests lots of speculation about the re-emergence of russia as the king of the north.
does this political situation give the gb a golden opportunity to simply let speculation about prophecy fly and keep people distracted from the fact that nothing they have prophecied has actually come true?.

lost if you read Revelation chapter 17:16 the opening phase of the attack on the harlot is to 'devastate" and make her 'naked'. This implies stripping her of her wealth (assets, funds) first. An economic crisis that will put the Great Recession of 2007 to shame would motivate previously amiable nations to aggressively liquidate Babylon's assets in a bid to save the world from financial collapse. The current economic woe that pervades the globe could worsen with time and precipitate such an event. As to trade embargos and protectionist economic measures taken by nations - anything is possible. However the 'peace and security' prophecy for me is a beacon of insight. Those words take on a profound, unambiguous meaning in the wake of a global conflict. Financial chaos can breed civil unrest but peace is the absense of and the conclusion of war.

Indeed jgnat you are right to be sceptical.
I would prefer it if 2014 would not be my 1975 but these red flags are popping up and I'm seeing them more clearly now. Like I said the Winter Olympics is just a red flag, there will be others and in time you too will see. China will eclipse the USA possibly early in the next decade as the prominant world power - before that is allowed to happen there will be war. If you right we all carry on regardless, if i'm right...
Bobcat your analysis is thought provoking. Maybe 'peace and security' is an attitude not an event, but in the wake of a global conflict it will likely be both. Lets wait and see if those UN troops surround the Vatican...

I agree war is very unpopular in the West. I believe a reluctance on the part of the West to engage Russia may embolden her in this future conflicta and Russian public opinion is more open minded about war.

Time limit...
If the global war lasts several years it will ravage the global economy. People say war is good for business - yes and no. Private manufacturing (weapons, infrastructure) will benefit but governments that are already trillions of dollars in debt can't afford (but may have to) to spend billions more on a war that could last years. The Deficit is the limiting factor here - where are they going to look after its over.
I see smoke over Babylon...

Some clarification.
As to the questions posed by jgnat I will clarify my position. The USA and most countries on Earth will survive the war intact. Eating, drinking, marrying, buiness, school, Hollywood - it will continue throughout the war and after its resolution. I'm not suggesting that the USA mainland will be attacked - Europe and the Middle East will be the theatres of war (WW1;WW2) and its highly likely we will be watching the drama unfold on CNN. Russia has strategic access to Europe (Remember the war with Georgia?) and the Middle East (Remember their invasion of Afghanistan?). So no doubt we will all be blogging about it in the near future...
PS There was a time when most people in Britain, the continent (Europe) and USA believed the interconnected, mutually beneficial world trade system would disuade nations from war...then came 1914.

''Whenever it is that they are saying: "Peace and security!" then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape''
Daniel chapter 11
40"And in the time of [the] end the king of the south will engage with him in a pushing, and against him the king of the north will storm with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships; and he will certainly enter into the lands and flood over and pass through.41 He will also actually enter into the land of the Decoration, and there will be many [lands] that will be made to stumble. But these are the ones that will escape out of his hand, E′dom and Mo′ab and the main part of the sons of Am′mon.42 And he will keep thrusting out his hand against the lands; and as regards the land of Egypt, she will not prove to be an escapee.43 And he will actually rule over the hidden treasures of the gold and the silver and over all the desirable things of Egypt. An expression found six times in the book of Daniel. It refers to a time period marking the conclusion of a system of things and culminating in its destruction (1914 - ?)
In light of the recent Watchtower November 15 th 2013 edition many of us may remember the days when we tried to make sense of the 'peace and security' prophecy. It just didn't make sense - at least not to me. The nations attaining peace through human means appeared to undermine the purpose of God's kingdom - not to mention given the current state of world affairs this seems highly unlikely...or does it?
Pay Attention To Daniel's Prophecy (1999) outlined the role played by the King of The South and North respectively. I interpret Daniel 11:40 slightly differently to the GB. Verse 40 describes not only the past (World wars and cold war) but the present and the future. Have you watched the news lately? A resurgent Russia is engaging in some diplomatic spats over spies and issues that affect Russian interests. Russia recently mobilised 160 000 troops (nothing like this has been seen since the Soviet era) on her Far east border and she is spending more on her military - she is still the King of the North!
I'm not going to entertain a debate on alternate roles for the King of the North - follow my train of thought here. Based on the above definition of the time of the end it can be said that the ''pushing ''between the Kings of the North and South continues to this day (USA has threatened Russia with political consequences over Snowden scandal among other things). Therefore it stands to reason if the pushing has not stopped then the retaliation that occurred in WW1 and WW2 - ''will storm with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships; and he will certainly enter into the lands and flood over and pass through''- when the King of the North invaded Europe and the middle east is not over. What am I getting at?
Russia will go to war with the West. I'm not the first to suggest this - geopolitical analysts have suggested that the crisis in Syria and the Middle East in general could provoke a global conflict between Russia and the USA. The exact nature of this conflict will be revealed in time but make no mistake it will cause political and social instability not seen since the 1940's. The global economy will suffer and the United Nations may establish a strategic presence (UN troops or armies with UN backing) in Europe and the Middle East. No nuclear annihilation will occur but the UN will have a role in brokering a peace deal. This war will end peacefully - at what cost to human and material infrastructure remains to be seen. This is the ''peace and security'' proclamation.
All the while the wild beast looks at the Harlot (her trillions in assets in the form of property and money); economically things were bad before the war - now they are worse. Liquidation of those assets becomes a possible solution to save the global economy, the world - the only solution. This is how you destroy organised religion - take their temples and their wealth and use it as collateral for the banks that you are indebted to.
May the passage of time prove me wrong - I dare you...

A Different View of "Peace and Security"
by Bobcat insince the wt this week has the prediction of a "peace and security" event, i thought i would include a comment from the new american commentary (nac, d. michael martin, pp.159-60) on 1 thessalonians 5:2, 3.. here is the wt's position, according to this week's wt study (sep 2012 study edition, pp.3 4):.
1 th 5:2, 3 is a "future development.".
it happens "just before that day of jehovah.".
